We stayed just one night but were sooooo pleased with this hotel. Historic building, lovely decorations. Our room was very large by EU standards. Really comfy beds (though pillow was a bit too tall for my preference). Breakfast was amazing! Tons of pastries, amazing strawberries and cherries, hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, cheese, coffee, juice. Way too much for the 3 of us to finish. Owner was super friendly and even treated us to a mini piano concerto. Centrally located. Couldn’t be more pleased. Highly recommend.

This historic property exceeded our expectations. Room was large and appointed with quaint features that made us feel very much at home. The husband and wife proprietors went out of their way to make us feel welcome, providing tips around dining, sight seeing and the history of Hotel Lucca and Bruges in general. It was easy to walk from there to all points of interest. Breakfast was excellent, and service was outstanding. Would definitely stay there again.

Where do I even begin? Hotel Lucca is unquestionably one of the finest and most distinctive hotels that I have ever stayed in, and after 20+ years of travelling, this is not something that I say lightly. It has the wow factor from the very second that you set foot inside. It is like stepping back in time to a different century, the ambience is immediately felt. The reception area is more reminiscent of an 18th century parlour with it's resplendent decor and piano, the 14th century cellar that is used as the breakfast room is so very atmospheric, the corridors and stairways full of artefacts and tapestry are more akin to visiting a high-quality museum, and our room itself, with it's high ceiling, flowing curtains, chandelier, throne like chairs, and tapestry (again) were opulence personified. The bed was super comfortable, and the giant hot tub in the bathroom (and two sinks!) was a real treat. Breakfast was delicious and varied. You will find the sweetest cherry tomatoes imaginable, meats, cheeses, a beautiful selection of sweet pastries, and I must say, I enjoyed the pancakes very much on our last morning. But I am yet to mention the real star of the show. This was Hans, the owner. This man is a true gentleman, and could not have made us feel more welcome. He told us that he and his wife have been running Hotel Lucca for 20 years, also telling us about his working life in Paris prior to that. A very, very interesting man with many stories to tell. He even lent us a copy of a book that he had co-authored a few years earlier about the history of Bruges, which was also very interesting and easy to understand. I get the impression that Hotel Lucca is more of a labour of love for Hans rather than a business venture, and the biggest compliment that I can pay, is to say that at no point did our stay feel as if we were stopping in a hotel, it felt as if we were guests in someone's home (which of course, we were). We were also very fortunate that during our stay, Hans' friend Robert (another fine gentleman) was also visiting. Robert is a cellist, and Hans is a pianist. They spent many hours during our stay practicing classical music in the reception area, for an upcoming concert. The sound was beautiful, and we were treated to our own personal performance, a moment that brought a tear to my eye, which I will remember forever. The city itself is terrific, a beautifully traditional Utopia of a bygone age, untouched by modernity, full of character and handily a mere 5 minute walk from the hotel to the centre, with it's cobbled streets, lovely bars and chocolate shops. However, in years to come when I look back upon my visit to Bruges, I can't help thinking that even taking into account the many charms of this wonderful city, it will be my visit to the Hotel Lucca that I remember above all else.

Definitely stay here if you travel to Bruges. The location is great; on a relatively quiet street but only a 5-minute walk from the center of town. Our room was large and lovely and inexpensive (might change in season; we were there in January). The actual building is centuries old and has old world charm. But the best part of this hotel is the owner/operator. This is a small family owned hotel and the owner provides a local flavor that you don’t want to miss. He met us at the door when we arrived at 8pm. The hotel was not busy and he spent a lot of time talking to us about Bruges, Belgium and lots of other topics. He gave us good advice about our visit and even a list of his favorite things to see in Amsterdam, our next stop. Breakfast is in a room from the 14th century, and was a lovely spread. The light in our room was a bit dim for reading and we could have used a box of tissues, but nothing small will detract from your good feelings about this hotel. You will feel immersed in the old world charm of Bruges at Hotel Lucca. Try to be in town on a Wednesday for the weekly market in the main square.
