The Manor Amsterdam is known as the most magnificent hotel in Amsterdam's east end, located on the Linnaeusstraat. Where the outstanding hotel The Manor once served as a civilian hospital and district office, it currently serves as a full-service urban boutique hotel with lovely and large rooms. What more could you want for than unique conference rooms, a modern hotel bar, and a location in Amsterdam's most lively neighbourhood By tram, bus or bike, you’ll be in the center of the city in 7 minutes: Dam Square and the van Gogh museum, for example, are only 4 kilometers away!

The Manor Amsterdam garners praise for its unique modern decor and inviting ambiance, coupled with spacious, clean rooms that provide a comfortable stay, according to guests. While service at the hotel is often lauded for its friendliness and helpfulness, opinions on value are divided; affordable room upgrades and transport links are appreciated, yet parking fees and costs for basic amenities draw criticism. Although the location is well-regarded for its convenience and proximity to public transport, some guests have pointed out that it's a bit away from the city's heart.

The Manor is ideal for any trips to Amsterdam. We had a superior double room with balcony. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. There is a small area to get snacks and essentials if needed. We didn’t use the restaurant. The hotel is well maintained in the lobby areas etc and the decor in the hallways is unique and quirky (as with the rooms). The room was large with storage, vanity area, coffee machine and tea station. The bathroom is large with hand soap and hair/body gel, there is a hair dryer. The bed was big and very comfortable as were the pillows and duvet. The balcony was nice but be warned if the door shuts behind you, you will be locked out :). The only thing I would say was that the floor needed mopping as it was dusty in places although this is a minor thing as overall the rooms were very clean. There was a mini fridge.
Local taxis (city centre) are very expensive (€40 from central station to the hotel) . Uber was more cost effective if needing a taxi (to the airport was around €35). Tram 14 is a 1 minute walk away taking you straight into the city centre for approximately £1.50 per journey (you can use your bank card to tap in - make sure you also tap out with the same card - the doors have one way entry and exit). On the return journey the tram screen will show Javaplein as the final stop but stay on and a few stops after is the stop for the hotel. Would I recommend this hotel and would I return…an easy yes!

Absolutely brilliant and would stay again. We stayed for four nights and upgraded to a superior room with a balcony - it was so worth it. We had a large room at the back of the building (so experienced no noise whatsoever) with a balcony overlooking a small green space. We spent a lot of time out there and would recommend upgrading.
Room was spacious and clean. Great coffee machine. Fridge was handy and we went to a supermarket 5 mins walk away and stocked it for our stay (including milk as it isn’t provided - but they do give you fresh still and sparkling water every day!). Spacious walk in shower, bathroom itself a bit tight but it was still fine.
Staff were lovely and friendly, stored our bags on arrival and departure, and gave us early AND late check out for no cost.
We did visit the bar one night, and didn’t have a great experience, which is the only reason we didn’t visit that bar again. Seems like they had a private party in the restaurant, staff seemed super stressed and we felt like a bit of a hassle. They didn’t have any Sauvignon Blanc or cocktails. Then the staff disappeared and it took a while to find someone who we could pay. They were obviously too busy so we just went elsewhere - this is literally the only negative I have, and it’s not really related to the hotel.
We travelled by train and metro around Amsterdam and to the city, it was super easy and we just used google maps. It’s one train stop (station about ten mins walk away) or a 15 mins tram ride.
Anyway, great value for dosh and would return - just not to the bar.

I stayed in this hotel with my boyfriend for 5 nights and I absolutely recommend it! The girls at the reception were very kind and always available. Very comfortable beds and pillows, room cleaned every day, water and coffee in the room always available at no additional cost. It is not located in Dam Square but can be reached without any problem in 15 minutes by tram, just as you can reach the museum area. It is also a 5-minute walk from Muiderpoort train station, an excellent solution for visiting the villages near Amsterdam like we did. The area is very quiet, a bit like all of Holland I would add, but it is not isolated.

The hotel entrance and arrival process was quick and the staff are very helpful. However, we felt that there are housekeeping issues that bring the hotel down to a 3 star. There was no shower gel, just 2 bottles of shampoo. We checked the bottles to see if they doubled as shower gel, alas, they didn't, so we asked for some shower gel and got another bottle of shampoo! There was no milk, no flannels in the bathroom, only one water glass, which was not replaced daily, 1 pair of slippers, a broken lamp shade and cheap toilet roll. The room was not dusted the whole time we were there and there was thick dust on the TV stand by our last day. All of which add up to 3 star and not 4 star. The room itself was large as we had upgraded, but was under utilised, there could have been a sofa added and there was lots of unused space. Overall the room looked a bit forgotten about. The breakfast was really good and there was loads to choose from and the staff were lovely and very helpful. Overall we had a good stay and the minor room issues did not impact our time in Amsterdam, we just feel that a little bit of attention is needed by housekeeping on keeping the rooms in a 4 star condition. At the time of staying, April 2024, there was no onsite restaurant and we had to search the area for something to eat. Reception will give you a list of places, but it was difficult to know what these places were like. The hotel is a little remote and its a good 10 to 15 minute tram ride into central Amsterdam. We did know this before we booked as we didn't want to be kept up at night being disturbed by night revellers in Amsterdam.

Let's start with the positives:
Pension: possibility to take a tram directly in front of the Pension which quickly takes you to the centre of Amsterdam
- possibility to rent bicycles directly at the Pension
- building exteriorly pretty
- Breakfast buffet with a relatively large but not very qualitative choice.

But a few negative points that disappointed us and why we will not go back:
- Fairly dirty Inn: carpeted hallways completely stained, not clean room floors
- room cleaning service that leaves something to be desired: our children had to claim 2 days in a row towels that were all missing.
- rooms on the ground floor very dark
- unclean staff (no uniform and for some of the outfits that are not what I would expect from a 4 star Inn staff)
- During Breakfast, a person picks up plates and cutlery with a plastic cart of the "canteen" type. This is no big deal, but it is not what is expected of a Pension in this category.

In short, on a trip to the countries of Northern Europe and from one Pension to another, we were able to compare the different benefits and were disappointed by it.

Although this hotel is not in the city center, we believe it's in a prime location because we experienced the local experience with local restaurants, breweries, bakeries & markets. The city center is about a 30 minute walk & if you take public transportation it's about 5-10 min away. The host was incredibly hospitable & personal; he made us feel safe, welcome & comfortable. The hotel itself was thoughtful in providing a welcome note & mini stroop waffles. The hotel room was clean. The air conditioning didn't work the best, but we managed & were too lazy to ask for a fan or open the window. We stayed in the room with one king bed which was perfect for us two (husband and wife) however the bed was made by putting two twins put together so it wasn't the most comfortable. There is a restaurant & bar downstairs. We felt extremely safe in the hotel when we woke up early (6A) & came back late (2AM). Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

A lovely historic hotel that used to be a civilian hospital built in the 1800s.
PROS: (1) The staff is extremely friendly. One of the guys that works in the restaurant literally walked us to the Muiderport train station around the corner because we were very anxious about making sure we got on the correct train in order to get to the airport on time. (2) Breakfast was really good. There was a wide array of items to choose from: eggs, pancakes, various breads, cereals, fruit, yogurt, bacon, sausage, cheeses, various juices, coffee, cappuccino, etc. (3) The room was large with different decor in each room, although our headboard was weird with naked butts by the famous photographer Spencer Tunick. The hotel clerk said it was the most popular room. It was definitely a conversation piece. (5) Very clean.

CONS: (1) The location was a distance from the heart of the city but it is located on a tram line to get you to the touristy parts of the city. (2) There is nothing to do in the area of the hotel (no good restaurants or cool night life, no stores other than a small convenience store across the street. There's a couple of little restaurants down the street, but nothing to brag about. (3) The bathtub in somewhat of a hazard if you're a short person like myself. It's too high. The design of the shower door (it's a half door) causes water to leak on the floor when showering and the tub is slippery when there is soap in it. Husband and I both nearly slipped in the tub on 2 separate occasions. (4) Not that we came to watch tv, but when in the room like to have it on. It wouldn't work half the time.

I would have enjoyed this hotel more had it been located in a different area.

Stayed for three nights Wednesday to Saturday room 108 one of the superior rooms with a balcony overlooking the front of the hotel on the 1st floor,

Very clean ,with bottled water and plenty of tea and coffee in the room and restocked daily .

Bathroom large wet room style shower and plenty of towels again changed daily .

King-size bed lots of pillow choice .

The balcony was great to watch life go by enjoying a beer in the late September sunshine .

Had breakfast one morning ,good cold selection ,and coked eggs and bacon not sure it's worth 17 euros ?

Great location the local area has lots or food and bars try Beppi pizza and burgers and shake a short stroll away .

Walked up to the windmill and local market and also a jumbo supermarket within 5 mins walk .

Team stops are local and 15 mins into the centre we used the tram app 3 days unlimited on trans and metro no issues .

Great location ,great hotel will be returning.

Thanks Ryan & Laura

When you first walk into the hotel and your room, it all looks great. I thought I'd treat myself to a nice hotel, more expensive than I would normally choose....however when you settle in, that's when you notice things...the cleanliness wasn't so great, random peanuts under the bed and debris on the carpet not very good...ordered room service on the first night, burger was nearly cold, and salad which cost €5.50 was just lettuce and pepper! Couldn't eat it all, and when housekeeping came the next day, they didn't take the plates, so my room smelt of food going off! On my last night, I had to have an early night as I wouldn't get breakfast in the morning, I tried to order room service, I spent 45 minutes calling with no response, went down to reception only to be told restaurant was closed! This was around 1930 when it should've been open and was too late for me to go out for food! No offer of anything as a goidwill gesture by way of apology...not happy with this stay at all, especially with how expensive it was.....
I was supposed to be staying here again in March but will change my booking to somewhere else...

Dear 336nickye, First, I would like to thank you for your feedback, and for booking at The Manor Amsterdam. It was very unfortunate and especially shocking for me to read in your review, that your stay was not pleasant because of the poor cleaning of our housekeeping department and the cold burger from room service. We also understand that it is not pleasant to enter your room with the smell of food from room service that is not picked up. Unfortunately, for privacy and security reasons, we instruct all our staff that they are not allowed to touch or move any items that are from the hotel guest, this includes room service food trays. When the guest has finished the room service food, the tray can be placed outside the door. Our staff do regular checks daily, to remove any trash or room service food trays from the hallways. Please do not hesitate to contact our reception desk directly for any questions or assistance. Then we can resolve this matter for you instantly. Our reception desk is open 24/7 and we are happy to be of service. My sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. The restaurant is an outsourced company and unfortunately, it was a last-minute notice from the restaurant to be closed on that Sunday of which we were not properly informed with. Directly after reading your review, I spoke to our housekeeping manager to investigate what happened to make sure this does not happy again and contacted the restaurant about the room service and opening times. I can fully imagine that your stay was unpleasant due to the poor cleaning of your room and the cold burger from room service, your experienced stay was not up to our hotel standards. We do hope that we may welcome you another time to be able to provide you with a pleasant stay at our hotel. With warm regards, Nicole Lagas General Manager The Manor Hotel Amsterdam

We booked 2 twin rooms for my aunts 80th birthday. The room for my aunt had inappropriate pictures above the bed but otherwise the room was nice. The hotel was very clean with lots of staff around. The breakfast room was very nice and a great variety and choice of freshly made hot and cold food. The hotel is right next to 2 tram stops and only 5 mins walk from a main train station so very easy to get around.

We're truly sorry, however, about the inappropriate pictures in your aunt's room. That absolutely should not have been the case, and we sincerely apologize for any discomfort it may have caused. Rijksmuseum is a 15 minute transit trip from the Manor. Transit service in Amsterdam is excellent, again using the 9292 app you can easily figure out which combination of tram/subway/train options is fastest/economical; Amsterdam is such a walkable city too - don't need to worry about getting exactly to your location via transit as it is very pleasant to walk portions of your commute. As well, the "safest" feeling city I've been to, I think.

Air conditioning does not allow you to control the temperature; normally the settings will be high, medium low, etc., whereas climate control allows you to set the temperature. Rather like a car, some have air conditioning while the latest ones have climate control.
