We went to Amsterdam for a short break and stayed here for two nights. Among InterContinental Hotels, this one is 'a cut above the rest' in terms of quality. We were given an upgrade to a corner suite which helped of course. The hotel itself is steeped in history and you get a sense for how people lived on the...

The Amstel Bar & Brasserie is more informal and cozy than Le Rive restaurant with brasserie-style dishes. It has warmth, rich, wood-paneled walls and blue leather seating and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the river below and the passing parade of sailboats, water taxis, rowboats, and sloops.

I have stayed in dozens of hotels in Europe over the years, and have just discovered the Amstel in the last 2 years or so. I don't know how Anita does it but the hotel is a perfect balance of elegance with a homey touch. While many 5 star hotels - the absolute worst the Savoy in London - are...

This is a wonderful hotel on the Amstel River. Location is great; easy walk to attractions and transportation. The staff are knowlegable, friendly and very helpful. I was upgraded to a King Executive room with a river view. The room was large and well appointed. I would recommend this property to anyone visiting Amsterdam who enjoys five star luxury.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
