Great location in the centre alongside Dam Square. Junior Suite 202 was very good except water flow in shower was rather low; big TV with lots of channels, bathroom with basin, bath with shower over and separate shower cubicle. A separate room with WC and basin. Big bed with lots of room around and a small sitting area. Food at...

Stayed here for 3 nights last week. The hotel is in a fantastic location. Just off Dam square & central train station is visible from the hotel. It was very easy to get the train from the airport & walk up one street to the hotel. Just over €4 each. Just make sure you leave the station through the front...

Stayed here for 3 nights a couple of days ago. Supposed to be a Superior Room but only a small standard sized double bed in a room that was just about big enough to accommodate it. No daylight as window looked out in to a tiny central area(can't call it a courtyard). Bathroom equally small with a very slippery for...

Staying here 4 nights with my wife and enjoying it. Room is decent size, updated and clean. Bathroom is small, but this IS Europe. Only complaint is that the shower glass should be about 6 inches wider and needs a plastic wiper to keep water spray from shower leaking out onto floor. Addressed with adjusting shower head, so not so...

Quick visit, small rooms but well equipped. Very well placed at centre of Amsterdam. Staff is very helpful as well. Nothing much to expect apart from cleanness and great location, nothing more. Did not try anything else apart from the room...

Great hotel in the heart of the city. The staff is super friendly and service is fast. We had some tech problem in our room which the staff resolved quickly and even gave us a free dinner while doing repair work. We will definetly come back. Good experience.

I stayed at De Roode Leeuw a few years ago while in Amsterdam on business. It's located directly on Dam Rak a block away from the square. Highly recommend getting the second floor corner room: huge old windows overlooking the street and partial square (and the side street which is bathed in cool yellow light at night). The room was...

This is a decent hotel, moderately priced, with a fantastic location pretty much in the precise middle of 'tourist' Amsterdam. An easy walk from the main railway station at Centraal, the hotel lies on the corner of Dam Square. The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped, albeit a touch small, the breakfast is a generous buffet and the staff are friendly...

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Great central location, affordable rates, clean & comfortable rooms and friendly & attentive hospitality. In an amazing location, just off Dam Square and right in the middle of Amsterdam's city center, you'll find Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw. This is where you want to stay if you're coming to Amsterdam. Sure, you can find fancier 4 star hotels in Amsterdam, but what we may lack in glitz we more than make up for in authentic friendliness and true hospitality. All of our bathrooms are all new, and our rooms are comfortable, well maintained, and always spotlessly clean. ... more   less
