#2 of 15 Speciality lodging in Beja
In Alentejo, six kilometers away from Beja, Herdade da Diabroria is distinguished by its generous size of 300 acres, retaining all the rural sight, circumscribed by grain fields and sunflowers and the charm that combines tradition with modernity since 1889. We provide the space and the hospitality and let you enjoy the beautiful landscape, highlighting the spectacular lake of rainwater, flown by various waterfowl, where you can go boating or fishing, and may also explore the region, or even observe or participate in the agricultural life of the property. Here is your haven away from the hectic pace of big cities.

"Higher Authority" was having a significant birthday so we decided on two nights away. We mainly went for geocaching and we found 19 caches over the 3 days. The hotel was a drive away from places to eat and they did not do evening dinner, just B&B. We ate in Ferreira the first night, but when we enquired they said they would cook for us the second night if we wished for €17 each inc wine, so we said yes and ordered fish. I quietly asked the receptionist if she could get a little birthday cake. There were just us on our candlelit table and the owner and his family of 6 on another. They served the fish with potatoes and onions, then came back with a further course (a black pork dish which is a Portuguese delicacy) so we were stuffed - also an excellent bottle of wine from the neighbouring farm. Then two of them made some music, a guitarist and his girlfriend singing. Anyway, the lights went down and they came in with a large chocolate cake with 2 candles, a bottle of complimentary champagne and they all sang "Happy Birthday". They then joined us for the rest of the evening finishing at 11.30. HA was quite emotional! So nice to do something special on her "big" birthday. The room was comfortable, clean and large and we could have held a party in the shower, not to mention the massive bathroom. Breakfast was good and plentiful and the dining room lovely, with views out to the pool and lake. The only negative is that wifi does not extend to the rooms, just the reception and restaurant, but this is not sufficient to make it 4 stars. Highly recommended! You will struggle to find better service or kinder, friendlier people.

Very nice, friendly people that make you feel at home. Spacious Rooms and even bigger bathrooms. Great space for events. They organize the most amazing cakes from a near by place from one day to the next.

What a great experience. It was only a night but I would had stayed longer. Great room, massive bathroom. All staff very friendly. They prepared a meal out of hours with no problems. The swimming pool was really good bonus because of hot weather. Looking forward to return in another occasion. Would recommend this place to all my friends

I wanted to visit the Beja area and this place was just right for me. I was rattling around in a very spacious 'Junior Suite', which was sharp, modern and had the finest bathroom I've ever seen in an hotel. I had a Swallow's nest in a niche outside my door! The property is set next to a lake, which would be perfect for 'birders' and gives a very pleasant aspect. I was a bit surprised to find that there is no evening meal unless the owners decide that the hotel is full enough to warrant the trouble, but there is a very friendly little restaurant in Sao Brissos, a couple of km away, which serves excellent local food at ridiculously low prices. Breakfast at H da D was a bit hit and miss. It is supposed to start at 0800, but on one day was not functional until 0830. I was also surprised that they didn't serve fresh orange juice when this fruit is so cheap in Portugal. Ham and cheese were a bit plastic, but the scrambled eggs, sourdough bread and coffee were good. The young lady on reception - I think her name is Adriana - was delightful, very helpful and with very good English, which made things easier for a fossilised old Brit. I would certainly stay there again.

We stayed here for 4 nights. Our room was a recently renovated room. Nice size, large bathroom with rainshower and freestanding bath. Cosy, typical deco... Nice balance new and old. For breakfast we received selection quality and regional products. Even homemade jam. Not a 5m long buffet, but all you need and everything is nice. If you need something, ask and will do everything to help. We had dinner twice. Very good and regional cooking! You feel like part of the family. Only comment I could think of. Would be helpfull if there was a sign " reception" main square, door to the right under main arch. Otherwise perfect. Peace and quiet are the keywords. Will be back.
