Grand Muthu Forte da Oura is often commended for its cleanliness and vibrant atmosphere by guests, who enjoy the hotel's dance classes and live music. The staff's friendly service is frequently praised, although some visitors have had issues with promptness. While the spacious rooms and central location near beaches and dining are well-regarded, guests note the rooms could use modernization and better upkeep.
The amenities are appreciated, yet some find the all-inclusive package restrictive and sunbed availability limited. Mixed views on value point to concerns over unexpected fees.

We stayed from 21st Oct to 25th Oct 2024 in the MGM Grand Hotels Forte Da Oura. Hotel very clean, staff are great and very welcoming.
You have the option to dine and use the facilities including the pools and bars in all the other MGM Hotels which are in close vicinity to each other
We found the pool and restaurant in MGM Clube Praia da Oura across the road from Forte Da Oura was better for families and more choice of food compared to Forte Da Oura thats not to say the food was poor it was a smaller choice compared to across the way.
Yoandry and Leyanna ran the entertainment and were entertaining too.
My only moan would be some of the food was cool. We tried the Italian restaurant and both mine and wife's Lasagna was cold and sometimes the food in Forte Da Oura was cool too.
Never had an issue in Clube Praia da Oura that's why we chose to use their facilities daily.
In the area a you have bars and restaurants as you turn left out of the hotel which are reasonably priced and if you turn right out of the hotel and walk about 5 mins you have Albuferia New Town Strip with many restaurants and bars too. Saw no trouble and had a great time here too.
Local taxis on the from cast between 4 to 8 Euros to the Old Town and Uber and Bolt cost no more than 4 Euros. We chose the local taxis when we saw them.
We stayed in a Junior Suite which was very big, clean and spacious.
Overall great hotel, great location and great country we will be back next year.

Be aware before you travel that this hotel has five stars on the basis of its leisure facilities. It is not a five star, but a good three star at best. The hotel is spotlessly clean though, and both the rooms and the apartments are of a good size. Be aware that you will be presented with a set of rules suitable not for adults paying for an all inclusive holiday in a five star hotel, but for recalcitrant twenty somethings - no drinks in the lobby, no food or drinks may be taken from the restaurant, and best of all, no drinks may be brought to your room and no room service is available. The vaunted selection of restaurants available is in fact, the restaurant of each of the sister hotels with different themes on different nights, including several which are actually benches underneath awnings in a green space although they are styled as separate restaurants. All of the restaurants are not open all of the nights. You will have to pre book to get a table or otherwise will have no choice but to eat in the underwhelming and understaffed in-house restaurant. In counterpoint to this the staff are without exception - hard working, helpful and pleasant.

The positives, very nice hotel, very decorative reception with marble tiled floors and very clean and bright, the restaurant area is also very clean and well laid out, nice assortment of foods available at every sitting but like all inclusive restaurants most stuff was only lukewarm (there is however a microwave available if you choose to heat it up). Staff are very friendly, polite and very helpful, pool area is good although the pool is quite small for such a big hotel. Disappointing side for us was the descriptions - when I book a so called "Deluxe Room" I don't expect it to have no balcony, a window that looked onto a fence 20ft away and to make it worse, was actually on the only reception service entrance for every guest, the apparent kitchen area consisted of a converted double wardrobe with kitchen essentials in it, (fridge, kettle, microwave, toaster and some kitchenware). The WiFi strength was pretty awful considering we were practically next to reception and unless you speak Portuguese the Satalite TV was basically free view with 3 British speaking channels. Please don't let my comments put you off visiting Forte de Oura because I would possibly go back there, just be sure you know exactly what your booking. Just don't book a Deluxe Room and expect anything more that a large ground floor room with no view and 4 single beds which would be better classed as a "Family Room"

Just returned from a 5 night stay at the hotel, firstly from reading some other reviews it is not a 5 star hotel in the truest sense, however I doubt anyone really expects it to be based on the rates charged.
My wife and I did an all inclusive last minute package which was as good a value as other hotels were offering for just room only.
Check-in was seamless and the lady on check-in was so friendly and helpful. We were allowed to check-in early as we arrived in the morning and were upgraded to have a view.
The room accommodation was very spacious for 2 people with a large double bedroom, separate bathroom with a separate living area and kitchen / dining area. We also had a balcony with a sea view.
In truth the furniture was a little dated, however this really wasn't an issue and didn't affect it's usage or comfort at all.
There was plenty of food with breakfast, lunch, snackbar and evening meals all available. In truth whilst there was a good variety and it was always to a good standard, it can get somewhat repetitive. As we have been to Albufeira many times before, we had a few restaurants that we like and generally used them for our main evening meal, just a choice thing and not a reflection on the quality of the food served.
The hotel, it's room and outside pool area are all kept to a very clean standard with the most friendly and obliging staff. Nothing was an issue for them. The rooms were made up multiple times when we were there with towels changed etc. each time.
It's location is very good with multiple local restaurants and bars within easy walking distance, 10 mins walk to the busier strip and less than €5 in an Uber to the busier Old Town area.
In truth I would have given it a 4 & 1/2 out of 5, however as I can only rate on whole numbers the positives greatly outweigh any slight negatives so it's a 5 from me.
All in all we had a terrific holiday and would recommend the hotel.

I was very worried going to this hotel after having read some bad reviews but I have to say I was very surprised on arrival. I definitely would not rate the hotel rooms 5 star but they where cleaned every day had everything we needed and always got fresh towels. There was a problem with our booking which was love holidays fault so the hotel gave us a lunch voucher and our room and sorted it out for us. If going all inclusive it is so worth it, you get access to restaurants and bars at the sister hotels, there is a bar on the beach which is so helpful, plenty of sun loungers, pool entertainment each day so I would highly recommend the hotel I'm not sure why it has so many bad reviews

Beautiful place to look at aesthetically but…No daily cleans! No big selection of food, no free bottles of water in rooms they should allow 2 bottles in fridge a least, English barrier is bad not a lot of staff understand English and hardly any sunbeds around pool for a 5 star they are very poor 5 star. Towel charge is ridiculous £12 plus £5 in euros but u only why £5 in euro bag beware of this, I just used the bath towel in the room but my friend wanted to purchase a beach towel.

Don’t go there! When we arrived we were told we had an upgraded room, it was an awful room and it had a terrible view so we asked for another. We were given a room on the top floor and it was late at night by then. The room was terrible but we did not see the full extent of it until the following morning. The balcony glass was filthy and broken with a filthy sun bed on it. The curtains were all hanging off the rails and the sun curtain full of holes and there were holes in the bottom of the bed sheet. The TV didn’t work. That was the good bits, the worst was the bathroom. The bath had some of the enamel off of the bottom of it, both the handles on the bath were rusted and the loo seat kept moving when you sat on it. If we had got the room we had booked we probably would have enjoyed it more as apparently people who had those rooms said they were nice. The restaurant left a lot to be desired, the food was just warm and mostly the same every day. One day the hot plate wasn’t even turned on and the pork in it wasn’t even warm. We told the chef and he just said they must have forgotten to put it on! The only place to get a drink in the day was in the bar in the restaurant and you could not go in there with swimwear on. There was a bar and snack bar round the pool but it only opened from 3.30 to 5.30 which seemed ridiculous to me. We were given a leaflet showing us the entertainment programme but hardly any of it ever happened. There was a singer for two nights and a quiz that lasted half an hour at the most on one night and the rest of the time it was just a guy playing disco music. Anything else on the leaflet never happened. It is definitely a hotel for youngsters and not older people or families. The beach isn’t 500 metres away as stated on the website, it may be as the crow flies, but to walk it takes a 15 minute walk along a steep hill. I have stayed in much better 2 star hotels, this is definitely not 5 star! Don’t waste your money going there.

Hotel is ok, but no way near 5 stars. In need of some maintenance work throughout especially by the pool area. Pool gets extremely over crowded and its difficult to find a space by the pool. Hotel states they do not allow large group bookings but we found groups of 10+ during our stay. Make sure you take fly/bug spray as there is a lot of flies around the pool area attracted by the drinks/food left around.
When checking in be careful what information is passed onto you. The reception staff cater the information depending on the type of people booking in. A group of young men were told all the sister hotels restaurants were fully booked and unable to book a meal but the next family group were booked into another restaurant straight away. The group sizes were exactly the same so wasn't a table issue.
2 men booked in and where told about the larger quiet pool in the hotel opposite with a gym and spa they could use but the 2 females who booked in were told about a hotel a little way down that had a bakery.
The surrounding area can be quiet busy and noisy at night, be aware of the drug dealers as they approach you to offer to drugs when walking down the road.
There is two bus stops directly outside. The number 2 bus across the roads takes you directly to the old town for just 2 euros! and you can catch the number 4 bus back to the hotel. You can also catch the number 3 bus from old town directly to the marina. Bus drivers are very friendly and speak fantastic English. They are happy to point out which stop you need for where you want to go. I would highly recommend using the buses for transport as the Tuc Tuc's and taxies are very expensive. If you need a taxi I would advise to use Uber as this is much cheaper then the taxi's that are on the street. A normal taxi wanted 15 euro's for 2 people to go to the marina but Uber was only 6!
Some really lovely bars and restaurants locally to eat out and some small shops. If you go up the hill you can get to an Aldi supermarket that has a great selection and more English based foods.
Overall we had a good holiday and were very glad we were self catering as it gave us freedom to stay away from the big crowds of people. We didn't spend much time at the hotel only in our rooms of an evening. We will 100% come back to Portugal but unfortunately would not choose to stay here again.

The hotel has an unbeatable location; It is located throughout the center next to the most important streets full of bars, restaurants, leisure activities and very close to the beach. You can go anywhere on foot without having to use taxis.
The all inclusive is super good! with access to restaurants at the chain's hotels that are very close to each other.
The pool and facilities are very good, it is not a new hotel, but it is being renovated little by little and the quality-price ratio of its services is very good.
Totally recommended for couples and groups of friends.
