Don't bother. The room was dark and dingy, lamp fittings were falling apart the 'breakfast' was atrocious. You can get better elsewhere.

What a disappointment after reading the reviews here... Our room was simply awful and breakfast consisted of only bread with the option 3 jams... booking should have said "breadfast included", WIFI was extremely poor quality! I've just come off 6 weeks in Europe (Paris, London, Barcelona, Prague, Istanbul, Venice, etc) and this was by far the worst hotel ($ for...

The location is great - short walk from the train even with heavy luggage. Price (€100) was good for downtown Amsterdam. The hotel staff was helpful, friendly and knowledgable. (Great tip for local restaurant.) Basic room - well worn. Clean and airy. Bathroom good. Breakfast was a bit meager by our experiences in the Netherlands. Be ready to climb stairs....

We paid about £90 a night which seemed good value for Amsterdam. Room was small but adequate, but bathroom very small. Paintwork looking very tired. Nice view overlooking canal. No breakfast, but there was free toast in morning and a free coffee machine available all day which was great. Staff were all very friendly which made for a nice 4...

I've stayed in a plethora of hotels and hostels in Amsterdam, and Chic & Basic is, by far, the best. Admittedly, it is a tad more expensive than your average hostel in Amsterdam, but the hotel is centrally located, close to Centraal, and within a stone's throw of any trouble you might want to find in this city. The rooms...

The day we arrived was a hot one and when we arrived we asked if there was a cold drinks machine or anywhere we could get a drink only to be told no, and no information on any bars near by, went to our rooms which where tiny, but clean. Breakfast is toast and jam

You are in Amsterdam, how much are you REALLY in your room?? If you are looking for a luxurious hotel with spa services and a fab breakfast look to another hotel, but if your needs are those that are basic for a good price, then this is your place. It's quirky, and the staff was good fun, overall we will...

I booked into Chic and Basic after reading positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, my experience was not nearly as good. The staff were repeatedly rude, our room was shabby, unclean and noisy and it was very expensive. Upon arrival we were ignored by the receptionist who carried on a lengthy informal phone conversation and made no apology for making us...

We were looking for a place to spend our first two nights in Europe - and to adjust to the time change. Didn't want anything to fancy, because we knew we'd either be sleeping or out site seeing. Wanted something close by to the train station that wasn't in the Red Light District nor in a location that had too...

The main points of this hotel are the location and it's staff. They are so helpfull!!! The hotel hall is beatiful and the size room is very nice. Only two points: - be prepared to hold on your lugage up stairs; - the bedroom could be better cleaned, unfortunately.
