Hotel is in an ideal location for visiting Amsterdam, we stayed in an superior room overlooking the de Bijenkorf department store that was decorated for Christmas which made our trip all the romantic. The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We dined in the restaurant several times and found the food and service to be first...

I had stayed in this hotel over 30 years ago as a teenager, so chose it again as I remembered how well placed it is for the station and the city centre. The staff are all very friendly and happy for help with any queries. The initial room we were shown to was very dark and overlooking the side alley,...

We stayed for four nights (from the UK) and it was the perfect base for us. We hardly spent any time there but the room (No.109) was modern, comfortable and plenty big enough. The location meant that returning to drop off shopping/change clothes/have a nap during the busy days was no problem. If you want somewhere pleasant and central, go...

Located on Dam square. The hotel is clean and accommodating. Fair pricing. Bathroon a little small. Tea / Coffee and a fridge are available. Free Wi-Fi, Double glass windows. But the important factor is the staff....with no exception, always welcome you with a smile, anxious to help and advise. It has been a while since I got such a service....

Hotel: Rooms are really pretty decent sized for a European hotel. Our bathroom was a shoebox with mold problems in the grout, as there was no distinct area between the rest of the bathroom and the shower so the water goes pretty much everywhere. They need better exhaust fans to keep the black mold out. If you're sensitive to mold,...

A fantastic central location for your base whilst exploring Amsterdam. The rooms are small but are extremely clean and have everything you need - the beds are extremely comfortable...just what you want after a day exploring. Tea and coffee facilities are provided and there is a fridge for your own use. Breakfast is offered at 10€ and is well worth...

First had a tiny, tiny room with a tiny, tiny bathroom and a shower that soaked the entire floor. They say they're working on how to solve that issue but I would suggest two little words: shower curtain! Also, the bed was two twin beds shoved together, on wheels of course so they would shove themselves apart at a moment's...

Best quality place in the city for better price than others. Great buffet breakfast and the evening menu of the excellent famous restaurant inside the hotel. The Superior rooms are clean with air conditioning and perfect fast Wi-Fi(measured 15/2 on my Galaxy S7) . Everything seems new and for the price and the location on the Dam square you can't...

This hotel is in a great location, central to most things in Amsterdam city. We had a room on 1st floor looking onto Damrak. Good double glazing so we didn't get much noise from outside coming in. Room was clean and tidy (everyday) and very good size. Good bathroom facilities and shower nice. Good wifi (free). Staff were very friendly....

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Great central location, affordable rates, clean & comfortable rooms and friendly & attentive hospitality. In an amazing location, just off Dam Square and right in the middle of Amsterdam's city center, you'll find Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw. This is where you want to stay if you're coming to Amsterdam. Sure, you can find fancier 4 star hotels in Amsterdam, but what we may lack in glitz we more than make up for in authentic friendliness and true hospitality. All of our bathrooms are all new, and our rooms are comfortable, well maintained, and always spotlessly clean. ... more   less
