I had visited the hotel 5 years ago and I was so pleased with the service and everything, that I went to visit again. To ensure a canal view room, I made my reservation 5 months before my visit. I still have the e-mail that specifies it and the reply on behalf of the hotel that ensures me on the...

A lovely unpretentious hotel, friendly staff, quiet clean room, simple modern furnishings and the website description is accurate. We had a room on the third floor with canal views and it was worth paying a little more for this. It was exactly what we'd hoped for.

Situated less than 5 minutes walk away from Amsterdam Centraal Train Station, this hotel was perfect my boyfriend and I's short weekend away. Hotel staff on reception were extremely friendly and helpful, offering recommendations for the best coffee houses and restaurants in town. The fact that the reception is open 24/7 is also a plus. Breakfast was downstairs in a...

Nice clean and as the name says basic hotel, no frills but it's got all you need. We got the XL room and it is massive! A bit of a climb to our room so not for the unfit, only have to go up to the room a couple of times a day anyway. Good location close to the central...

This is a very basic place -- and that is all. Close to the central train station and facing a nice canal (but with lots of rooms in the back, with no view, and steep steps up to the 3rd floor). Got a tiny room and the toilet was outside the room, with no heating in cold winter -- even...

Our stay at Chic and Basic Amsterdam was really wonderful. The design is not as pictured, because I think they still plan to update the rooms in the future (this is the only reason for a 4 and not a 5 star review--because I feel as though they should put up pictures of the REAL rooms that you'll be staying...

Our room had not yet been updated to the Chic and Basic style, so I cannot comment on what the better rooms looked like, but our room was clean and completely comfortable and fine -- didn't seem old and grungy at all. The beds are comfy and linens are nice. We also had the bonus of a private outdoor patio...

The hotel is very well located, we could go anywhere by foot. Our room had a nice view on the canal and was clean but it was not as design as the pictures on the website (we chose the vintage room, that's why I think). However i really enjoyed my stay, especially the nice staff, the free breakfast (hot beverages and...

Chic & Basic Amsterdam came recommended from a friend who travels solo frequently (as I do too). He told me about its great location and that he would recommend it to me. I read the reviews and saw commenters that fell into two distinct categories: *Those who felt the product was over promising (perhaps that was the Chic in the...

A short walk from the train station led us to this great hotel along the historical Herengracht. Reception staff was always friendly and keen to help. Some may say that the breakfast is too limited, but for myself and for the price I had to pay for my two night stay bread with butter and jam plus a wide selection...
