A beautiful hotel - perfectly situated. The staff are all professional and friendly we found everything was first class and just to our liking. We were there on Kings Day and the hotel looked stunning. Our room was lovely, Nespresso machine, fabulous bed. Beautiful bathroom with walk in shower and heated floor - I counted 18 towels from huge bath...

A wonderful hotel - beautiful decor, spacious and very well appointed rooms (even to the heated floor in the bathroom and Nespresso coffee machine.) Very professional and friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. I suppose at around £200 per person per night it should be but of course this hotel is the Amsterdam equivalent of the London Ritz We...

This hotel has a great location and the service was top notch. The room was spacious and had every amenity you could want. Ours had a Nescafé machine and the housekeeping staff left us plenty of refills so we could have a cup anytime of the day not just first thing in the morning. The breakfast was wonderful with tables...

Just returned from another fabulous stay in Amsterdam at the Hotel de L'Europe. As usual, we were treated like family and greeted by name by all. A beautiful, well located and very well run hotel. The place to stay while in Amsterdam.

I actually was there June 3, 2016 for a special birthday dinner at the hotels Michelin starred restaurant. It was spectacular and much cheaper than other Michelin star properties in France. $250 for 2. We didn't drink alcohol however. The service was intelligent, attentive without being intrusive, incredible food with very creative touches and beautiful presentations. The hotel is on...

This is just an outstanding hotel in an excellent location. Be forewarned it is somewhat expensive but you get what you pay for. It was Easter weekend and they had live chicks in the lobby which was a nice touch. The service in Freddy's was unusually slow but maybe it was an off night. Great hotel. Bell guys are awesome.

Stayed here on the first stop of a tour of the Low Countries. Great hotel albeit pricey. Nice spa, bar and restaurant. Suite on the top floor was excellent and roomy. Nice views and centrally located.

What a wonderful hotel. Couldn't fault our stay at all. Even though everything is to such a high standard and so classy it is so comfortable and welcoming. The staff really do make this hotel what it is. Loved sitting in the lobby in the evening and having a swim in the pool in the morning.

We had an impromptu overnight stay in Amsterdam as our flight was delayed. We opted to stay at De L'Europe as is looked so attractive. We were upgraded on arrival and a bottle of wine was waiting for us in the beautiful room. It was very quiet and we were the only people in the restaurant. Very relaxing eating with...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
