Hotel Sol e Mar offers a mixed experience; while the atmosphere is sometimes praised for its relaxed ambiance with live piano music, other guests find the decor outdated and evening entertainment lacking. The hotel's cleanliness and attentive staff receive commendations, as does its enviable beachfront location near the old town, though the area can be bustling. Although the dining options are varied, some visitors suggest a need for modern in-room amenities. Guests have mixed feelings about value, with some criticizing the cost relative to the quality of meals and amenities. Service is generally good, with friendly staff, but service quality can be uneven. Room size and cleanliness are well-regarded, yet noise and maintenance issues have been noted.

Excellent location near the old town. All rooms have a sea view and they are a good size. Bed was nice and comfy, two 90cm beds put together as a double. Good sized balcony with a nice open view, we stayed on the 3rd floor which was high enough. You have a big beach right in front of the hotel. In our stay in December beach was fairly quiet, but still you hear pretty loud music from the cafe right below the balconies. Music stops thankfully by 5.30 p.m. but I expect this location being quite noisy in the peak season.
Bathrooms have a very good shower, no shortage of hot water and the water pressure is excellent. Rooms are cleaned daily, towels were changed at least 5 times a week. In the room you get a nespresso style coffee maker, but complimentary coffee and tea bags are provided only on the day of arrival. In any case, I would prefer ordinary kettle as I like my hot drinks proper hot!

Breakfast was ok and plentiful, but if you like hot food - not too great selection: same dry cold sausages every morning, bad "sloppy" scrambled eggs..beans, mostly cold as well. I personally liked best fresh bread, yoghurts and fruit selection. Coffee was ok from a machine, also nespresso machine was available.

Big disappointment was the swimming pool, which was located on the ground floor and access in there was through the cafe from the outside of the building! Didn´t use the pool at all, it was so odd place...and small with just couple of plastic chairs around it for you to place your belongings. This wasn´t what we expected at all as we booked this hotel partly because of a indoor pool, it being December and too cold to swim in the sea (for us anyway). As it was a rainy and cool week, walking around town kept us then busy and warm enough.

Staff in the reception and chambermaids were brilliant. Probably wouldn´t stay in this hotel again, though. We like to hire a car and in front of this hotel there isn´t much of a chance for parking. Public transport you don´t get near this hotel, so taxi is almost the only option for getting outside the old town.

Great location in the heart of Albufeira, on the beach. All rooms are sea oriented and are the same size (there is no reason to have different prices!!!). This hotel has 4 stars but is not at the level: no airport transport service (despite being posted on the websites), no spa, no gym, no dining choices, a small indoor pool accessible through a restaurant!!! without cabin to change. The rooms are quite large as well as the bathroom, with a balcony to the sea.But you will only have 2 capsules of coffee for 4 nights at 2, no tissues even if you ask, a broken plastic garbage can on your arrival, traces on the walls of the bathroom, lots of mold on the shower joints and no soap holder, toothbrush holder.... Finally the rooms ending in 07 are to be avoided: they are facing the stairs and elevators and communicating with the rooms ending next door: so very noisy with the delicacy of hearing your neighbors take their shower and go to the toilet! You will also have the joy of having the housekeepers vacuum the hallway at 8:30 in the morning. If you ask to change rooms, a rather unkind lady, who does not recognize you even if she is in charge of the reception and you have spoken with her less than 12 hours before, replies that the hotel is full while several rooms are available on the hotel website and on the specialized travel websites. Breakfast is very good. I would not recommend this property unless the room rate is low: no more than 100€ (we paid 200€ per day with breakfast)

Nice hotel with very nice beach view, we spent 7 nights there for the Christmas holidays. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable, you can hear some noise from the other rooms but nothing very disturbing. We were surprised to have a good Christmas Eve served at very good table like all the other meals we had.
Just a small flaw the dishes served are lukewarm. A microwave would be useful for people who like to eat hot. Some extra entertainment in the evening during the holidays would have been nice, like the Sunday evening dancers.
We had a great time and we thank all the service staff at the restaurant especially Edouardo and Sofia very attentive and attentive.

Hotel is perfectly situated right on the beach front, it is less than 5 minutes walk from the centre square in the old town, so just outside the noise level of the strip. The room was a great size with a beautiful balcony facing the sea. It was very clean and comfortable. The room has a small fridge which was very handy and also an nespresso coffee machine. Rooms are cleaned everyday and the cleaning staff were exceptional nice. The reception area and bar are nice, a bit old fashioned but clean and comfortable, there is music most nights, it does finish early enough but if you want a more lively scene you dont have to go too far. We were distrubed on three of the nights at 4am by people returning back to their rooms, making quite alot of noise talking and playing music which was a pity.
Our big negative about this holet was the food. We went half board so breakfast and dinner were included. I would not go half board again. The breakfast was nice, they had everything you need for breakfast either continental or cooked. Fresh omelettes could be ordered from your table. However Dinner was very very poor. The quality of the food was bad, it was not nice. I know that you are cathering for alot of people, but that is not an excuse to serve chewy, unedable food. There is a restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel on the beach front run by the hotel (this in not where you get your dinner on the half board package) and the food here was execellent. There are absolutely loads and loads of nice restaruants in the area, so there is a choice. The hotel did provide a food bag, sandwich, apple, water and juice, in our room on arrival the first night as we did not arrive at hotel until 10.30pm, which was a nice touch.
I would highly recommend this hotel but on a bed and breakfast basis only.

My husband and I have just returned home to England from Hotel Sol e mar on the 5th of January 24 after a 4 night stay. The room was ok, clean, but the bed was VERY firm! The cleaning staff are very noisy!! No chance to catch up on lost sleep. 💤 You get 2 coffee pods for the first morning then you have to pay €1.50 afterwards, on the second morning they left green tea instead of Breakfast tea which we had used the first morning 🤔 The 3rd day we came back after breakfast and our room had been turned down and cleaned, nicely but I felt someone had used my expensive face cream. So to save any confrontation I put my face creams and a new bottle of GUCCI perfume in the safe. That was the last time I used my perfume. Friday after breakfast we came back to the room to pack up as we had to check out at 11 O’clock. I packed our clothes and my husband packed our rucksacks, the toiletries phone chargers ect. I firmly believe he left the perfume in the safe. Our bags were with us all day until we returned home as we only had had luggage. I unpacked and the one thing that wasn’t in our bags was my perfume 😔 I got my husband to contact the hotel straight away at 10pm that night, They informed us that nobody had gone into the room that day and would contact house keeping the following morning. My husband had to contact them again today and Funny old thing that it wasn’t found and the hotel said they don’t want to discuss that matter further. The front of house were sharp and were not particularly friendly. This has left me feeling very sad as we have been coming to Alfalfa twice a year and have 2 more trips booked. I will NEVER stay with this hotel again. It’s not the £90 bottle of perfume it’s about trust and us paying £110 pounds a night and being treated as liars.
Shame on you Hotel Sol e mar shame on you 🫵🏻 😔👎🏼

Here I post the email sent to this guest, we will not respond to this guest any further. "Dear Mr. Richard Kavanagh, I am very sorry about what happened, but please know that in the 10 years that I have been the manager of this hotel, we have never had a case of theft or an employee touching a guest's belongings. The room maids have been working at this hotel for several years and there has never been a complaint from a guest about anything. Our general housekeeper has checked with all the room maids and they have all confirmed that nothing has been found. I'm sorry, but for these reasons I have nothing more to say on the subject." This hotel is in an excellent location in the centre of Albufeira right on the beach, the views from every room is stunning as all over look the beach. The rooms are spacious and have great storage space, we didn't spend much time in the bar but when we did there was little going on and no atmosphere. The buffet breakfast gave a wide choice and also a good time range 7-10.30am, thanks to Eduardo for his cheerful greetings each morning and his help with the coffee machine.
The only negative is if you happen to be in room 412-417 be prepared to be woken by the sound of chairs scraping loudly above you as the breakfast is served right above these rooms and this sound is constant for three and a half hours. I suggested that the hotel apply the pads to the feet of the chairs and tables as it is quite intrusive into the rooms if you are a light sleeper.
The indoor pool has to be booked per room for half an hour, the sun loungers on the beach are associated with the hotel and are €20 a day no matter how long you use them for no concessionsfor hotel guests, towels can be hired from the hotel this is explained on arrival. Would stay again but not in 412-417 too noisy at breakfast fix that problem and a perfect stay.

Best hotel in Albufeira as a strategic and beautiful and quiet location, and directly on the beach with all the rooms facing the sea, adjacent to the 50 meter tunnel and you are in the historic center there is the information point. (Ask for various maps of the centers you want to see) and point for boat trips. Albufeira is the best place to visit the Algarve because it is central from where the trips depart. To the east there is Faro, Ohlao and Tavira, to the west Portimao, Lagos and Sagres.
Superb panoramic dining room on the top floor, adjacent to the bar room with a wonderful long balcony for sipping coffee or an aperitif in the sun with a breathtaking view. Excellent breakfast with sweet/savory, fresh yogurt with fruit of various qualities, croissants and espresso coffee with a choice of espresso capsules and freshly squeezed orange juice and hot savory and sweet dishes. Dinner always with many various starters with good first courses, meat and fish and excellent desserts and desserts. Compliments to the chef, to Edoardo with his staff of waiters who are always welcoming and ready to satisfy you even at the restaurant on the beach under the hotel adjacent to the excellent ice cream shop.
Very nice room, panoramic and very clean. All facing the sea with a small terrace where you can admire the indescribable sunrise and sunset. One flaw: the bathrobe and towel for the swimming pool on the ground floor facing the sea are missing. Espresso machine with capsules and tea on the 1st day. which you can then request at reception or buy at the shop 200 meters from the hotel. Congratulations to Rosy and all the cleaning staff.
Evenings with super piano bar and splendid show on Sunday.
At the fishermen's beach there are 2 escalators to go up to the cliffs with a terrace and a dream view, and. where the new part of the city is and where the train leaves from which, for 5 euros a day, takes you to all the areas, you can get off and on at the various stops. During the day I advise you to do the one in the new shopping center (you will find all the places to eat everything at a good price on the 1st floor) adjacent to the Brisa hotel (inside this there is a super pastry shop with a view of the swimming pool and sea). Also get off at the stop to see Ohlos de Água beach and have lunch there.
Take the TUK TUK near the terrace with Carlos who accompanied us to the beaches and cliffs throughout the truly fantastic Algarve. Visit the centers of Lagos not by coach but by car (buy marvelous woolen and cork artefacts, bags, shoes, various accessories and souvenirs (I highly recommend the authentic Montaldo brand because it is made entirely of treated, NOT COVERED cork). Visit the fish market of Ohlao after Faro, buy the characteristic hand-painted honey jars.
What can I say? Portugal is truly fantastic, very clean and very polite people.
Thank you for this unlikely and wonderful journey.

First time staying in this hotel and it was fabulous. The hotel, bedrooms and facilities are immaculately clean and a credit to the cleaning team. Reception staff were so welcoming and all the staff were friendly and accommodating.
Our room was superb with an amazing view over the beach and nice to be able to hear the waves at night.
Beds were so comfortable and pillows were so soft. Additional bedding was also supplied in the cupboard. Shower was powerful, spacious and very hot. Toiletries were provided although we did not use these.
Breakfast was buffet style and excellent quality and selection. Only one suggestion/improvement I could make is that they have a wide selection of tea herbal but it is difficult to know what the various flavours are as the writing is very small and in Portugese. Its Potluck which flavour you get.
The beach in front is exceptionally well maintained and we felt the charge for the sun beds was reasonable and expected. There is also waiter/waitress service from the sun beds should you need it.
We will definitely return again.
Obrigada.

My wife and I booked the hotel for s week and were unlucky with the weather.
The big positive for us was the fact that the hotel was right next to the beach and that all the rooms had a great sea view. At least we thought so. We were given room 107 and the sea view was partially blocked by 2 banners, on flagpoles, that were in place to advertise the restaurant on the ground floor. They would also have partially affected the sea views of at least rooms 108 and 109. We complained about it and were moved to room 110 on the first full day. I can't believe that we were the ones to complain. Those banners are not necessary if they block views for paying guests.
The second thing to upset us, perhaps more importantly, was that the hot foods were NEVER hot when we chose our food. Even when we were the second couple into the dining room, the food was only lukewarm at best. I complained and from then onwards, two members of staff heated our chosen plates of food in the kitchen. In other hotels, where this has been a problem, there was a microwave available to be used by us. This is not a minor problem at all. We spoke to other guests about this matter. They agreed but were too embarrassed to complain about it. If a hot meal is only lukewarm to start with, it is quite cold within two or 3 minutes and that is just not acceptable. This can be solved by putting a microwave oven into the dining room.
Another issue was the outside balcony adjoining the big lounge area. There were tables and chairs there and there were ashtrays on each table. We do not smoke and if we went onto the balcony to enjoy the view, the smoking by others brought us inside again. There are two doors onto the balcony thus it could be divided into smoking and non-smoking areas with a large transparent screen divider between the two. The hotel management should do something to sort this out.
One more issue was the noise from the building work going on at the hotel. The noise from the drilling was VERY loud and spoilt our enjoyment when we were inside the hotel during the daytime.

This hotel is all about the location, beachfront with stunning views from every room and then from the back of the hotel literally step into the old town, with its cobbled streets, restaurants, bars and atmosphere.
A great choice for your holiday.

Rooms are spacious, each with a balcony and sea view. Cleaned daily to a high standard, and around the hotel all is clean. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Others negative comments may deter you from booking, however I would recommend staying here without hesitation.

1. Breakfast is a full buffet, the fruit is great, pastries and toast etc.The hot breakfast offers all you could ask for. Remember this is Portugal not England, so you may find it a little different but it is good and plentiful.
2. Coffee in room - yes if you want more Nespresso pods after the 1st one then you have to pay extra. This is your choice. Or take coffee with you, and heat water in the Nespresso machine. There’s a handy fridge for milk, water, etc. And you can get a good coffee at breakfast from the Nespresso machine there, as well as the standard coffee machine.
3. Yes you pay a 10 euro deposit for a beach towel. This is a deposit just return the card and you’ll get it back. Sun beds are 5 euros each, and parasols 10 euros each. Worth every cent to spend the day on the beach in comfort.
4. Check in is 3pm - if you get there earlier as we did leave your bags at reception and venture into town for lunch, or at the hotel beachfront cafe.

Sunbeds start to appear on the beach, when there’s sufficient customers to make money, so a bit dependent on the weather. Possibly around Easter if the weather is good, could be May, if not.
