Had an amazing stay at Le Penguin Hostel! The staff is always available for a laugh or a drink, the patio is the perfect place to meet great people and share a meal :) Don't hesitate to ask Steve for a Renan Luce song or Adam for one of his amazing life stories! I would definitely recommend this place, tricky thing is, when you get there, you don't wanna leave anymore!
I always say that travelling around and staying in a hostels is amazing. You have the opportunity to meet new and interesting people, which indeed in this hotel happened. Thanks to Adam was so kind trying to help us with everything and trying to organise night outs with the all the visitors. Top plus was that he gave me a cake for my birthday, I didn't expect that, so thank you to Adam and his team. Nice experience, sadly we only spend couple of days.
BEDBUGS! Initially we arrived at le Penguin on Saturday night and were greeted by friendly staff. We went out clubbing on the first night with staff and it was a good experience. After 1 night in the mixed female dorm one of us woke up with several bites all over the body. The bites were very itchy and incredibly uncomfortable! The manager Diego was told about this but was very unhelpful and deceptive. It seemed like he was aware that there was a bedbug issue in the hostel and didn't seem to care. After the second night we saw bed bugs crawling in our beds! The girl we were sharing the room with was also badly bitten on her arm! We realised we had more bites! One of us had OVER 100 BITES! We had to go to the pharmacy to buy creams and tablets for the swelling and itching. This taited our stay at Le Penguin completely as well as our holiday!!After reading other reviews on TripAdvisor we realised this is a known problem to the hostel- disgusting and unacceptable! We had to cancel our plans for the day (Monday) which was a huge inconvenience so we could arrange other accommodation. Luckily we found much better and cleaner accommodation closeby! We tried to call Diego the manager several times but he didn't reply. We sent him a detailed email about these issues and we asked for a partial refund. We had to go back to the hostel for him to do anything helpful and it was only then that he gave us a partial refund of our remaining 4 nights. He gave us the refund without even any discussion and he looked very guilty. After this horrendous experience, we wouldn't recommend anyone to stay there unless management at Le Penguin properly resolve the bed bug issue!!…
This hostel is absolutely superb, The staff who work there are lovely - friendly, approachable and really helpful. I was very comfortable here, so much that I extended my stay in Faro. Clean place, comfy beds, with an excellent shower. Met a big variety of fantastic people. Hostel has a nice chilled atmosphere. Made to feel very welcome. I highly reccomend it. Looking forward to come back soon.
