We stayed for one night as my dad was coming to visit. Having read the reviews prior to our stay I was a little cautious about what to expect. Yes the rooms are small and yes the house is in need of some tlc.. BUT two things made the stay very good! The first was the food, we ate in the restaurant Saturday night and the food was delicious. Pate and Brie for starter, Steak and Salmon for main and chocolate fudge cake for desert. All dishes presented beautifully and tasted amazing! The best thing about our stay though, was definitely the bar and waiting staff. A special thank and you mention needs to go to Tom, Baris, Amber and Katie. Their service and dinner and in the evening at the bar was second to none. They made us feel very welcome and were great company, a credit to the hotel. A mention need to go to Finley also, who served us breakfast, he was welcoming and friendly and very happy to help. In short, these guys (and girls) helped to make our stay a fun, enjoyable and memorable one! Thank you…
Stayed here 2 nights as our daughter has booked her wedding in 2 years here and was very excited to show us it. The hotel from the exterior and the grounds are absolutely fabulous along with the orangery and library. I can see when she saw it earlier with the massive fire lit how lovely it could be. On arrival the previous guest had taken the key to our room so the young receptionist was trying to sort this for us and find a spare. She also provided pillow cases for the pillows as there were none. Clearly this is a housekeeping issue rather than a busy young receptionist role who admitted she was new to the role and working on her own. Our room was a good size but clearly in need of TLC . No valance on the bed, very thin pillows and quilt, very little toilet paper in the bathroom and mis matching toiletries. There was no soap ( apparently a supplier issue) and for nearly £200 pn I would at least expect bottled water and a glass. Our daughters room was massive and her bathroom absolutely beautiful bigger than our total room.. Our meal the first night was delicious but the second night as a large group arrived cold and the steaks just given out without checking who had ordered which . An apology was made and the food re cooked. Breakfast the first day was rather chaotic but there were 2 large weddings that weekend. On asking for salt and pepper I was told by a grumpy waitress someone had taken them and she couldn’t find anymore. This was the only grumpy member of staff I encountered as the rest although very young were more than willing to please. Having asked for a travel cot for our grandsons arrival it took 5 attempts over 2 days and for the overall manager to personally deliver it himself at 11pm quite horrified that the request had not been actioned . My husband spoke to both the GM and another manger Luis to voice some of our concerns and breakfast the next day was a truly different experience. Greeted at the door by friendly staff, delicious food ( sorry apart from the scrambled egg) and staff especially Luis could not have been more accommodating. I believe this really is a lovely venue and ideally suited to wedding and events and appreciate the new managers have only been in post a few weeks. With more staff some attention to detail to some of the rooms this truly could be a spectacular venue . …
The bedrooms are very poor indeed. None of the furniture matches, it's all very mix/match. The bathroom we had was small, grotty and with a big hole in the door where it looked like someone had punched their way through it. You couldn't even swing a cat in the bathroom it was that small. Very outdated. Carpets dirty, curtains dirty, windows need a good clean. Extremely poor considering what price they charge to be in the mansion rooms. Staff need re-training in customer service. Rude, unhelpful and acted like they didn't want to be there. The hotel could be so much better if money was invested into it. Spruce up the bedrooms, make them worth the hefty price tag and get some staff who actually want to be there.…
Only there for one night and it was their Medievel banquet (My first) It sounded good but unable to see much as we were seated at eight large round tables which meant that half the diners (like me) had their backs to the entertainment. Soon got a crick in my neck so abandoned trying to watch. Most of the bedrooms are a few hundred yards from the main building and it poured with rain. Got soaked to the skin. Hotel so remote, there was no Celphone service and their Wifi was down. No newspaper delivery so seemed medievel all round. Breakfast was poor. No choice, just selfserve English but no fried rggs only watery scrambled ( made from powdered eggs ??). Managed for one night but would not go back…
Went for a weekend away and was lovely, stayed in the old stables but rooms was very clean and spacious, the hall itself was stunning and the food hall was decorated nicely. Food was really nice and the grounds are nice to walk around. Not much to do though unless you drive to near by times but would definitely recommend if you just want to escape and get some peace and quiet.…
