A lakeside boutique hotel frayed by tall grasses, laundered linen whispering in the wind and a row of gabled, clapboard houses in misty hues skirting along the water’s edge. Here is a time-stood-still hamlet, home to a handful of former fisherfolk, charming architecture, sail boats, coots, and our new 14 room hotel and restaurant.

De Durgerdam is a cracking boutique hotel a short distance from Amsterdam. It’s still really new so everything feels beautifully fresh and it’s all been done to a high standard. There were some tiny teething problems when we visited but nothing that affected our stay. I think it’d be helpful to have better signage showing the main entrance. Also, and this is really picky, it’s be good to have milk in the rooms for tea/coffee or have a note to say it could be requested.
If you’re there in sunny weather it’d be absolutely fantastic and you probably wouldn’t want to visit Amsterdam! However, if you do want to go into the city just be aware it’s around 40euros for a cab (both ways), however the hotel does hire out bikes (inc electric). The staff were all exceptionally friendly and professional and keen to ensure we had a good stay.

Dear R2062MSmicheller, Thank you for your kind review and taking the effort to share your experience with us and others. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that you noticed the quality of our special place and the friendliness of our team. As for milk in the room, our apologies that this was not mentioned during the in-rooming because it is our pleasure to bring fresh milk upon request. Rain or shine Durgerdam is magical to visit, however we agree that al fresco dining on the terrace or a refreshing dip in the lake, is the best when it's sunny. We will wish for sunny spells for your next visit! Kind regards, De Durgerdam

What a beautiful small luxury hotel. Not far from Amsterdam center We stayed in this little jewel in March. The rooms were cozy and very comfortable. The beds are super comfy. I could only suggest a little more light in the bathroom. A nice touch is a footlight, that only lights up when you get out of bed during the night. The decoration is not over the top, but very tasteful. Inspired by the location. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was delicious. The staf was very helpful and friendly. Parking is available at a short distance from the hotel. The location must be even more attractive in the summer, when the jetty will be transformed in a terrace and people with a boat can more there to have lunch or dinner. We highly recommend this hotel and look forward to stay there again in the summer and see the garden, which was not completely finished when we were there in March.

Stayed here for 2 nights (17th-19th September) as part of our honeymoon. This is a lovely hotel, very quiet with gorgeous views over the water. Amsterdam is around 15 mins' drive away. If you don't drive or take Ubers then it's a bit of a trek (we just took Ubers as it was a special occasion). We booked the De Maan suite which was fabulous - it was the only room at De Durgerdam with a bathtub and has views on all 4 sides and overlooking the water. Being up on the top floor, there is no noise from other rooms. Especially loved the bed in a wee nook, it was very cosy. The staff left some locally brewed alcoholic drink for us to try which was very kind.

The only reason I can't give 5/5 is the breakfast which was a massive letdown. Firstly, if you want anything cooked then you have to pay extra, which given the cost of adding breakfast is not great. All we got on the first morning was a croissant each, on the second day just a slice of bread each. I would suggest offering something more substantial - at the very least more continental options e.g. meats and cheeses, cereal etc.

So we had a very lovely stay in Amsterdam, this hotel is lovely but breakfast needs to be improved.

We are thrilled to read that our special lakeside hideaway played a part in your honeymoon, and that you enjoyed your time with us. The Maan is a unique room and the views are what storybooks are made of. Secondly, thank you for sharing your feedback regarding breakfast. Our Durgerdam breakfast, which consists of a croissant, coffee of choice and juice is included in the room rate and other dishes can indeed be added upon request. We will discuss your feedback with the team and hope to pleasantly surprise you the next time you visit! Kind regards, De Durgerdam

Friends that live down the road from this quaint seaside village recommended staying at De Durgerdam. It was one of the nicest, coziest, cleanest boutique hotels I’ve ever stayed in. We had room 13, a 2-room suite overlooking the private dock and ocean. Our suite boasted a dining table, sitting area next to wood burning stove, 2 bathrooms, 2 coffee/tea bars, 2 TVs, lots of closest space and a king-sized bed with linens that made you not want to get out of bed. (Down pillows were a little too overstuffed so maybe a flatter pillow option would be good). I have to say something about the shower… the rain shower was probably the best shower ever, I dream about that shower!
The service was terrific. And the food…. It was so fresh and delicious. The strawberry jam at breakfast with the fresh croissants and farmer’s butter was my favorite. (I could drink that jam!) wish they jarred and sold it. (Hint, hint).
The weather was blustery so being inside with all the cozy textiles, warm ambience, and wood burning fire made you want to camp-out inside all day.
They offer manual and electric bikes for guests at nominal fee. And every room is appointed with quality raincoats.
We will definitely be back!

Your kind words warm our heart - and that is exactly what we do it for! The elegant design of the rooms is the work of the Amsterdam-based design studio Buro Belen, who have turned this 17th Century lakehouse into a space to offer exclusive heritage experience and comfortable luxury for a fantastic night's sleep. And the picture-perfect views... that is the magic of Durgerdam (no matter what weather it is)! We will share your kind words with our team in De Mark, thank you. Looking forward to welcome you back! A very elegantly decorated small hotel with lovely, friendly & knowledgeable staff.
We took advantage of a winter deal for 2 nights and it was lovely to have a full day to relax and take in the surrounding countryside by hiring electric bikes from the hotel. The food at the restaurant is lovely; although if you can’t eat (or don’t like fish or seafood) then you are limited in your choice esp for main courses (3 choices). …& watch out if you order water; still tap water = 8euro for 2 glasses - ooft!
The rooms are really beautifully decorated & designed; the beds & bedding are really comfortable; also included are a welcome drink, a yoga mat & dumbbells . Our room was not cleaned or the bed remade during our stay which was disappointing for a hotel of this calibre.
The included breakfast was very mean and the absolute minimum they cld provide - 1 small croissant & the meanest little pot of jam to share, a glass of fruit juice and a coffee! The amount of jam was funny it was so small! … & if you have another coffee with breakfast you’re charged for that too!
We really did enjoy our stay though, it’s beautiful, the surrounding area is stunning & it must be fabulous in the summer on the lake, and being so close to the city and yet such a different and relaxing vibe it’s a lovely addition to a trip to Amsterdam.

We took a short 2 day break from London to celebrate my wife's birthday. Travelling by Eurostar got us to The Durgerdam in time to enjoy a wonderful lunch sitting outside in the sun by the lake front. We had a brilliant room with direct access to a small garden. The rooms, the restaurant and the outside space are beautifully designed, fitting well with the lovely architecture of the seafront village. We hired bikes to cycle into Amsterdam in 30min, and we also cycled in the other direction along the water to experience nature and wildlife. The people working at the Durgerham are enthusiastic about providing and excellent experience for their guests. We had a brilliant time there and enjoyed it as a special treat!

This is where metropolitan and cultural bubbling Amsterdam meets small town fisherman fairytales. Every detail of the hotel breathes history and design, without feeling forced. My favorite element is the staircase, it is the original one... When you're done marveling at the sheer beauty of where you are, you can start enjoying the next level hospitality. There is nothing you can order that I wouldn't recommend, it is star level cooking, served with Amsterdam nonchalance, I love it. And if you get a chance, order the whiskey sour. Trust me.

My wife and I stayed here the end of October 2023 and had an incredible experience! The room was very spacious, well appointed and the bed was comfortable! We had a nice waterfront view. The hotel is set a bit outside from central Amsterdam but perfect for anyone that wants to stay on outskirts. The surrounding area was very quaint. The restaurant located within the hotel was excellent as well- ate breakfast there three times and enjoyed the food tremendously. Had dinner one night and it was also delicious! The hotel also rents out nice bikes - we were able to take a nice bike ride into town.

We highly recommend staying here!

This is the perfect hideaway from Amsterdam. Just 30 minutes bike ride from Amsterdam Centraal and yet you feel hundreds of miles away. The design is elegant, the food is excellent, the service is friendly and personalized. We loved everything about it and would recommend it a thousand times to anyone wanting an escape to peaceful nature with elegance and style without any kind of pretentious show-off. I can't wait to go back... As an escapade that you can walk to, I loved the Melk Tap at a close by farm where the little farm shop is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week entirely based on trust as you pay for what you take, including amazing fresh milk from the surrounding cows in the open fields. The meat, eggs, and strawberries were also excellent. Biking around the hotel in the open fields is a delight. Same for swimming in the sea lake by the hotel.

Dear Michele, Thank you for taking the time to write down these beautiful words and we are happy to read that you enjoyed your stay at De Durgerdam and your visit to the Melk Tap. Coming to Durgerdam, that was once a home to a handful former fisherfolk, is a real treat and the perfect escape to wind down at ease. It's a wonderful opportunity to explore the hinterlands of Amsterdam - and what better way to do this the Dutch way? There is so much to see! Maybe, next time you have the opportunity to visit nearby traditional Dutch villages or some great seasonal restaurants. Our team will be more than happy to assist you in anything you would like to see. Kind regards, De Durgerdam

We really enjoyed our short break to this unusual and charming hotel. It is set in the small village of Durgerdam looking out over the water which gives it a whimsical, slightly surreal feel. We spent a day cycling around the beautiful countryside on the hotels electric bikes and a day exploring the city of Amsterdam. The area is a delight to cycle around and Amsterdam is easily reached by bike or taxi. The hotels strong point is definitely the lovely staff. Nothing is too much trouble and any issues are dealt with promptly and with a smile. We enjoyed our meal sitting on the deck by the water. Would definitely recommend for a different experience in Amsterdam.
