All the reviews are right...this place is the best! My wife and I stayed at The Collector in August 2006 for part of our honeymoon. We stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay for a total of 5 days and found both to be very clean and spacious (especially compared to the tiny London hotel room we had just...

we had a nice & homely stay in amsterdam this april during the easter weekend in The Collector.Initially we had some misgivings about the do it yourself breakfast but karel assured us people liked it that way in his place & I must say it suited us enormously every day with the loaded fridge entirely at our disposal ! We stayed at The Collector for 8 days in late March/early April 2007 and were very pleased with our stay. The location was great being a short walk to the Rijks and Van Gogh musems and about a twenty minute walk to pretty much any other place that a tourist would be interested in going. There is also good bus...

Just a couple of blocks from the Amsterdam concert hall, and major museums, we had a delightful week staying at The Collector. Karel is an excellent host, ready with suggestions about restaurants and sightseeing. Our rooms were spacious, very clean and comfortable. We liked the breakfast room, stocked with food we prepared ourselves, including eggs from the chickens in the...

A great place to stay in Amsterdam - QUALITY, VALUE, LOCATION. A short walk to the art museums; tram to the Central Station stops in front of the building. Very large bedroom with modern bath; all very clean. Guest kitchen accessible at all times. At 110 Euro a night, no hotel could give you this level of accomodation at twice...

Our stay at the Collector was great. We had a very large room with very comfortable beds, its own balcony and a well-appointed bathroom. Karl provided fresh flowers for our room and lots of goodies for the do-it-yourself breakfast. Karl is a collector (hence the name) and our teenage daughter especially enjoyed the collections of spoons, clocks, honey jars, and...

My partner and I stayed at The Collector for three nights in early May and I can't say enough amazing things about it. Karel was a lovely, laid-back host who was always available for info, if needed. The location was perfect -- you're a beautiful 20 minute walk into the city centre, within 5 minutes walking distance to the museum...

Due to the winter storm on the east coast last week which closed many airports, my husband and I were unable to make it to Amsterdam in time for our reservation at The Collector. We were cutting it very close (by about 4 hours) to the 48 hour cancellation policy when we got in touch with Karel (via e-mail) about...

Have just returned from a three night stay at The Collector. I cannot speak too highly of our experience at this B&B, everything about it was "right" from our point of view - its location is perfect, right next to the major art museums and yet close enough to either walk into the centre of Amsterdam or to take the...

We stayed at The Collector for 4 nights from the 13th February and thought it was superb. The location is fantastic, the room and bathroom were spotless and the bed was one of the comfiest and largest we've ever slept in. We thought the diy breakfast arrangment was fantastic, we have a 7 year old son so the fact that...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Collector Bed and Breakfast offers bright, stylish and spacious rooms, each with its distinct own character: one decorated with Amsterdam School (Deco) furniture, the other one with Gispen Dutch Design classics. Both rooms have an ensuite bathroom. There's a guest kitchen for your breakfast around the clock. You will find a well stocked fridge, fresh fruits, a Nespresso coffee machine and lots more. Amenities include bath robes, a hair dryer, toiletries, a safety box, a guest computer to use for internet and email and there's even a bagage storage in case of early arrival or late departure. Here you will be able to freshen up, too. The house dates back to 1914 and is located just behind the Museum square with the Concert Hall (Concertgebouw), the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh and the Stedelijk Museum. The 17th century canal area is just a 10 minute walk from the B&B. There is direct bus line nearby for transfers from and to the airport. Your host Karel Poels is an active collector, who can tell about his different collections with lots of enthusiasm. You will find those collections in the guest rooms and the rest of the house: unique Dutch wooden skates, branded pins, chinaware, you name it! ... more   less
