I booked a room with this hotel online through booking.com on 11th January 2012. While ‎doing that, I made a mistake, instead of booking myself on 19 I booked myself on 12th ‎Jan. 2012. After 7 minutes, I realized I made a mistake because the booking.com ‎webpage is tricky. I called booking.com and they said they explained the matter to...

Old as it was from 18th century. Dirty as like it has been cleaned properly in ages. Broken and torn items, on a rate of 0/10, the room was a 0. That bad. Servicedesk was unfriendly, rude, not helpful, especially the elderly men and women. Bar, strange enough they´re throwing parties in the bar downstairs like it is The Hilton!...

I have no complaints about the Hotel in general as the room and shared bathroom were clean and comfortable. The TV was functioning, there was sink in the room with a small window to let some fresh air in. Narrow staircase leading up to the rooms so those with bigger bags do be careful. Finding a cheap hotel in Amsterdam...

Me & my friends are in our late 20s & stayed at Hotel Barbacan as part of our European road trip. We found that the hotel offered great value for money, a friendly atmosphere & great location for walking into Amsterdam city centre (about 15 min walk). We had a 5 bed room with a small but perfectly usable bathroom,...

First of all, the room was horrible. The walls weren't even properly painted and outside the window was a great view of maybe 5-year-old cigarette butts. The receptionist was an uptight a-hole and had no trouble telling us that he's not supposed to respect us because we're the guests (?!?!?!) and that after calling my girlfriend stupid, because she said...

Could do better if I converted my front room. This place is a death trap. None of the electrics worked, the room was damp and musty and only one window opened as the handles had been removed. The whole place smelt of the large dog which was behind the counter downstairs. If all the park benches are full and you...

There are some really bad reviews about this place but if you want to spend as little as possible on a place to stay then this hotel is a good cheap option. we spent 4 days here but were out most of the time. The reception and the bar are very nice. The staff were very helpful with info about...

We stayed here 18/05 - 20/05/2011. We had a double room which had 1 x double bed and 2 x single beds which were comfy. Was spacious and cleaned daily. You get a sink in the room and the shared bathroom was on our floor (the top floor, there are around 5 floors so lots of stairs to walk up...

The only reason why we stayed here was because of the price and we quickly regretted it. Amsterdam can be a it expensive so we thought we would opt out of our 90 euro a night hotel and stay at this one for 50 euros, we thought "it's only one night...." We ended up riding our bikes most of the...

Don't go to this hotel. Terrible service and useless. I did book my rooms on line and then they cancel without even telling me. When I called them, they didn't want to tell the reason of the cancellation!

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
