Booked a week with our three children (all nearly four years old) at Pine Cliffs because we had heard so much about how child friendly it is, and also read reviews confirming as much. Unfortunately I have to say all those reviewers should be drug tested, as they cannot possibly have gone here with kids. This is a beautiful golf resort with a number of excellent pools, that at best tolerates children. Nothing here is designed for kids. The family room had beds three foot high with stone floors: wriggly children falling out of bed will end up dead or with cracked skulls. There is not one plastic plate or tumbler in the apartment: every plate is porcelain; every drink vessel is made of thin glass; every piece of cutlery metal. The restaurants themselves are the same, so as soon as you sit down you are frantically moving all glasses and plates away from the children. Drinks ordered for kids are delivered in fragile glass. The buffet restaurant - a must for parents with one child, as it avoids any unnecessary waiting - is closed two days of the week, and was then closed for another two days of our stay because of a corporate function. This went for other restaurants as well, at one point half of them were closed for various reasons. But most disappointing of all was the fabled Kids Club: it is terrible! Our kids have being going to nursery and camps for the last two years so are game for anything, but within a couple of days were refusing to go because it was so boring. There are barely any toys, kids are shoved into a holding pen with some sand, and end up inside watching movies. It is staffed by disinterested looking local teenagers who seem bewildered when faced with a crying child. We weren’t the only ones, plenty of other couples had a similar experience of kids refusing to go after a few days due to it being so boring.
All in all, mega disappointing, especially when it’s spoken of so highly, just cannot believe those reviewers actually have children

Dear Patrick J, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent stay with us. We take great pride in providing our guests with the highest quality standards and we are very sorry that on this occasion we failed to meet your expectations. Further to your comments, we would kindly like to inform you that we take the safety of our guests very seriously. We do provide bed guards, in our accommodations, on request should the children need this. We appreciate the mention on glass cups and porcelain plates, this is something we are currently working on and will have child friendly dishes in the near future at our restaurants. For all these shortcomings experienced we would like to express our profound apologies and we will surely look further into these matters to implement improvement measures. Hoping that you give us another chance to change your feelings towards our team, we sincerely hope to welcome you back in a near future. Warm regards. Guest Relations Team

This was the fourth time we stayed at the resort, each time in November for around 4 weeks.
The extraordinarily beautiful and extensive hotel complex, including a 9-hole golf course that is important to us, is very well maintained. The friendliness of the staff in all areas of the resort made the entire stay a perfect holiday for us. Here, the guest is king. We are always happy to meet the same staff. The large selection and quality of the breakfast buffet are worth mentioning. This also applies to the other food and drinks in the various restaurants. The location of the resort is ideal for golfers, as there are also many high-quality golf courses nearby.

The house lives from the incredible scenery of the cliffs, the rooms are mediocre considering the high prices, the restaurant service is clearly below average for the price range considering the VERY high prices. Half board was offered and sold, on site not even the reception knew that it would no longer be available in September. Instead, 50€ vouchers that were only enough for one meal in 3 restaurants.
Stale, tough rolls for 9€/cover.. Plus very mediocre wine for 40€/bottle. That could be better too

The resort is lovely and there is a variety of food on offer.

If you are staying in the “premium” ocean suite you would expect housekeeping to service the room during the five hours that you were outside. However, not in our case. On returning to our room at 5 pm, we noted someone had come to the room but only opened the curtain and moved a pillow. Housekeeping offered to service then, how can that be achieve given that your children are currently using the bathroom to get ready for dinner. They promised to return at 7 pm whilst you’re out for dinner. On returning at 10 pm, you realise the promise was empty. No one had bothered even come to check over or even restock the basic such as toilet tissue which was running low. We had to call for attendant came at that point to restock. She then tried to straighten the bed, what’s the point after 10 pm when the guest is standing right there ready to turn in?!?!

If the turn down service team even bothered to show up they may have noticed lack of house keeping service. Clearly that was a no show too.

Service at the resort is extremely slow, but having to request for toilet rolls after prior housekeeping escalation is absolutely sub-standards, a first in any place for me.

Even more disappointing is that front desk and housekeeping don’t take responsibility but just try to blame the other and try your pass you around for a resolution. You may not have done it, but take action and resolve it as the guest should not be the one chasing your various team for an additional toilet tissues at 10 pm!

Not a customer-oriented hotel, the hotel is solely money-driven, the employees don't care what you think as a customer, the staff just does what they want, lacks structure and customer focus, are not led by managers, the hotel has completely the wrong drive. Reception is of amateur level with only inexperienced people. Breakfast mainly consists of sugar, you experience an unpleasant “American” Disney atmosphere for adults in the hotel. Many American audiences where children are not corrected at all regarding their behavior. When you lie on your bed by the pool, staff rushes by with a smelly fuel golf cart, and you lie down in the gasoline vapor. Beach club is a mess in terms of entrance, completely out of control. There is no bed or parasol for hotel guests. You just have to figure it all out for yourself. The spa only has inexperienced staff from Brazil. The hotel has no dress code for dinner in the evening. Restaurants have waiting times, at reception there is a green, orange, red traffic light where you can see when staff is less customer-oriented at busy times. Cockroaches on 4th floor in room OS403 and hallway. The staff gives you a spray can of poison, have fun with it! Price quality is terrible. Worst hotel experience ever.

We just spend four days at the Pine Cliff Ocean Suites which is part of the Marriott’s Luxury Collection.

We found the resort to be beautifully landscaped and there were lots of activities including golf, tennis, group sports at the gym, a nice spa, etc.

We also thought that the staff was friendly and accommodating.

The room was comfortable and there was a nice terrace.

Here are the reasons I gave the resort a poor rating:

The resort was very busy as this is peak season. There were not enough sun loungers and we were told to get up early to put our towels on a seat to reserve it. The manager said this is not the way it works here but in reality it is the only way to ensure a chair.

The restaurants were all fully booked. When I arrived on Sunday, the only reservation for the Piri Piri steakhouse was for Friday at 21:00! This was for two guests! The same was true of all the other restaurants. The only option was the all day dining which was often full of small children as it is located next to the pool.

The other problem is when we tried to alert the manager of these issues. I called the front desk several times and was either hung up on or ignored. The manager took two days to finally get ahold of us.

The resort is full of children and there is no adult only outdoor pool or area for those without children.

The room service is all delivered in paper containers and disposable cutlery. It is more like an Uber eats experience rather than what is expected at a luxury resort. They blame it on COVID but this was not the case at other resorts we visited this summer.

The same with the coffee cups and glasses in the room. Plastic or paper only. This is not a matter of COVID as we now know that this is not a means of transmission if all is well washed.

We are very dissatisfied with this experience and would advise guests to stay away until these issues are resolved.

We stayed here in early August for 3 nights with our two kids, aged 2 and 6. We had booked a king room with a sofa bed with points, but were told we had to upgrade to a larger room for 4 people total. This happened at another Marriott recently, too. I don’t really think it’s fair when you have two children that can easily sleep on a pull out couch and/or crib. Anyway, we paid an additional $160 per night for a larger room. The larger room was definitely beautiful with a huge rooftop patio and a partial ocean view, however, we would have rather stayed in the other room and spent that add’l $480 on the spa!

The kids were in kids’ club for one full day and two half days. They didn’t seem to enjoy it, unfortunately. They’ve been to other hotel kids’ clubs and loved it, but this one didn’t hit the mark. Not enough activities and too many kids.

The three pools we went to were not overcrowded, but I wish there were more shallow areas so I didn’t have to watch like a hawk the whole time. My almost 3 year old couldn’t really use the pools like we’ve been able to at other hotels that have a gradient/gradual slope where they can splash around in a few inches of water. There was a separate kiddie pool, but it was tiny.

The food was great! We ate at the hotel on the beach for my husband’s birthday and the sea bass was excellent, I’m still thinking about it. You can pick out your fish from the front and 10 mins later it’s on your plate.

The breakfast included with our rate was very good, lots of options for everyone. It gets hella crowded though, so get there early or just be ready to throw ‘bows.

We did use the spa and had wonderful 80 minute deep tissue massages, I think it was $160. seemed fair to me for a hotel like this.

The included beach chairs and canopies down at the waterfront were pretty packed, but regardless, really nice. We ordered a pitcher of sangria one day and some chicken wraps, it did the trick.

All around had a nice time, but not sure we’ll be back unless we’re w/o the kids or the club improves.

We came last year and had a lovely family holiday in the Ocean Suites. We booked for 6 people and decided to come again this year. We booked over a year in advance in order to secure the same rooms overlooking the pool.

We arrived today and were told that one of these rooms was not available and we would be in a room facing the CAR PARK instead. We did not travel all the way from London where we live on a busy road to arrive in Portugal to be in a room where we cannot even see the sky. The other room for the same price is facing the sea. Both are called “Resort Suites” for the same price. This is totally deceiving, and misleading advertising.

The accomodation manager refused to help us and the duty manager was so rude and unhelpful too! We have travelled a lot and never had such shocking, intransigent customer service before. Clearly the customer does not come first here. We will never be back and do not recommend. They only offered us to upgrade for a room double the price! We were offered NO compensation only empty apologies.

There are many 5 star resorts in Europe that have fantastic customer service and go out of their way to help. This is not one of them!

This is the second time I have stayed at the Pine Cliffs Ocean Suites, the hotel is always good, but I have to point out a few negative points that other travelers have also felt:

The carpets in the hallways urgently need to be replaced, the stains are not really 5 star like..

More restaurants urgently need to be opened during peak times, people who pay €200-300 for suites and have to walk 1 km to the next restaurant for breakfast and then have to wait on the stairs - are angry and don't come back...

If the O Grill at the Pine Cliffs Residence were open, a lot would be better...

Small children and babies in strollers should no longer be allowed into the hotel bar in the evenings, where alcohol is served, and pool tables are not a playground for 3-year-old children!!

If the hotel staff see something like this, the parents should be told that this is not allowed...

It's also difficult for adults at Christmas who want a quiet restaurant to eat in!!!

This is not meant as a complaint, but rather as a suggestion for improvement.

Nevertheless, I felt comfortable and will come back.

Wonderful week in the Algarve with exceptional accommodations in a 2 bedroom suite with an ocean view. Breakfast each morning was a delight in the Jardin Colonial restaurant with delightful servers like Olga and a wonderful omelet chef!! The Cataplana dinner in O Pescador was superb, and 2 dinners in Cafe Corda were fantastic as well. The grounds are gorgeous, the beach and red cliffs are spectacular, and the golf course with its great views was a joy to play. Plus its central location in the Algarve allowed us to drive and explore several towns from Sagres to Tavira. What a wonderful week - we definitely plan to return!
