Detailed Reviews
Stayed at the end of September via the Staycation package with my wife and 4 year old.
Reservation was smooth and had very good contact prior our arrival with Mary-Jeanne Bussue.
Day of arrival we could already checkin early as we participated in a chopstick and origami workshop at 11.00 which was part of the Staycation package. Parking was onsite and included in the Staycation rate. Checkin was smooth.
As it was my wife’s birthday weekend we invited some guests to have lunch in Serre. Tables were placed perfectly to maintain social distance. Food and service excellent.
Went for a swim in the afternoon for which you need to reserve a 45 min timeslot also to maintain social distance in the poolarea.
The Staycation package included a 3 course meal in the room which we upgraded to dinner in Yamazato. Dinner was amazing ( 7 courses) and very friendly staff! Next day breakfast was again in room and included in the rate. Nice selection of breakfast items.
Room itself was a Executive Junior Suite with City View on the 21st floor. Amazing views as we had a corner room. Room was modern with a nice size of 50m2, separate bath and tub and seating area. My wife received a nice birthday attention as well!
Overall the hotel was spotless and all areas well equiped to handle the Covid situation. Handsanitizers, tissues to press elevator buttons, max 2 people limit for elevator or 1 family. When entering via the car park mouthmasks and desinfectant wipes provided as well. Staff also with mask and maintaining social distance.
Checkout was also smooth and 1 minor issue with the bill was handled promptly as the charge of roomrate was incorrect.
All in all we had a wonderfull 2 days would recommend the Staycation package.

My dear husband arranged a staycation in Hotel Okura for the last week of May 2021. This was to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and now I can say that was great choice :) First of all the hotel complies with all the Covid measures and paid great attention to the sanitization. All the common areas plus our room are crystal clear. Face masks, gel and cleaning wipes are provided to the guests in all public areas. Upon arrival to our room, we were offered a yummy celebration cake from the room service as a gift :) We stayed on the 19th floor which provides a great overview of Amsterdam. Even from the bath tub you can view the scenery, that's insane! I wish complimentary toiletries would have been greater in choice and number, but that's ok. There is king size bed which is so comfy (also pillows). We had our first coffee in the mornings from Nespresso coffee machine in the room. We could use the pool & fitness facilities by appointment and therefore was so quiet and comfortable (a side note pool is not so big, consists of only three lanes). The breakfast was good but nothing special. The hotel hosted us with a good care and friendly attitude, really appreciate. Overall was a lovely weekend and I recommend 100% to anyone who would like to indulge herself/himself

If you want to relax, be pampered, get extraordinarily good service, enjoy amazing hotel room views and have superb food and beverage experiences Hotel Okura Amsterdam is the place to go!
I had booked a night at Okura for my husbands birthday. The service really started before we even entered the building with just the sweetest porters at the door, wanting to help us with everything. We were thoughtfully reminded to use a mask and sanitize our hands which just gave us in instantly safe feeling. Actually, we were given a safe feeling throughout our entire stay. You could tell they have put a lot of thought in their safety measures from the reception, to the elevators and all other facilities. After a swift check in we were very surprised with an upgrade to an amazing room and to have a birthdaycake waiting for us, which was such a lovely gesture. Having worked in hotels myself, I know it is not always possible to give upgrades, so I was very happy to see we got lucky ;). The room was really beautiful, with stunning views of Amsterdam. I could not stop looking! Ofcourse, everything in the room was as you may expect: clean, all the necesary amenities and a large comfortable bed. After a lovely cocktail in the bar, we had dinner at Serre restaurant and we could not get over how good it was! Seriously, VERY good food, VERY good service and friendly for your wallet. I cannot wait until we can go here again. Also the Breakfast at Camelia restaurant is absolutely worth a mention, I think they did an amazing job at all the small details making sure all guests were comfortable and safe during these Covid times. Maybe because I have worked in hospitality I have a sharper eye for these details, but my compliments in all the thought that has been put in it. The check out process was very swift and we were lucky that Louis even gave us a little tour of the hotel, thank you for that!
Bottomline, we had a weekend that we will never forget and we are very thankful to the wonderful Okura staff for this!

Have have stayed here 3 times before, and so clearly have had a lot of affection for the hotel in the past; and whilst you cannot fault the amazing restaurants, the hotel side of things has become poor.
When we arrived on friday only one lift was working. We weren't told this when we checked in. It took us ages to finally get a lift to our room when guests of ciel bleu were prioritised both literally and in terms of conversation whilst waiting by hotel staff. We were made to feel very unwelcome.
When we tried to come down from our room on the 8th floor we waited ages and when no lift was available we decided to use the stairs. So we found a door that said "exit" (not emergency exit) and went down 8 flights only to find this was a dead end apart from a door that said emergency exit and no reentry. Because there were no doors to floors 0, 1, or 2 we had to climb back up very steep and hot stairs to floor 3 to again wait for a lift again which then went up and stopped at many floors on the way up and down. The staff themselves were using this lift to get between floors too adding to the cramped and uncomfortable conditions.
When I complained only then was I told that there was a staff lift we could use.
It took ages just to get from our room to outside, and we were hot and uncomfortable and angry by then.
I shouldn't have had to complain, a restaurant guest told me that the lifts have been out of order for several weeks. Why not tell us when we checked in that there was only one lift working? Why not tell us that there is a staff lift we can use? Why not tell us how to use the stairs? Why let staff use the only working guest lift, especially when there are people waiting on every floor unable to get on because it's full?
The rooms are starting to get dated with chipped furniture and mould stains in the shower areas.
Then the strangest thing, when I checked in I was told I would have a small holding fee on my credit card, no problem. However, I checked my credit card statement and as well as that payment which I authorised, the following day another seperate much larger amount was taken on hold. No idea, no explanation, and when I brought this up with staff they just said it was done automatically. I have no idea whether they are going to keep charging my credit card for things for no reason "automatically". Bizarre.
And then to the concerns we had about the spa. On Saturday there was a couple very openly and obviously having an intimate encounter in the jacuzzi. It was disgusting. The staff did nothing to stop this. There are cameras and the gym reception staff occasionally look down but they are not enforcing the rules. There were 4 people in the spa on their phones despite it clearly stating there should be no phone use, and people were taking photos inside the nude only sauna room. This is not what you expect from a spa in a 5 star hotel. Obviously we were not able to use the jacuzzi during our stay because of our concerns about the behaviour of other guests using it.
On Saturday our room wasn't made up during the day. No idea why, it's usually done twice a day, I had the "make up my room" button pressed.

We had a room on the 16th floor and felt a bit outdated, old tv hanging on the wall (did not work properly), stain on the carpet, only one bathrope available in the room, no comb, razor, toothbrush were part of the amenities. Scent of shower gel, soap, boxy lotion smelled a bit cheap, not a 5 star scent. Breakfast was a dissapointment if you compare to other 5 star hotels, personnel was standing in the way, blocking the buffet, like they were unexperienced. The swimming area is not relaxed, lights are too bright over there, couple was arguing, very load. Massage chair did not work, staff looked away and did not even asked if I needed help. Overall a dissapointment. This hotel could be very nice, but a lot of things need to be fixed to create a 5 star hotel experience.

+1
I booked the superior executive room with access to the executive lounge, I arrived everything was fake, executive rooms were under renovation, executive lounge was allocated in a corner of the bar, whether or not you took a seat at the table, everything was offered a few croissants, 3 slices of salami, ham and 3 slices of cheese ...
The renovation of the executive rooms and the lounge was not announced neither on the site nor when I made the reservation. Last night I tried to have dinner at the hotel restaurant, surprise ... we had no tables available for the hotel guests. A clean and beautiful hotel with services disappointing, with many attempts to mislead.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your stay at Hotel Okura Amsterdam and for taking the time to share you impressions. We regret to read that your experience did not meet your expectations. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We currently indeed are in the midst of renovating our Executive Lounge and the last phase of our guestrooms. We try to minimize the inconveniences as much as possible. We regret that we were not able to do so. We are also privileged to have very popular restaurants which are popular amongst both our hotel guests and local residents. This is why we usually advise to book a table well in advance. Although we try to express this importance during the reservation and pre-arrival messages, we regret to learn that this message did not reach you. We appreciate that you took the time to share your feedback with us. It is the feedback of our guests that gives us the opportunity to continuously improve our products and services. Once again, thank you for sharing your impressions and along with the entire team we hope to welcome you back soon at Hotel Okura Amsterdam. Yours sincerely, Hotel Okura Amsterdam

I have been coming to Hotel Okura for many years and I love ‚almost everything‘ about it. Rooms are lovely, beds are comfortable, swimming pool is magical. Two comments that would further improve the offering: I would love the staff at front desk to know that I am a regular customer rather than asking me if I have been here before. The system should tell them that ‚yes I am a regular‘. The second comment is to give up single use plastic. There are five plastic bottles in the bathroom which could be replaced with reusable containers. And a soap bar is not necessary. Billions of soap bars are being used once an thrown away. There must be a better use of ressources. If you manage to implement those changes I will give you a top rating again.

Everything in this hotel is excellent especially the view. The view is amazing.
The breakfast is also very good - there’s huge variety of products for any taste, but it’s expensive. If you don’t eat much in the morning it can be cheaper to have breakfast in your room.

I have travelled all over these past 30 years but I have to admit that this hotel is exceptional. Every one at the lobby, valet service, restaurant, pool area, and room cleaning are both pro and particularly attentive to every need we had. A particular thanks and bravo to Marian and Friets at the front door - Marian is smiling all the time, joking regularly and helpful (beyond what can normally be expected). Keep up the good (excellent) work guys !!

From the moment I booked my suite, I was warmly greeted with a welcome email asking if I have any special requests. Okura not only allowed us to check in early (our flight from Los Angeles landed at 7AM), but they also provided me with the suite I requested with an amazing view on the highest floor possible! Due to COVID, my girlfriend and I had to schedule a specific time for the amenities but this actually worked out to our benefit because we do not like big crowds.
The location was exactly what we wanted. Okura hotel is less than 15 minutes from the airport and has the most amazing restaurants within 5 -10 minutes walking distance. We did not get a chance to eat at the hotel because my girlfriend wanted to explore the city, but we had some very strong drinks at the rooftop bar which had the best views, great bartenders and comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended!
The staff was my favorite part, they made us feel like royalty and provided us recommendations for entertainment, vegan food places (for my girlfriend), local hotspots and museums. I accidentally left my phone at the airport my first day in Amsterdam and the hotel was able to connect me with the lost and found department and also give me a discounted ride to the airport by one of their taxis. Nick at the front desk will make you feel like family!
The room (executive junior suite) was worth every penny! My favorite features were the curtains automatically opening up to a panoramic view, the huge bathroom but most importantly THE BED!!!!!
I chose Okura because I wanted everything to be perfect for our first international trip together and this hotel went above and beyond to make sure my girlfriend and I remained comfortable every single day. I am not lying when I say we will check for the Okura brand every time we travel and we are already planning our next trips to San Francisco for a wedding in October and Tokyo for New Years Eve and we plan to stay at the Okura!
Dear BartS1139,
Thank you for your question.
Please know that we honour third party booking requests only when there is availability in our hotel.
I strongly recommend that you can contact our Reservations Department and let them know about the third party agency offer so we can match it up.
Kind regards,
Hi there, I'd suggest you take a taxi or an Uber. Hotel concierge will be happy to assist you in getting a reliable taxi, as there unfortunately are quite some taxi companies out there that try to scam tourists.
Public transport would not be my first choice.
I do hope your booking is far ahead in time, as the hotel is closed now and travel restrictions are in place.
The Okura Amsterdam, is located in the De Pijp District of Amsterdam, a short tram, or bus ride from the Central crowded Tourist Area. It is in a more tranquil, residential area, away from the main Canal region, with many excellent parks, and famous world museums nearby.
Note that if you wish to visit certain museums, it is advisable to book, well before your arrival. The famous Albert Cuyp Market is also nearby.
A range of trams, and busses run from the city centre, eg Central Station, or Dam Square, to just around the corner from the Okura Hotel, which is also situated by a lovely canal, used by local folk, in their small vessels.
An average journey time to the centre by bus, or tram, is less than 15 minutes. A metro service is also available.
Purchasing a Chip Card for the number of days you require to get around may be the cheapest and most convenient option.
Cards, can be bought from the Okura’s Concierge, or on the trams, or busses.
Note: It is important to tap your card on boarding, or you may be fined. Also important to tap when leaving, or the card may then cease to function for future journeys for the remainder of that day.
