I stayed in this hostel for 3 nights, and it was the worst experience of my life. I was open minded about the hostel due to the mixed reviews, but I can honestly say I have never stayed anywhere so disgusting before in my life. I didn't sleep or the entire stay, the room was infested with insects and bed...

This hostel had a great central location that made getting around to pub crawls and clubs very convenient, but was not the nicest property. Rooms were as expected, but we just got unlucky with the others in our shared room. Streets are pretty loud and were busy on both sides of the building, so that's just part of the experience!...

If you're looking for a nice clean place to stay and get a good night's sleep I would not suggest it. HOWEVER, if you're looking to party close to your bed, the downstairs bar is a good time. Good location. Maybe not the cleanest.

Visited with 4 other friends and for £10 a night I cannot complain. Very clean and would definitely return. Discount at the Irish bar was an added bonus too as the food was nice and good drink selection.

Well, where do I begin with this place? It is not fit to be open to the public and I could not wait to leave this absolute hovel of a hostel. It isn't suitable for animals never mind paying customers. When we arrived the receptionists tried to take our passports which we refused. We walked three floors up to our...

The location is right in the middle of things which is great, however, the staff members are rude and don't want to assist in any way. We had issues just storing our luggage here. It was overpriced and dirty. If you can, go anywhere else before booking here.

The hostel is in a brilliant location to some tourists sites as well as a ten minute walk to the Central station and tram lines. We got a 14 bedroom dorm which probably wasn't the best idea with people coming and going all night -expected. Church beside the hostel bells ring every 30mins from 6am really annoy! Showers basic and...

We'll start with the serious points: 14 bed room, boiling warm so had to keep window open and endure the annoying sound of church bells every half hour from 6am, whilst hungover. When one person is up, everyone's up. No sleep. #hereforthesesh Toilets n showers smell due to sharing with about 1 million people. Cleaners take pictures of your mess,...

Came here with my friend on the first stop while interrailing. Hostel is small but for the price it is decent. We became friends with everyone in our dorm plus more which meant that we got to really experience Amsterdam properly! People at the desk also happy to help. Only one complaint is that the maids were seriously noisy in...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
