We were very happy throughout a week-long stay in our canal view room at misc eatdrinksleep. The room was spacious with enough room to walk around and to sit in a chair or at the desk during downtime. The large bed was extremely comfortable, and the pillows were of high quality, so we slept wonderfully. Occasional street noise was not...

A great little boutique hotel within walking distance of everything! Pepijn and Rachel were great hosts. There was a welcome bottle of prosecco, made to order breakfasts, and a constantly stocked mini bar and coffee maker. The canal view room was great. There was a white noise machine for use if the natives got too restless outside!

We've stayed a few time now and can't say enough good things about Hotel Misc! Rachel and Pepijn are great hosts who are both friendly, good humored, helpful and go out of their way to make sure their guests are well looked after! The rooms are clean, with beautiful linens and soft towels! The location is fabulous and the breakfasts...

Great location in Amsterdam. Red light district is just around the corner but far enough away not to see. Great bars in the neighborhood. Rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious by European standards. The hosts were wonderful and helpful in every way.

Rachel and Pepijn have a gorgeous hotel and also have an apartment to rent. We have stayed at both places multiple times and would highly recommend. Both are fantastic central locations. Walking distance everywhere and trams close by. There are stairs though so you need to be prepared to take your suitcase up the stairs (although most times Pepijn will...

My husband & I stayed 3 nights in early August. Hosts Rachel and Pepijn were helpful and attentive, securing advance tickets to Van Gogh Museum which moved us to the front of a long line-up. We stayed in the "Wonders" room, which was 1 flight up a narrow staircase, typical in Europe. The room was clean and bed was very...

We stayed in the Rembrant room here for a long weekend for my partner's 30th. The hotel was lovely, really kitch with beautiful flowers everywhere. The Rembrant room was a good size, with fully stocked mini-fridge with beer and soft drinks which was free. We had a canal room and didn't notice it as being noisy as other people have...

I've stayed here before, except this time they've added air conditioning to the front room I stayed in. The air conditioning was more than adequate at keeping the room cool, which meant I could keep the large canal view windows closed. As a result there were no summertime mosquitoes in my room and it was much, much quieter than if...

In 2007 I stayed at Hotel Misc for the first time, and for the last six years I could never imagine staying anywhere else. I can't say enough about this hotel and most of all, the owners, Rachel and Pepeijn, They are largely responsible for the way I feel about Amsterdam and the reason I go there so frequently. I...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.

“Our room, on the garden side, third floor was comfortably large and quiet. We could see a couple of carnival rides about six blocks away.”

“If you're an urban dweller, the canal-facing rooms won't seem too loud. As a New Yorker, I had no need of the white noise machine that was thoughtfully provided. The owners seem to think the quieter garden-view rooms in the rear are better, though, so if silence is important to you, try those. Be aware that there's no elevator and the steps are typically (for Amsterdam) steep and winding.”
