The facilities and the cleanliness were excellent. The politeness and helpfulness of the staff were outstanding. Nothing was a problem, including advice and reservations for museums, boat trips, restaurants, etc. We stayed one night and spent 2 days around Amsterdam, so this hotel was a fantastic base, convenient and interesting location, everywhere within strolling distance, lots of places to eat...

I recently stayed at Ambassade as birthday treat for myself and I could not be happier with the choice I made. The staff were all extremely helpful and pleasant and went above and beyond without hesitation. The room was lovely with a canal view and the location of the hotel itself was convenient but yet not within a busy area....

I had the pleasure of being in three different rooms over two short stays last week (needed a bigger room for one night) and each one was more beautiful than the next. All gorgeous and wonderfully comfortable. Each is unique but all shared an elegance, along with lovely artwork. The staff is welcoming, helpful and very knowledgeable - always ready...

I am relaxing as I write, in my wonderful room at the Ambassade Hotel. This is my second stay at this hotel, and would gladly return. The EXCEPTIONAL service at check in, the well appointed spacious room, met me and my husband tired from travel. As a return guest we were pleasantly surprised with a complementary room upgrade, a hand...

My husband daughter and a friend have just returned from 2 nights at this hotel, it was great. It's Ina perfect location for accessing the sights of the city and is on the 1 of the main canals. The staff were very friendly and helpful and offered to book local attractions for us. We had 2 rooms, a deluxe superior...

I booked rather late on a special deal. Had asked for an upper floor room with a canal view but did not expect that it would be possible. Upon my arrival, I was shown to a superb room on the 3rd floor - with a canal view! I am always impressed by the excellence of the service and the beauty...

I stayed at the Ambassade several times before the expansion of the library, the addition of a bar, and the addition of a restaurant. I have always loved the hotel, and I love it even more now that there's a bar and restaurant. To stay in this hotel is to feel like you're living in a silken cocoon. The decor...

Great hotel with nice library, bar and tea room. Great service and rooms with views of the canal if you book early. Doors actually open up to canal! Wow in fall. They have recently remodeled to expand bar and restaurant. We didn't eat at the restaurant but heard from guests it was excellent. You could just stay here and have...

Excellent hotel located on the Herengracht, right in the canal district. The rooms are in canal houses, adding some serious authenticity to the place. It also means you have a private entrance to your room, which makes coming and going easy and feels like you're living right on the canal. The service from the staff could not have been better,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 57 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The Ambassade Hotel has a bar and restaurant/brasserie called 'Brasserie Ambassade' that specialises in the classical French kitchen. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colourful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous CoBrA movement. ... more   less
