Train Spot guesthouse is a place for travelers. Created in the former Marvao/Beira train station, offers to all young hearted visitors the fun experience of living in an industrial era station, to discover the Natural Park where it is situated and the traditional "Raianos" culture of the Portuguese/Spanish border in Alto Alentejo. With the capacity to host 24 people, Train Spot Guesthouse offers a wide range of accommodations which can fit different budgets and needs, offering great comfort about a price of a hostel, ranging from rooms with shared bathroom, rooms with private bathroom to apartments with a private garden. Breakfast is served daily from a regional menu and can be enjoyed at the common spaces - kitchen, lounge, terrace, gardens or even while sitting on the train tracks. Situated on a quiet Beira village, Train Spot is only a few driving minutes away from the mediaval town of Marvao (the highest one in Portugal), Castelo de Vide, the Roman ruins of Ammaia, Sever river natural pools, and many other magical places in Marvao. Throughout the year Train Spot organizes different cultural events at the station, open to the general public, from music concerts and local artist exhibitions to traditional gastronomic events. On request, the guesthouse can organize various activity packages for guests: horse riding along the Serra de Sao Mamede range, learning how to make bread in a wood oven, walks along the ancient Smugglers trail, or just having an Alentejo snack.

We stayed at Train Spot for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The building, a reconverted train station, is lovely and charming, with a beautiful living room facing the now unused railroad. The staff is friendly and always available to help. Eduardo and Elsa made our stay gorgeous, they are fantastic. The setting is very rich, with old castles, ancient villages, Roman cities, great gastronomy and plenty of activities. A great time, looking forward to return!

It’s not the Ritz-Carlton but for 60Euros you get nostalgia, charm & simple hospitality. Great place for a little getaway or stopover in the region. The town was quite in winter but I assume would be bustling in winter. Would love to come again one day

Friendly staff and owner. The old train station has been converted into a guest house. Breakfast is at a communal table in the original kitchen. The beautiful tiled pictures on the platform are wonderful. Situated in a quiet town. A lovely quiet walk around the village.

I fell in love with this place within 3 minutes. In a quiet village in the heart of the S. Mamede chain lies this old train station turned into a hotel. The owners made it comfortable and gave it a modern, creative touch while respecting the building and its structure (check the amazing kitchen in stone where you'll have breakfast, or the stairs to the rooms). Rooms are plain but you won't be spending time there anyway, you'll want to spend time in the beautiful living room with its fireplace (it must be wonderful in Winter) and tons of interesting readings - you can tell that the owners love the region. And of course, there is the history of the place itself, where so many people met, arrived or left, and said goodbye at the time when there were still borders... Poetic and unique.
