The hotel was in a great location and had a superb room with a wonderfully big bed and comfy pillows, however for those wanting a break from the business of london or paris, it is not the ideal location. The staff were friendly, their English was wonderful and the food nearby plentiful. However, be aware that if you book through...

We were pleased to learn that you had an enjoyable stay. Yes, this hotel is in the heart of the city and for those wanting to get away from other city centers, the Netherlands offers plenty of beautiful and quiet hotels in the country side. But for those coming to Amsterdam to enjoy city life our property is in a...

It was with great regret that I learned that we could not meet your expectations during your visit to our property and would like to start this by presenting you my sincere apologies. The hotel was booked up to capacity during the past months, and I am aware that there sporadicaly were problems in the allocation of rooms. In your...

This hotel has an excellent location, if possible as for one of the 2 rooms on the top floor. I believe they're more spacious than the other rooms.

Our location is indeed one of the best in Amsterdam. The place where it all started in the 13th century by building a dam in the Amstel river, now known as Dam Square is at 50 meters of our main entrance. We have several categories of rooms and the more spacious one are the superior rooms, not necessary at the...

My most important factors in selecting a hotel are location, safety, cleanliness and cost. De Roode hits the mark on all of these. Perfect location (walking distance from Central Station and one block from a tram station). Hotel is safe (front door security 24/7, on a main street with lots of restaurants and traffic). Clean, with especially nice bathrooms. Good...

The factors you are using when selecting a hotel are important ones. Of course we can not do much on the location but with such a central location as ours we are more than happy. Safety and cleanliness are very important for us and we put a lot of emphasis in maintaining high standards both by training our staff as...

It is always a pleasure for us to learn that guests are returning based on their previous experience. Amsterdam has so much to offer that a single visit is not enough and our location is an excellent base for visiting the city. We are looking forward to welcoming you again in the future

We stayed for 2 nights as part of a package (so I can't really comment on price or value for money). We expected a 4* hotel with 4* service. We had a nice-enough hotel, but not quite up to what I expect from a 4*. The good bits. Very centrally located, almost on Dam Square. Very friendly and helpful staff...

It was with interest that we have read your comments. As far as the good bits are concerned, we were pleased to learn that you found the hotel clean and the staff helpful and friendly. As far as the not-quite-so-good-bits are concerned. You found the hotel dated. The last renovation of our rooms dates of 9 years ago so we...

Delightful and most helpful staff. Hotel itself rather old fashioned but perfectly good enough for a city break. Just off the Dam Square with trams stopping in front and behind the hotel make this an excellent centre from which to tour Amsterdam.

Our staff appreciates your comments ( as I do of course). Old fashioned hotel ? This year we have our 100th birthday so we cannot be compared to modern properties. In the restaurant we keep that style on purpose but our rooms will look very different after the next renovation which starts at the end of this year. . The...

We thank you for your review. Very close to the city? We are in the middle of it for at only a few steps of our hotel the dam in the Amstel river was where it all started back in 1275. We wish you many more yearly weekends at our property and will do our utmost to make them pleasant.

We had a larger, corner room at the back of the hotel which was delightful. Street noise was not a problem. The single elevator is rather slow. Staff very friendly and helpful. Conrad Hilton said it already somewhere in the middle of last century. The key for success is "Location, location, location" . Although we are not a Hilton and since 100 years an independent hotel under the same ownership, this is also valid for our property. Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
