to be honest the pictures probably look better but in terms of price, location & ease of moving around central amsterdam - can't get better. Staff were friendly & helpful and it was a great base. Would recommend looking on a number of sites as I made excellent savings on this booking with ba.com - yep fell off my chair...

The Rho is centrally located and it is not that great a distance from the Central Rail Station, as we found. The rooms are clean and nothing fancy, and it suited us perfectly. Breakfast is included in the booking, and the meal was lovely. There were a couple of hiccups with the room, but only small ones that were of...

The Rho is clean, neat and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included and very good! I had a room on the inside court, so it was very quiet but didn't get much natural light. The location is excellent, central to many places I wanted to go, including the tram and central station. My room was very basic, nothing...

we stayed at the RHO hotel for 3 nights the last week in march. we found the hotel to be centrally located off Dam square and good value for the money. while not everything was perfect; is room safe not working, telephone dialing directory lacking, we would recommend the hotel to those interested in exploring the various neighborhods of the...

As of working with Dutch firms since the 90's, have stayed at the RHO hotel many times during last ~20 years upon Amsterdam stop-by intervals - the unbeatable location is certainly the real advantage of the hotel (at the DAM square, the center of Amsterdam - most attractions are with walking distance), the stuff is nice & helpfull and the...

Just what you need when you arrive in a strange city after a very long flight - welcoming, friendly staff that get you to your room as quickly as possible without any fuss. The room was quite small but it was clean, comfortable and quiet - perfect for what we wanted to do - have a good shower and go...

Upon walking in a was a bit worried, the lobby is bizzare. Its an old theater, which is awesome, but the decor is cold, outdated and just plaid odd. I felt better upon checking in when the staff at the front desk RAVED about how great our rooms where despite our late check-in. I realized when I arrived at my...

We only spent one night there unfortunately. We are halfway through a 4 week European journey. After cramped London hotels the Rho was a real pleasure. Our room was spacious, but quite spartan in decor. ( but had everything we needed in excellent working order). It faced into the courtyard - so it was quiet , and was lovely and...

This hotel is just off Dam Square in a good location. Rooms are comfortable and breakfast pretty good. All in all a good spot for a few days in Amsterdam.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
