I found B&B Alexander on Trip Advisor and, based on the reviews, made a booking. I had had several email exchanges with the owner prior to arriving to arrange dates and to provide me with directions on how to find the place from the airport. It was extremely easy as all we had to do was catch a 197 bus right outside the airport terminal for a trip of about 20 minutes (4€) to the Museumplein stop. Once there, all we had to do was walk around the corner.

From the moment we stepped into the place I knew we would not be disappointed. The house was built in 1887, and beautifully appointed with high ceilings with lovely mouldings in all of the rooms and lots of stained glass. Janneke, the owner, met us at the door and escorted us to our room on the top floor. As other reviewers have noted, the stairs are very steep and a bit of a challenge with a heavy suitcase. But that is part of the charm of this B&B so it is not something to complain about. Our room, at the front of the house on the top floor, was nice and large with a big bed, two dressers, a place to hang clothes, a large table and two chairs, and three big windows looking out onto the street. The lighting is good for reading in bed. There was an adjoining good-sized bathroom with toilet, sink and shower - lots of hot water and good pressure. There was a welcoming bottle of wine in the room.

Breakfast is served in the dining room at a time selected by each guest. It consists of a choice of different breads and croissants (bought the same morning), cheese, cold meats, yoghourt, fruit, tea, coffee and juice. Eggs are also prepared on request. There is more than enough to keep you full at least until lunch time if not longer. Wifi is also included and the signal is good.

Each floor of the house also has a small kitchenette that you can use to prepare meals or just coffee or tea. Our kitchenette contained a hot plate, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, fridge, and lots of dishes and cutlery.

There are many restaurants nearby, a large modern supermarket is only 2 minutes walk and major museums (Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum) are only 5 minutes by foot. It took us about 30 minutes to walk to Anne Frank House. And of course the main concert hall - the Concertgebouw, is right behind the B&B. So the location is great as all major points of interest are easily accessible yet it is not right in the heart of the city so it is nice and quiet at night. I should point out that for visitors who do not like to walk there is an excellent public transit service that will take you all over the city. It can be reached only a few steps from the B&B.

My partner and I stayed here for a long weekend, it was our first stay and what a find! The landlady, Janneke is a lovely person , very interesting to talk to, very attentive and is very proud ( and rightly so!) of her beautiful house. Our room was on the first floor, it was large, airy and had a huge bed. We also had exclusive use of a kitchen area and shower room.
Breakfast was fantastic and served with other guests in the living area, We had a big night one night and said we would not make breakfast, Janneke would have non of it and when we woke she had left our breakfast waiting in the kitchen.
The B & B is in the Museum area, very Central and easy walking to the heart of Amsterdam.

A Tip - When leaving the airport catch the 197 bus to the Museum Plein.

I cannot speak to highly of this B& B, We have already tried to book again but it was full so book early - I guarantee you wont be disappointed

A lovely old house in a good location near The Concertgebouw.
We stayed in a beautifully furnished large room, with a balcony, on the first floor. We had sole use of a small kitchen and a bathroom down the corridor.Touches like the welcome wine and chocolates were much appreciated.
Breakfast was served in Janneke's own charming lounge/dinning room and was excellent and very well presented.
Janneke was most welcoming and helpful and we felt like house guests.
Would definitely recommend this little gem and stay there again.

We have just arrived back from Janneke's beautiful b&b in the Museumplein district of Amsterdam. What a beautiful house with the original stained windows from 1870s when the house was built. We were made to feel very welcome by Janneke and shown to beautiful, large room on the first floor. Janneke's attention to detail is second to none, an endless supply of tea and coffee (even an espresso maker!!) and a bottle of complimentary wine.... The room was very very clean, large comfortable bed and even room for a third bed for our son. Large private bathroom and toilet with complimentary toiletries, lovely fluffy white towels and bath robes. Janneke is very proud of her home and her city and is a fountain of knowledge and speaks such wonderful English. Now for the breakfasts.... WOW, they are fabulous, juices, endless teas or coffees, fresh croissants, rolls, meats, cheeses, stollen, yoghurts fruit and the list could go on all eaten in her dining room. I would recommend Janneke's B&B to anyone and would stay there again without any hesitation. It is only a short walk to the centre of Amsterdam and a 2 minute walk to the Van Gogh museum. Once again Janneke, thank you.

Good place very near Consertgebouw and Museumplein.
Janneke is a very good host, everithing was perfect!
Ofcourse there are the for Amsterdam well-known steep stairs.
But we 62 and 63 managed this without problems.
The breakfast was great!
Bus 197 from Schiphol Airport is stopping in front of Concertgebouw at the De Lairessestraat.

My teenage daughter and I were staying in this B&B. We had a lovely large room. Toilette and bathroom were on the landing, but private. It was a very good stay, of course different than in a hotel because you have no service (making up of rooms, cleaning bathroom etc). A bit on the expensive side though. There were only a couple of small things to say: the window did not open in our room. It was stuck. We had to turn off the heating because it became too hot. The owner smokes so people not liking the smell of cigarettes in the whole house should abstain. There are two lovely cats in the house, again, people allergic to cats should abstain. There was a small incidence when we were woken up at 8.30h to go to breakfast. That was not so pleasant.

I feel very lucky for selecting this place on my vacation. I think it is one of the best B&B in the city. First of all, cleaning and privacy was very important for me. We stayed with my husband on the first floor which whole floor was belonging to us. We had nicely decorated wide bedroom, kitchenette (including tea, coffee...), wc and the bathroom. In addition, it is located in the museum quarter that most of museums are in walking distance. And if you take number 5 tram on the main road, it takes about 10 minutes to go to city center, dam square. Lastly, the owner of the house, Ms.Jannekke was very kind and helpful lady, and she prepared a rich and delicious breakfast to us. If one day, I go back to Amsterdam, I will definitely stay here again.

An excellent recommendation from some friends, this lovely old house has a graceful attentive hostess in Janneke who made us feel so welcome. We felt as though we were temporarily sharing her beautiful home. We were on the top floor in a bright airy room with an en-suite shower room and a small kitchen right next door. The location is perfect, between the Museum area and the Vondel Park and just up the street from the Concertgebouw (Concert Hall). We could walk everywhere and there are good restaurants and fine shops very close by.
We took the 197 bus (4 euros fare) from just outside Arrivals at Schipol Airport to Museumplein.
The B&B is just a few minutes walk from the bus-stop.

I came across B&B Alexander on the Amsterdam B&B Association website. The location is excellent. Het Concertgebouw is right in the backyard and all the action (queues of patrons, orchestra movers, etc.) happening around there daily was very exciting for a performing arts fan like me. And there's Museumplein right across the road, where the van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum and iconic IAMSTERDAM landmark are! A Blue Boat canal cruise ticket booth is also within walking distance. For visiting farther places, I never had to take the metro because this neighbourhood is well-connected by tram lines and the tram stops are just around the block.
I had a room on the third floor during my stay in Amsterdam. Janneke is the perfect hostess. I had a huge suitcase but she carried it all the way up for me. My room was carpeted and comfy and well-stocked with sightseeing books and guides. I was also pleasantly surprised by a bottle of wine on the fireplace. My room as well as the house is practically a gallery with tasteful artwork and intricate antique furniture.
I had high hopes of B&B Alexander and was not at all disappointed! Janneke's breakfast spread (yes, breakfast is served!) comprises a rich selection of breads, cheeses, hams, jams and fruits. It was a joy to gather with the other guests around the fine and cosy dining room. Normally guests dine around 8am. Twice I had to set out much earlier to catch a tour, so I told Janneke I'd be missing breakfast, but she insisted I have something and rushed to the baker's for fresh croissants without a word of complaint. What is this, if not true hospitality! I'm so glad I chose to stay here and definitely want to come back again!

My apologies for being so late in answering your enquiry. You have somehow mistaken me for the owner of B & B Alexander in Amsterdam. I am only a tourist who simply wrote a positive review of my stay there in June of 2015. If you check the website of the B & B, you will easily obtain the owner's email address.
