The distinctive Casa da Arvore in Marvao is indeed a family home where you can enjoy all the comfort it exists and sustains a really interesting story. This house has been theater in the early twentieth century and was rebuilt in 1951 to be a boys' school on the ground floor. On the first floor was the dwelling house of the teacher. The teacher placed this school Freedom Gomes Esteves, mother of the owners of the house, taught here until the construction of the new school in 1968, opposite the square. You can also point out that the name of this house is due to a centuries-old tree existed in the square in front of the facade of the house, which was later withdrawn. However, another curious fact about the house is clearly the names of the five bedrooms it exists be inspired by the many leaves of the trees scattered along the Serra de Sao Mamede, including Lime Tree, chestnut, elm, poplar and walnut that can be sighted the magnificent balcony this house undoubtedly having from one of the best Marvao views.

Great value for money, friendly family hosts with good local recommendations, terrific views (especially at sunset from the veranda with a complimentary glass of port), very large breakfast, all the necessities - a bit of a hair-raising drive the first time to the top of the mountain, and well worth it. Beer and wine available in the common room.

We thoroughly enjoyed our one-night stay. The rooms are clean and comfortable (although a little dated - which somehow lends its own charm given the location) and the bathroom was spacious, with basic toiletries provided. The biggest drawing card was the communal balcony, with views over the countryside that I imagine would be hard to beat (perhaps only rivaled from the castle walls, as it's a few metres away). We enjoyed sundowners over beautiful sunsets there, as well as our morning coffee. Breakfast was simple but offered a decent selection (cereals, yoghurt, fruit, bread) and ample parking right outside was a big plus for us. I can comfortably recommend it for a short stay.

We had a really good time at Casa da Arvore. Very cozy rooms, the hosts were great, the home made breakfast was marvellous! Definitely a great recommendation for a weekend escapade, with family or romantic.

We chose the place on the basis of the excellent reviews ( 9.3 superb) and couldn't figure out how it got this excellent rating. 1. dangerously low porch railing, unsafe for kids 2 dated, ugly bathroom with noisy pipes 3 hard, lumpy mattress.(couldn't sleep, had to spread blanket over the mattress and sleep on top ) 4 strong mildew smell on the first floor. 5.A nothing to write home about continental breakfast Hosts were nice but 9.3 rating- Give me a Break!!!!

We were surprised by the cosiness of the rooms, the hospitalty of our hosts, the quality of the breakfast, the generosity of the honesty bar and the prices and the view needs no further mentioning. We only(3 couples) regretted not having booked for more days.
