Nestled in a prime location, Alfagar Aparthotel garners accolades for its scenic surroundings and easy access to activities, though there's the occasional mention of a less ideally placed room. The hotel's modern vibe and spotless environment, alongside a plethora of amenities including diverse pools and entertainment offerings, are popular among guests. The spacious apartments with stunning sea views are frequently praised, as is the attentive and friendly service, despite minor inconsistencies. While the hotel is generally considered to provide good value, some guests point out the higher costs of certain services.

Family trip, there are different locations as part of the Alfagar complex. We stayed in the Alfagar Aparthotel. This is suited mainly towards families with children with things on in the evening. The Prestige apartments/area are more suited to couples and older children with a quieter pool. Make sure to book the accommodation most suitable to your group. There are several pools across the complex and you get access to them all. Some are quieter than others. Some have loud music and have slides etc for young kids. We visited in September and there was no issue getting sun loungers by pools. It is important to note there are no lifeguards at the pools.

Apartments were large, bathroom with a bath/shower (hairdryer, towels, and soap/bodywash included), built in storage in the bedroom and side tables, full kitchen (dish soap, drying cloth, fridge, hob, oven, microwave, kettle, utensils, pans, pots, and crockery), and dining table, tv, couch, balcony (with table, chairs, sun lounger, and clothes drying rack). Iron and ironing board was also provided. The apartments were extremely clean aside from some mold in the grouting in the shower/bath area. The apartments were cleaned five days a week and new towels provided three times a week. You can rent different towels from reception to use at the pool.

The beach is difficult to access for those with mobility issues and for older folks. It's down large steep wooden steps and is tough to climb back up. It's easier to access the beach by travelling into the New Town for the day.

There are several restaurants onsite with different styles and levels of price. The Cafeteria was the nicest with several fish options and tapas plates. Also had a nice setting/scenery. The Bungavilla was also quite nice.

There is a very nice gluten free cafe called Maria's about a ten minute walk to the right as you leave the complex. We went there several times for breakfast and lunch. The Cafeteria and Bungavilla also accommodated for gluten free dishes.

The complex is about a 20 minute walk to the New Town strip. We walked sometimes but also used Uber and Bolt in the evenings. We visited the Old Town twice in the evenings using Uber and Bolt - too far to walk really. We ate at several places outside of the campus that offered gluten free including Ricardo's (pasta), Hope and Tapas (prawns) and Portobello (pasta).

We used the hotels airport transfer service from and to the airport for 55e. It was reliable.

Alfagar aparthotel did not disappoint. From the moment we stepped into the resort the staff went out of their way to cater for any requests and answered questions promptly. Nothing was too much trouble. We were escorted on arrival to our apartment via a buggy which was very convenient after a long journey and tired children.
When we entered the apartment everything was spotless. I am always reluctant to cook in places away from home due to the cleanliness or utensils but I can truly say it was a joy to use the kitchen. Everything you would need was provided and all the utensils seemed new. Everything had been cleaned and maintained well so I happily cooked for our family most days. There was plenty of cutlery plates bowls and cooking pans and they even provided dish soap which was convenient. The apartment is spacious which was a big positive for my children. The bed was comfortable and the sofa bed was nice and firm to sleep on so suited us fine. It was easy to make up and again appeared clean and good condition. We requested a higher quite room which we are grateful was provided. My kids 3 and 6 had a great time at the playgrounds and indoor pool - 1 was heated. The route to the beach was via stairs and I struggled walking down without a rail to hold so beware to anybody with poor balance or mobility. We ventured put a few times to the local town centre where there are supermarkets but not much else..it was around a 15min walk for us. We also used the tourist train which was an exciting journey for the children and runs throughout the year although we had a 50min wait to get on it. We never tried the food at the hotel so cannot comment but did have plenty of choice for food delivery via uber eats.
There is a small laundry room available but the price of washing and drying is €5 each so we didnt use the machines more than once. Being the quiet season there was no childrens entertainment but we were aware of this and the playgrounds gave the kids a workout post dinner.
The balcony was so clean and spacious and we enjoyed breakfasts there most mornings. All in all we felt this was a wonderful holiday for a great price via Jet2 holidays and would recommend this resort to anyone visiting albufeira. Ideal for those that want lazy days at the resort..not too close to much else.

Just returned from a lovely break at Alfagar, Aparthotel with my 8 year old daughter.

If cleanliness is important to you then stay here! Everywhere was spotless. The room was clean with everything you needed. Bar and restaurant staff would clean & wipe surfaces down as soon as anything touched them. Food was lovely, lots of variety and everything was fresh & hot.

If your children being happy is important then stay here. My daughter was in the waterpark every morning which did get boring for me but she was happy and that’s the main thing. It did mean some costly days however, as you’re left to buy food & drinks on site. It’s a lot cheaper outside the hotel. We downloaded the Bolt app for all trips, including to & from the airport. It’s so cheap!

This isn’t the place for you if you like to get drunk and leave your kids to it. With it being self-catering or half board, this meant a lovely environment where everyones behaviour was civilized. Entertainment finished by 11pm every night meaning you could get a good sleep.

If we were to return to Portugal, it would be purely to stay here again. Thank you

Mu husband, two kids (10 & almost 6) & I stayed at the Alfagar II Aparthotel for 10 days the end of August, 2022. We were so impressed with the whole place from start to finish, we had a lovely pool view 1 bed apartment, okay the orange & brown tiles were a bit eek but otherwise it was perfect. We had a double bed in our room (two single beds pushed together so it was very roomy) & the kids slept on the sofa bed in the living room. What really suited us was the sliding door between our bedroom & the living room, we have two nervous sleepers & as it was a new environment there were extra nerves so the sliding doors suited us perfectly because it felt like we were all in the same room 😁. The whole apartment was spotless bins emptied every day & the apartment was cleaned every second day, bedding changed every third day & they always arranged all of the kids teddies so sweetly om the sofa bed afterwards ❤️ The kitchen was really well equipped & the balcony was a lot bigger than we expected, it fitted a table, 4 chairs & 2 loungers with loads of space to spare. The complex also had laundry facilities (which were a little hard to find, more signs needed at the steps!) & we had a drying hanger to hang the clothes out on the balcony. We paid for B&B & breakfast was from 8.30am to 10.30am every day, and I can honestly say it was the nicest breakfast buffet we had ever come across, soooo much choice & everything was delicious. The pool area was AMAZING!!! 😍 The kids pool was ideal for my kids, there were two big slides, perfect for our 10 year old & smaller slides for my 6 year old. The pools were clean & the pool staff, (Animaco I think they were called), were so nice & friendly & great with all of the kids. There's a bar just beside the pool area & they did good, which was really nice & I have to say out of all of the staff they were the nicest, particularly the girl who served us every day. Prices weren't as cheap as we expected but I guess prices are gone up everywhere. The complex is huge, we walked to the nearby beach twice which is fabulous. There's a small shop & an ATM in the complex also. We also came across a gorgeous Playground for the kids. I only have two negatives to say about this place which are really minor, no.1 The wifi is really bad in the apartments, but it's better when you're in the reception area & by the pool. No. 2, the laundry area needs to be signposted a bit better, there are two signs & then nothing so we were walking around like headless chickens for a while til we were lucky enough to find it.

What a great hotel complex, there are 4 different hotel appartment blocks on the complex and if your booked into one you can use facilities on all of them, all with pools either indoor outdoor and heated, all have bars and restaurants. all within walking distance of each other. lots of entertainment on site singers dancers magic show, reptile show all of which were great. there are 2 mini markets both well stocked and some uk foods too. plenty of parking if you have a car. bus stop just at the entrance also.

we had a 2 bed seaview appartment in the Apparthotel, lovely huge wrap around terrace was a good sun trap had a dining table outside and inside 2 sun beds on the terrace. full kitchen with everything you need to be self catering. bathroom with bath. very clean, the cleaners are in 5 days a week with towel change 3 times a week the appartment was huge inside lots of space for a family. beds and pillows really comfy, there is air con, also extra pillows and quilts in the wardrobe. we ate at the Cafeteria, Buganvilla and Giovannis which is accros the road on the other complex, all the meals were lovely and good value. Staff really lovely in all of these, we also had drinks at the Red bar and at the Buganvilla again reasonably priced.

The staff on site are all happy and friendly. the beach is just a stroll away however there are steps so would be difficult if you have mobility issues. its a lovely clean beach too.

The strip (Albufeira) is about 25 min walk, very busy place nice for an evening out lots of bars and restaurants. it was 4.70 euros back to the hotel in a taxi . Albufeira old town is lovely and has a great beach.

I loved this complex everything was so convenient :)

As always our stay was wonderful. So good that we started by spending a few days in alfagar village and we stayed another 4 days in alfagar aparthotel, because the difficult thing is to choose which one to stay in.
At this point we prefer the aparthotel because we descended directly from the elevator to the indoor pool without having to pass the outside. But we highly recommend this hotel, it is where we stay every time we go to the algarve, and for children is also wonderful.

As a family of 4 we booked this holiday at last minute and what a choice we made….
From the moment I booked the hotel contacted me to arrange transfers and anything we required for the room jump on arrival as we has a late flight with young kids. Being collected at Faro by the hotels transfer service to being checked in late at night I knew from the friendliness and attitude that nothing was too much and we had made the right decision for us, adults and kids.
The apartments, what can I say, plenty of room for the 4 of us with a double bed and sofa bed for the kids, kitchenette which was fully equipped and a double balcony with laundry hangars, sun loungers and a garden table and chairs for 4, we had ample room. This apart / hotel was spotless, cleaning around every day except Sunday and Friday to change towels for the room.
As we had a toddler with us we explored around old town and Newtown after breakfast and returned to the pool for the afternoon. The only complaint was that the pool was too cold, as in Baltic! But once in, you didn’t notice it so much but they also had an indoor pool for anyone who didn’t like the cold so much. Across the whole resort, there is about 10 pools that you can use once you are staying in the resort. There are 2 restaurants, 2 pool cafeterias, 2 bars, 2 supermarkets and a pharmacy. One thing I noticed was the bins and amenities were changed / serviced every 30-40 mins, the whole resort was absolutely spotless. If you had an issue the staff were extremely friendly and had excellent English which made it so much easier to converse if they’re was an issue.
The restaurant was lovely we were on a bed and breakfast basis and every morning it was lovely with all fresh fruits and bakes, fresh frittata every morning and the typical ‘Fry’ also available.
We travelled every evening to either oldtown or newtown , food was good but source it well before you go. Uber is the way to travel at not costing more than €6
Only 1 thing I believe it lacked was the nightly entertainment, but only for the kids / adults looking for it. We were happy conversing with other families and out kids were happy colouring / playing and having time on their tablets.
Alfagar you are 100% doing the right thing, I have recommended this to so many and I will return for sure next year.

I regret to share that our experience at Alfagar Aparthotel was profoundly disappointing, beginning with a distressing booking error that cost us an additional £300 on Day 1. Despite the evident strain this placed on us, the staff displayed a disconcerting lack of empathy and professionalism, even laughing while I was visibly distressed.

Furthermore, the hotel's approach to dining left much to be desired. A simple request for tap water was met with eye-rolling, and a mistaken charge for drinks (literally chased down in the hotel!) was not even acknowledged with an apology. Moreover, with dinner starting at 6:30 pm, families with young children are left with limited options.

As for the amenities, the Wi-Fi coverage is spotty at best, confined mainly to the reception and pool areas. Renting a pool towel comes at the exorbitant price of €15, which felt like an unnecessary expense. They try to make money out of you at every opportunity and publicly ridicule you if you say no. Speaking of pools, only one out of the 7+ available pools is heated, making it quite uncomfortable for children to swim in any pool with activities. Even the inside pool was freezing!

Moreover, the absence of baby-changing facilities across the entire establishment, even in disabled toilets, added an extra layer of inconvenience. The overall lack of courtesy from staff was startling—rudeness seemed to be the default mode of interaction.

The hotel's shortcomings also extended to deeper issues of inclusivity. Both my husband and I felt palpable undertones of racism, causing us to reconsider our inclination to even visit Portugal again in the future.

The sole redeeming feature was the ample poolside beds, but this was scant consolation for the myriad issues we encountered.

FYI Alfagar Village and Alfagar Aparthotel are on the same resort, just opposite ends. And the sister hotel Alto Da Colina is just across the road. It would make for an amazingly resourced hotel if only the ethos of customer service completely changed. You may get the facilities, but you won’t get the experience.

This was, without question, the worst family holiday we have ever had.

Just back from 5 nights at the Alfagar Aparthotel. We stayed with our 2 children 5yrs and 1yr old.

Our apartment was modern and had everything we needed. The bedroom was large with a/c and the resort provided us with a travel cot free of charge. The pull out sofa bed in the living area was large (two single beds effectively) and the balcony was huge and connected both rooms. Our apartment was plenty big enough for 4 of us and all our luggage that travelling with children entail.

The resort is top class. Plenty of pools for all ages. We spent the majority of our time by the kids pool as that is all they wanted with the numerous water slides etc. Plenty of other pools if you wanted a more low key day. No matter what part of the resort we were in it was spotlessly clean. There were also plenty of soccer courts, tennis areas etc and lots of playgrounds dotted around the place. The kids were always entertained. There is also a kids club but we did not utilise it.

The staff from pool attendants, to reception to the numerous cleaners were all very friendly and polite.

Two points of note.. the pool bar is expensive for what you get, but then again I suppose most pool bars are. The mini market on site is also expensive and there is a more reasonably priced Spar shop 200 meters to the right when you come out of the resort.

The beach has access from the resort but is not suitable for buggies. We walked along the road which took about 10-15mins and was well worth the visit.

The food in the resort is fine. We found a nice restaurant, Portobello, which is only 5 mins walk from the resort in the direction of Albuferia. We chose to eat here twice as we found it better for the kids and adults and was very reasonably priced.

We also used Uber to visit Vilamoura and Albufeira and was far cheaper than hotel transfer. Of note is that public transport in Portugal be it taxi or Uber will not provide child seats and they will have to sit with adults. Taxis are much the same price as Uber.

All in all an excellent resort, would we stay again.. absolutely.

We stayed in the new prestige part of Alfagar aparthotel, rooms were spacious and very clean with nice airy decor, my two kids slept on the sofa bed which I slept on 3 nights I didn’t find it very comfy but kids didn’t complain. We purchased the buffet dinner deal and found the buffet in sister hotel across the road alto da Colina to be way better than Olivera, it was more spacious and had more options, they had a themed night every night and we really enjoyed it, we also went over for breakfast also which also had more options! The pools were all lovely, we spent the week at the kids pool and had so much fun, my kids are 3 and 6 we didn’t leave the resort only to go to spar 3 mins down the road, we will definitely return

There are restaurants nearby and on the property. Walking into new town is doable but a very long walk to old town. Tuk tuks are available for hire or cabs for the larger group. Can't comment on the sunbeds as we were there in March/April.

They are all part of the same complex and as a guest you can enjoy the facilities of all of the other parts (village etc). The main differences are the distances from the water park or the beach but it’s pretty negligible from our experience unless you have a serious condition that affects your mobility
