Gorgeous hotel in the middle of Amsterdam. Beautiful rooms and very nice staff. The service was over the top. We can recommend the Freddy's bar for a quiet drink late at night. We won't bother looking for another hotel in Amsterdam ever again!

Wonderful property, Luxurious and Grand without being overwhelming. ideally situated, within easy walking of all major landmarks, museums, attractions and shopping areas. Although we found Amsterdam quite a stressful city, with pedestrians being made to feel somewhat of an inconvenience as we ventured out to explore the city, this is a perfect oasis of tranquility. Right from arriving at the door, we were made to feel incredibly welcome and at home. Often hotels struggle to find the balance between offering luxury and...

Recently completed my annual one week business related stay and was again quite pleased. This centrally located hotel is of a high quality standard, with eclectic rooms and roomy baths. Public spaces are well appointed and not overly large (which I see as a positive). Staff is professional and courteous. Not inexpensive, but fairly priced for a property of this...

This hotel had an €80 Million renovation. Wow the blend of old Victorian grandeur with tasteful modern amenities. The hotel has unique charm from the Bellmen greeting you at the door to the canvases on the walls. The hotel has fragrance in the lobby and hallways which and decor of the suites I imagine transport you to old Amsterdam. Also...

A fantastically classy old school hotel in a great location with a two Michelin star restaurant. Very expensive, but fabulous. Went for their New Years Great Gatsby party which was excellent. 10 course dinner in the Bordeaux restaurant. Rooms are good, service fantastic and wonderful feel and ambience. Will be back in the summer to check it out.

I have just returned from De L'Europe and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of going there. I went with my 4.5 year old son. The staff were very friendly to him, and helped me to get organised (taxi, pre buying tickets for the zoo). The pool is a bonus too. It I a small pool (as would...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
