I've been lucky enough to visit Amsterdam a few times, we stayed in the Rho Hotel back in February 2013. The hotel itself is pretty clean and comfortable, the bar isn't really anything to write home about, but due the amazing location (literally in Dam Square), it wasn't an issue! The staff were very attentive and relaxed. Breakfast is a...

We stayed at the Rho hotel at the begining of June, the location was great we could walk to many places, we bought a 2 day transit pass, as suggested by the very helpful people at the front desk. This was a great investment, we went all over, also as suggested we walked the Jordann area of Amsterdam on Sunday...

You could not ask for a more convenient touring location, just a matter of feet from the Dam Square city center. We checked in hours before the official time and they accommodated us. We asked for quiet rooms, so we didn't have a view, but the peaceful sleep was well worth it. The staff, excepting one gentleman, were very friendly...

It has been said by many before but the key to this place is location which is beyond excellent. You will find this hotel no matter how late you get back. Staff are perfectly adequate but a bit on the formal side. We stayed on the top floor and II would recommend this as you are up above the rooftops...

The name of the game is the location. The Hotel is located in Nes street just near the dam square- not hard to find and has available parking to reserve. Me and my mom went for a business trip to Netherlands and Belgium, and for the finale we had 3 days to spend in Amsterdam. This is not my first...

The first thing to comment on with this hotel is undoubtedly its location, right off Dam square in the centre of Amsterdam. This meant we were close enough to everything that is going on and still got a good nights sleep as the hotel is just down a side street off the square so there was no noise from the...

My husband and I stayed two nights before our Baltic cruise in May and could not have been happier with Rho. It was so easy to walk with our luggage from the train station and we were near everything. Our room was spotless, bed was comfortable, and breakfast buffet was huge. It was a little noisy outside our window but...

This hotel is almost on Dam square in central Amsterdam, so is ideally situated for the city. 15 min walk to Central station, although the tram stop is 200m away if you don't want to walk. The hotel is scrupulously clean, and the room I had was of good size. The quilt on the bed was a very odd shape...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
