shibumi (渋み) (noun), : Japanese words which refer to a particular aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty. Like other Japanese aesthetic terms, such as iki and wabi-sabi, shibui can apply to a wide variety of subjects, not just art or fashion. The hotel breaths the art of hospitality. As former lecturer at Stenden University International Hospitality Management, and Cruise...

We booked for Easter Weekend, not cheap but a "good deal" considering the Easter holiday. We were upgraded to a superior room on the 15th floor. Great room with facilities and a stunning view. The Spa includes a comprehensively equipped work out area, steam room, Sauna, jacuzzi and a really excellent 18m pool where we swam every morning. This is...

A wonderful, wonderful hotel is this. As soon as you arrive you know you are somewhere special, the entrance is very grand and the staff were polite and friendly. Check in was quick and efficient and made us feel very at home. However, the room was the highlight. A huge, comfortable bed, a huge bath and lots of space, for...

First off, we paid a good rate for the room, think we must have got a bit lucky when booking (week or two in advance), so value wise, thought it was good. The hotel provides a great 5* service, and when you arrive, you have door opened, bags taken from you, and the ushered to your room. We forgot to...

The hotel is located in a quiet part of A'dam, not the nicest one but at only 20' walking distance from the center with all musea. The rooms are nice but rather oriented to business people than to tourists /families and somewhat too expensive. Some have a very nice bath room with view on the roofs of A'dam. Excellent sleep confort....

just got back from a weekend in Amsterdam. The hotel is stunning. The room was turned down on arrival with soft, ambience lighting and the view from our floor, 14th was beautiful. The staff were so helpful. When we arrived we were informed of a hold deposit of 300€ which I didn't have on my card. They were understanding as...

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The concierge and front desk staff were all friendly and knowledgeable and offered great support for making arrangements throughout our stay. We were pleased with all of the facilities offered - the health club was spacious, bright and offered great equipment. The pool is very well maintained and we were happy to...

As part of a group of 24, my wife and I stayed at the Okura for four nights in March 2015. Ours was a Superior, i.e., standard, room. It was a corner room, and I believe that it was one of the larger rooms in this category (Room 617). The hotel is deserving of its five-star ranking as just about...

The rooms are fine albeit not spectacular. The staff however, is extremely friendly, the concierge managed to get us museumtickets in no time when all online tickets were sold out. There are 3 restaurants with stars on thepremises. I can recommend the topfloor bar with stunning views over the city.

Stayed here for two nights on a recent visit to Amsterdam. Booked a suite which was okay but not exceptional so was the breakfast. Staff there are really lovely though and are always ready to help. Its easy to get around from the hotel as a there's a tram stop a couple of minutes away. The toiletries provided are also...

Staying in De Pijp

Neighbourhood Profile
De Pijp
Bustling Albert Cuypstraat serves as the main drag through De Pijp and the location for Albert Cuyp Market, the largest and most famous of Amsterdam’s many outdoor markets. Beyond this sometimes-frantic thoroughfare, tiny lanes beckon urban explorers in search of the latest trends and hidden gems. Nearly half the residents living in De Pijp are foreigners and a good number of them are students. Here you'll find a multitude of ethnic restaurants, great cafes and bars, and a brilliant array of locally owned shops, all catering to a broad range of budgets and tastes.
