Reviews summary

The Ibis Amsterdam Centre Stopera hotel garners mixed reviews on value, with some guests deeming it reasonably priced for its central location, despite others mentioning high costs. Although the rooms are often described as small, many appreciate their cleanliness and views, yet the comfort level and amenities receive mixed reactions. Staff service is commonly praised for their friendliness and efficiency, while the hotel's amenities, such as 24hr pizza and umbrella rental, are noted positives, despite criticisms of bathroom quality and lack of accessibility features. The hotel's prime location is a highlight for guests, and while the atmosphere of the cool, gang-style rooms is well-liked, opinions on the compact bathroom pods are divided.

Fabulous time, while stay here, bed is massive and comfy in the premier rooms overlooking the canal at the back.in walking distance of all the major attractions and Amsterdam central station
Staff were welcoming and friendly reception staff upon arrival explained how to get an early check in for free and the two rooms we booked were close together.
Food at breakfast was good and drinks and varied food while a little expensive were ok for a city centre hotel.
Room was spotless and there was little noise outside all in all a fantastic stay in a great location

Stayed for three nights whilst visiting relatives, whilst the hotel is a reasonable budget hotel, it took me two mornings asks at reception for my shower body wash to be refilled before it was done. It should have been full when we arrived but in actual fact was empty and I really wonder if any of the previous room guests had mentioned this.
Also a good indication of attention to detail was the luggage tag in the corridor that wasn’t removed for two days. Does a senior manager ever walk around to observe how rings are getting done?

Dear Mark, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are sorry that your stay did not fully meet your expectations. We apologize for the inconvenience with the shower body wash refill; it is our standard to check and replenish all amenities before a new guest arrives. Furthermore, the oversight with the luggage tag not being removed promptly is noted, and we are addressing this to ensure better monitoring of our corridors. Nonetheless, we hope you had the chance to experience our SweetBeds by ibis during your stay! We are looking forward to welcoming you again. All the best! Team Ibis Amsterdam Centre Stopera

Despite the name this is appropriately 10-15 mins from Dam square and further from the station and for that reason I recommend staying at the Ibis at the station

This Ibis is clean pleasant and the staff efficient and very polite

So why 3 stars?

The location is poor considering it’s called “central” but the real issue is the breakfast which at €18 is very expensive and appears to be missing key ingredients not least fried eggs and bacon and it only provides chicken sausage

I’m sure Ibis knows its market and clearly it doesn’t include me….

Dear Kevin, Thank you for taking the time to share your review. We are delighted that you found our hotel clean and appreciated the politeness and efficiency of our staff. These aspects are fundamental to us, and we are pleased to know that we have met your expectations in this regard. However, we understand that you felt our location was not as central as you expected and that the breakfast experience did not align with your preferences. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. While our hotel is indeed within walking distance to the Dam Square and other attractions, we recognize that each guest has unique expectations and perceptions of distance. Regarding the breakfast, please note that we are switching some items per day to keep some variety. There will be chicken sausages one day and the next day there will be bacon on the buffet. Nonetheless, we are glad that the overall cleanliness and service provided by our team left a positive impression on you. Our location, close to many of Amsterdam's highlights and easily accessible public transport, is often praised by our guests, and we hope it ultimately contributed to your experience of Amsterdam. We hope we will have the opportunity to see you again in the future. Best regards, Team Ibis Amsterdam Centre Stopera

If you staying on a Sunday and or a Monday then be prepared for all bar and catering services to be shut at 3 in the afternoon. Crazy? Yes and it’s a fact.
No cash taken whatsoever at this hotel either. Not even a vending machine available if you’re stuck for a soft drink.
Breakfast was budget quality with the serving spoons out far ages and thick with old food. Disgusting they were.
The bed was reasonably comfortable as long as you can get to it as you will stick to the floor which hadn’t seen a cleaning mop and warm water for a long time.
A sign states that no weed can be smoked in the garden area. But is is allowed and as soon as you open your room window it stinks the room out. Does anyone care? No they do not.
Tourist and city tax comes in at a ridiculous 23 euros for just two nights.
I would not stay there ever again and that’s my advice to you. Don’t bother. Plenty of better choices to be had.

Dear Rob, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're glad to hear that you found our beds comfortable, ensuring a good night's rest is indeed a priority for us. We regret to hear that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Our bar and catering services have adjusted hours due to staffing challenges, but we are pleased to inform that they will resume regular operations from January. We only accept card payments as part of our efforts to provide a safe and efficient service environment. Our vending machines are available around the clock for your convenience. We are also concerned about your note on cleanliness and the smell of smoke; rest assured we hold our housekeeping standards in high regard and have strict non-smoking policies to ensure the comfort of all our guests. The city tax is indeed a mandatory fee for all visitors to Amsterdam, which is beyond our control. We hope to have the opportunity to better serve you in the future and show you the high standards we strive to uphold. We would welcome the chance to improve upon your recent experience should you choose to stay with us again. All our best wishes for the holiday season, Team Ibis Amsterdam Centre Stopera

I'm used to smaller European hotels so... They will charge your credit card as soon as you book regardless of when you stay is. I was charged in December for a stay in January and because I was late arriving they tried to charge me an additional night.
To small for two people. Tiny plastic pod bathroom that echos throughout room. No ventilation in bathroom and door must be propped open with you bag or something. Room smells like a locker room and my companions room reeks of cigarettes. Towels are thin and coarse the toilet paper if the cheapest most industrial type available.

No coffee or water kettle in room. No fridge, no space to open suitcase except on bed but no space to put small clothes that can't be hung up.
People are nice, corporate is not. Can't email the hotel, the email is invalid. Will not issue refunds either.
Cash not accepted.

Dear Audrey, Thank you for your feedback, We are pleased that you found our staff to be nice, reflecting our commitment to providing hospitable and attentive service. However, we regret to hear about your concerns regarding the credit card charge ahead of your stay and the inconvenience you experienced due to the misunderstanding about an additional night's charge. While our rooms are designed to optimize space and functionality, we apologize if this design was not to your liking. Our hotel aims to provide a comfortable atmosphere, so we're truly sorry to learn about the odors you encountered. Please know that we offer a variety of rooms with different views that may provide a more pleasant experience. Finally, we regret any confusion or difficulties you had with communication and our payment policy. Our team is always ready to assist with any queries or concerns at the reception, available 24/7 for your convenience. We hope to welcome you again in the future. We booked a wheelchair accessible double room. Checking in and getting to the room was fine (lifts are decent size and operational the whole week we stayed). The room, however, was very small. My wife uses a custom made manual wheelchair, so she was able to get into the room. However, if you had a larger chair or if two people used wheelchairs, then this room will not suit. One side of the bed was up against the wall, meaning I had to squeeze around to get to my side. The bathroom was perfect.

The hotel does not have accessible toilets in the general areas (reception and restaurant). After we checked out we left our bags in the hotel’s storage. When we came back later we had a cup of tea and asked to use the toilet, but my wife couldn’t as there was no accessible toilet. This is a modern building, so there is no excuse for this and we had to walk 30mins to find another toilet.

Other points of note: the hotel offers 24hr pizzas at reception and these are great; there is an umbrella rental for €3 for 48hrs, which is also great; the pillows are very squishy and I didn’t get a single proper sleep because my neck was killing me.

For the price of the hotel I would have expected better beds, a bit more space (especially for an accessible room) and proper toilet access for everyone.

Dear Sione, We would like to thank you for this review about your recent experience in our hotel. It is a delight to hear that you found our 24hr pizza service to be great; we take pride in offering convenient dining options to our guests. Additionally, we are pleased that the umbrella rental service added value to your experience. However, we regret to hear about the concerns regarding the size of the wheelchair accessible room and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We take note of your feedback on the pillow comfort and will consider it in our continual efforts to provide a restful sleep experience. Our aim is to provide a comfortable environment for all our guests, and we are truly sorry to hear that the accessible toilet facilities did not meet your expectations. We understand the importance of these facilities and apologize for any distress caused. We are constantly striving to improve our services and guest experiences, and your comments are invaluable to us in this process. We hope that the positive aspects of your stay will encourage you to consider us again in the future. We hope to welcome you back. Best wishes, Team Ibis Amsterdam Centre Stopera

The hotel is about a 15 minute to walk from the central train station which is probably just as convenient as taking the metro to the closest stop. The area is quieter and in a more residential area of Amsterdam but still within a 10 minute walk of the start of the touristic area with shops and restaurants. There are two good size supermarkets within a 5 minute stroll.

Upon entry to the hotel you are greeted with a modern contemporary feel. The decor has been well delivered and is inviting along with the hospitality of the staff. A request upon booking for a high floor was not honoured and I was placed on the ground floor. A personal bug bear for privacy.
The room was well appointed with the large double bed taking priority in the room. If you are familiar with the Ibis style you will feel at home with the normal amenities you can find. The view outside the window was beautiful as it was right onto the canal view stunning views. It's lovely to wake up to a misty morning with rowers going by.
The room had good WiFi with an open access which was steady but with around 5mbs. The television was quite small for the wall but did have some English channels. The bathroom was functional but somewhat dated and could do with modernisation. As normal with ibis there was open hanging space and a small desk area. Plenty of plugs and various lighting to suit all needs.
The restaurant area was very pleasant with a range of seating areas from comfy chairs to dining tables. The breakfast was not taken but was witnessed to have a large array of offerings.
Overall this is a typical Ibis hotel. It is well appointed, has what you need and is in a good location for the price. I would have no hesitation about staying here again.

The location of the hotel is on the edge of the town, about a 10 minute walk to the Red Light District and around 30 mins walk to Ann Frank House on the other end of the centre. It’s around a 15 minute walk from the Centraal station.

Check in was easy with the modern round tables rather than traditional check in desks. Staff were all friendly and provided a map of the area and told us where the local supermarkets etc were.

The room is a basic ibis room. The room is clean and the beds were comfy enough. Our room 101 overlooked the canal which was a nice view. TV has a couple of English channels. The only gripe which is why I’ve knocked a star off is there was a constant banging noise day and night - possibly the air conditioning unit on reflection - which was irritating.

Overall a decent enough stay and place to rest after a busy day sightseeing.

We stayed in this hotel in April 23 which is about 15 minutes walk from Centraal Station and about 8 minutes walk fro Waterlooplein Metro. It’s in a street that doesn’t have anything in the way of bars restaurants or shops.
The room is fine but small. The wardrobe space is completely inadequate for two people. The housekeeping is fine but we always felt under a complement to the reception staff when asking for a bed linen change or to refill the shower gel container. I also had requested a pair of slippers and was told there were none available but later I saw another guest with a pair obviously having got them from reception.
The bar area was closed most nights which was a huge disappointment and completely unacceptable. We ended up having to go to the other hotels which are all next door. We might as well have stayed in one of those hotels.
The best thing about this hotel was the breakfast. It was exceptional. There’s was everything you could want and extremely well laid out in a spacious area.
It’s doubtful I would return to this Ibis based on our stay.

Booked and prepaid bed and breakfast. on arrival was allocated a room which was located at the rear downstairs next to hotel laundry and cleaning operations. There were around 6 rooms in this area if you could call them rooms. Small, pokey, minimal natural light, no carpet on the floor just cold vinyl. The shower was a complete joke. Although paid for was not even offered breakfast. Apart from not being much of a hotel staff were excellent.
