Value
Our small hotel is situated in a beautiful canal-house that is over 300 years old, nestled on the quiet, picturesque Singel, the oldest of the four major ring canals in Amsterdam's famed inner city. Our cosy hotel offers an oasis right in the centre of town. The hustle and bustle of the shopping streets around Dam Square, the charm of the myriad canals lined with 17th-century houses and world famous sights, such as the Anne Frank House, are all literally steps away. There are also convenient trams and other public transport options to whisk you off to all of the city's many attractions. Room information: the hotel offers 13 double and single rooms and one triple room. We serve a good continental breakfast-buffet in our light and pleasant breakfast room. Rooms are ready for check in at 14.00 o'clock. If you arrive earlier we can store your luggage until then. We look forward to have you as our guests!

My partner booked this and I was very worried after reading some of the reviews but, I was pleasantly surprised.
Friendly staff, free freshly squeezed orange, soft drinks and coffees all day which is a bonus.
Breakfast is a bit poor , they could do more but I’m happy with a croissant , banana and a couple of coffees!
The bedrooms could do with updating but saying that, they bed was so comfortable, fresh soft white cotton duvets and pillows, we slept so well. We had a big fan and opened the windows so it was lovely and cool (there is no aircon) but it was fine (and was hot that weekend).
The location is perfect, 7min walk to Dam Square.
I would definitely go back there again.
Nice, clean, friendly, quaint hotel in a perfect location.

We stayed for 4 night in October 2014. The location is ideal and the hotel is clean and quiet but the canal facing twin room and en-suite was small. Stairs are very steep and the stair carpet could do with replacing and the landings decorating. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good. The location means that you can easily walk/tram to all central Amsterdam districts. It is also an easy walk from the train station to the hotel, keep to the right out of the station if you want to avoid the Red Light district.

Stayed for 5 nights in November 14 at the hotel. Steps to the room are really steep so you need to be able to climb up and down to stay here! The room was clean but small. People were friendly and the hotel is very central for all sightseeing. It is just a few minutes walk from Dam square and about 10 mins to Leidesplein. So for the price it is definitely worth it as the location is great.

Appalling service, we was unable to travel due to Coronavirus, our flights was cancelled by easyJet who issued a full refund. This place and the owner handled it terribly, very arrogant and very patronising. Told us we must pay a cancellation fee even though we can’t physically get to the country, very hard to get in touch with. If you want a hotel that cares about its customers then definitely avoid this place. One of the worst places I’ve ever dealt with in my life. AVOID

I wish I'd checked the reviews more carefully, in which case I wouldn't have stayed here.
Even as a solo traveller I expected at least a queen bed, no indication that I'd be 4 flights up narrow stairs with luggage and a room the size of cubicle. Taty decor, tired and in need of re-decorating. Window hard to open , opposite another hotel and all their rooms, stifling hot. Crap water pressure that totally stopped in the afternoon, so bad you had to dance around the tiny shower to get wet. The soft mattress was dreadful and worse the room had 1 set of steel bunk beds? Seriously? Pluses were the staff who were young and helpful, the breakfast was fine and a nice surprise was the fresh orange juice. The cost of the room was way too expensive for this low standard. Would I stay here again? Not in a hairy pink fit!

This was a bad experience from the very start. The sign on the main entrance door stated ‘if no one is at reception please use other door but beware of the cats’ RED FLAG. One we got to the room via a dangerously steep stairs, we were disappointed in what we saw. The room was tiny. The en-suite door could not open fully because it was hitting the bed. Nowhere to hang our clothes apart from a few hooks on the wall. The room looked so dated, it was like a cheap bed sit from the 70’s. At that point we made our mind up to leave and luckily we were able to book another hotel just down the street at great additional cost.

There was a mouse in our room. Staff seemed to be reading off a script about the mouse problem clearing indicating this is a reoccurring problem. Wifi only worked in the lobby which was only open til 11pm. Bathroom was nice and comfortable bed.

The hotel is located in a nice area, close to the center town, in a peaceful environment. That's for the good news. But ...
No one there when you arrive. We someone finally opens, you find out the hotel is being refurbished. No breakfast available (but we paid for them), no toilet paper in the room, television does not work, carpet was dirty. They finally accepted to change our room to have the television.
I'm still waiting for the credit for the breakfast...
City of Amsterdam is nice, that's the good part of the week-end.

Our room was in a terrible state of affairs. We were sold a family room, however, the size of the room was extremely small and impossible to have been sold as a family room. Its not even big enough for 1 double bed. The room was not 100% clean and the bathroom needs a major revamp. No air conditioner was available in the room. The cupboard is extremely small and more of an unkept antique that anything else. The bathroom was tiny and ours had a cracked basin. The bathroom curtain was extremely dirty and unhygienic. We stayed on the 1st floor and the hotel has no elevator. Therefore, to go to our room we needed to climb extremely steep stairs which are not safe at all. Safety is therefore a serious issue. On the 2 days we were there we were woken up, at 7h30am every morning, with heavy noises (drilling and hammering noises) from the construction site that is exactly next door. It was therefore impossible NOT to be woken up. All in all a terrible experience and not recommended.

We had a 3 night stay in Amsterdam and used 'Rick Steves' as a guide for this hotel and our time in Amsterdam. The Hotel room was on the 4th floor, overlooking the canal. It was small but clean. The stairs are steep but Jay assisted us with the luggage both up and down the stairs. The room was quiet except for Saturday night when the party boats went by and some very drunk, very noisy people wandered the street. The hotel location was wonderful, within walking distance of the major sights. Breakfast was basic but well presented. We did use the safe in the office as there was not one in the room. We dealt mainly with Jay and he was very helpful, very pleasant. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again.
