The room was tiny, but that wasn't the problem. We spent all day visiting the city so we didn't plan to stay long in the room anyway. However, the room was also very dirty and that was super annoying. The sheets and the towels had hair and stains even if it looked like they were being changed daily. We didn't...

We stayed here in December 2016, booked a twin room with a shared bathroom. before we arrived we read some pretty worrying reviews of this hotel and were dreading seeing what we had let ourselves in for. we checked in at the pub and were given directions to a building across the road. here we found our room on the...

I chose this hotel just because the very central location and the bargain price. However, I left it after two nights because really unconfortable. To get your room you must enter a pub that gives you the key. From a little dreary door you joing the stairs leading you to the room. The corridors are dirty and full of old...

The room were really tiny, but pretty nice. The wifi did not work at all. It was strange getting in through a bar, and the hallways were dirty, but the rooms were clean and modern. They didn't allow you to leave with the keys, and thats something I didn't like. I payed for a room with free cancelation, but three...

Based ourselves here on a stag weekend. There were 8 (after we booked for 10 and two dropped out) of us and ended up in three rooms. The top floor was where the two rooms with 4 single beds. If you have any mobility issues these are not for you, steep stairs and three floors up. The rooms are great...

We stayed at Hotel Old Quarter over New Years Eve and wanted somewhere cheap and central so we could get back easily! The location is so central you walk out onto one of the main streets and you are about 5 minutes walk to Dam Square which suited us perfectly. There is a bar below the hotel that offers food...

Perfect location, heart of Amsterdam, close to train station, 10min walk, lot's of restaurant, clubs, shops etc. Toilet inside shower, not really comfortable but for short stay ok. Good for young people, debit or credit card required during check in for security purpose

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
