...because of the steep stairs. Positive things in the hostel were meeting nice people, very friendly staff (they made the best drinks we've ever and they still make you drunk, lol) and comfy beds. The negative sides of the hostel were there was no elevator (and you wish for it especially if you stay in the highest floor like we...

This is a cheap hostel so don't get your expectations too high. The staff is helpful and they gave us tips when we asked what we should see in Amsterdam. The room key is an electronic wristband so it's easy to keep it with you all the time. There are lockers in the rooms, but you have to leave 10...

I guess because I experienced a hostel in Brussels which set a pretty good standard, that coming to Amsterdam and sleeping in an 18 bedrooms doom with no A/C or fan was def a deal breaker. However, the hostel does exactly what it needs to accommodate your stay. When I went, it was a younger crowd. Upon entering the room,...

I couldn't ask for a better hostel for my week in Amsterdam! Really organized, affordable and a warm, friendly atmosphere.I stayed in a mixed dorm of 18 people and although I was anxious at first, I eventually never had a problem. Sheets and bathroom(shared) were always clean, there is breakfast provided for 2,50 euros, open bar 24/7 and separatte smoking room....

This hostel is absolutely for the open-minded! If you want an affordable place to stay, with awesome staff, a young, friendly atmosphere and great location this is the place. No - it's not a five star hotel. But I've gotten better service here than in nicer hotels in Chicago, where I'm from and have worked in. I met so many...

Fantastic hostel for the price! Very central location, with a sociable and cheap bar and clean toilet facilities. Friendly staff are always eager to help, and it's only a 5 minute walk from the station. My friend and I were staying in the largest room (18 bed dorm), and although the beds were basic, we found the room to be...

-Transport is easy because Amsterdam central train/tram station is 1 minute walk away. Can buy a 3 day transport card for €25. We walked most places but used trams to visit the parks -Hostel is pretty standard; great staff and friendly vibe. There is a smoking room that overlooks the canal which is bliss (photo below)

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
