Cascade Wellness Resort boasts a selection of amenities that are well-received, including pools, a spa, and dining options, although there have been issues such as unavailable sports facilities. While the resort is praised for its prime location near scenic cliff walkways, opinions on value and room quality vary, with some guests feeling the services are overpriced and the rooms lacking in cleanliness and modernity.
The atmosphere blends outdated elements with charm, and the service, though friendly, can be inconsistent.

The Cascade Wellness Resort is a great family resort about 15 minutes out from “downtown” Lagos and is a great location to base for a trip to the Algarve. The resort is newer and its facilities are nice and comfortable. It is a bit outside of town and the harbor where boat excursions take off so just be prepared to uber/taxi when going offsite.
The pool areas are large, nice, and the water is kept at a refreshing temperature. From 12 pm onwards you can order really good poolside food. Pool area is huge and it never felt crowded. We never had any issue getting lounge chairs. There is a very nice spa, but the only hot tub on site is just outside of the spa (and restricted to 16 or older) and disappointingly cool water. Not having hot water in a jacuzzi—especially at a “5 star” is pet peeve of mine, and the temps in the Algarve even in the summer are cool enough that an actual hot tub really would have been nice.
The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable—no complaints there. The ocean views from both the room and the pool area are somewhat tainted by a large amount of yellow grass area between the resort and the seaside cliffs. I realize it’s probably cost prohibitive to keep this entire area green, but it sure would be a lot more aesthetic if it were! (See my photos).
What I will say is absolutely 5 stars is the food at the resort. It was outstanding. We ate at the breakfast buffet every day and the dinner buffet multiple nights. There were a lot of guests so the line at the chef station where they cooked pasta and fish dishes (and omelets in the mornings) got really long, but other than that it was awesome. The last night they had a cover band playing music and an outdoor Portuguese barbecue which was delectable! They also had a fine dining option, Senses, but after we tried the buffet we didn’t even bother because the buffet had so many great options for our 12 year old daughter.
Overall enjoyed our stay, and really enjoyed the food!

Just back from a week long stay at Cascade wellness resort. While the overall experience was positive, there were some negatives. I went with my adult daughter, I had booked a sea view room which we got, but the actual view of the sea wasn’t great simply because the hotel is only two storeys high, so that’s to be expected. We were placed in a double room rather than twin, but the bed was huge and very comfortable so we didn’t mind too much. We were in an adjoining room with kids in the room next door to us, we could hear every sound. The room was nice but small, very clean, lovely bathroom with an amazing shower , and there was no kettle (there was an nespresso machine) we asked for a kettle and one was delivered to the room straight away. The balcony furniture had seen better days., and there was no bin provided other than a small one in the bathroom. The cleaning staff were excellent. We preferred the spa pool as it was so quiet and peaceful, but if we wanted to order food or drinks, we had to go over to main pool which was a bit annoying. One day I ordered a latte and two cold drinks, and they were put in a paper bag for me to carry back to the spa pool. Surprisingly I managed to not spill them. The is also a major shortage of umbrellas, plenty of sun beds, just not enough shade. Also, there is no shop on site, which is necessary especially for those in apartments, Lagos town is about a 40 minute walk away, we usually walked in and got an Uber back. The food in hotel was very good, but very expensive, so we went into town most evenings, much more variety of food and cheaper. The spa is very nice, I enjoyed the steam room and jacuzzi, and had a lovely massage one day too. Whilst we had a lovely week in Lagos, I do not think I would return to Cascade simply because I do not think it was worth the money we paid for it.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We have stayed in this very nice hotel several times. Once again we liked the spectacular location and the very good service of the friendly and competent staff. The food in the gastropub was particularly delicious this year. There is some construction going on on the city side of the hotel. This didn't bother us too much, but if you are sensitive to noise you should ask for a room on the other side. Three small things that we didn't notice positively: A renovation of the otherwise very nice rooms and corridors would not go amiss. Maintenance of the golf area with electric vehicles would certainly be quieter and more modern. Lastly: For a wellness hotel we found it a bit too noisy and too loud this year due to the many small children. Overall, however, this did not spoil our enjoyment of the holiday because the many extraordinarily positive experiences outweighed the negative ones.

Unfortunately this would not be a place I would return. We travelled as two adults and three teenagers and stayed in a two bed apartment. The previous reviews are very true to their word. My two teenage boys had football boots/kits packed for this break to use the football pitches as shown in photos. On arriving I asked about when they can use the pitches and told no they are not available to use by guests! Asked how this can be and told they were booked all day and all night. We had arrived at 1pm and told we would be texted when our room is ready. We ended up going back to the reception that evening after getting no text and the keys were provided. Our boys went to the reception to get tennis rackets to play tennis, after hiking down to the tennis courts (good walk) it started to rain/thunder so they came back. Later the evening we were called to the reception to say we had a €15 bill to pay for the use of the rackets. Our apartment was located right next to the football pitches so the boys could look at the pitch which was used for 3 hours on the first morning and not a sinner on it again for the week. The apartment are dated and the air conditioning didn't work in the bedroom, the press handles are dirty and the fridge made a piercing alarm noise that would keep you awake at night. Like similar reviews the shower gel containers were empty from arriving to leaving.
Did I complain, no, nothing was enough to make me want to stand at a reception and waste hours of my holidays. We got out most mornings and stayed out for the day. I thought it would be the opposite in this resort. The main building was very nice but we only walked through it really. The boys did enjoy the games room and thankfully I didn't have to pay for the rental of the cue and balls!
I always rate accommodate relative to the cost of the stay and unfortunately would not rate this highly. If you are going to stay here, the locations is great for walks and the beach, and Lagos is a lovely place to visit.

All the way up until we got to our room I was excited for this stay. The photos looked phenomenal, the amenities looked great, and the activities they promoted on site looked perfect for what we wanted our vacation to entail. Unfortunately that is not how this trip ended.
After check-in we went to our room, which was a double sea view room. Compared to photos online the room was much smaller. However the view was amazing! Immediately after dropping our stuff we start to hear beeping in our room, but it's none of our stuff. It's the safe next door, because we are staying in a room with a conjoined door that was super thin. Not only could you hear every conversation and moment the next door neighbors baby was uncomfortable, but there was a large key hole that you could see right through into the other room. My wife is a very accommodating traveler, but this was even too much for her.
I went to the front desk to raise this concern and was only met with a no due to a complete sell out of the property. One of the front desk staff gave me a dirty look when I mentioned the request to not be connected to a room with a small child as we were not traveling with children.
Also the furniture in the room and on the patio hasn't been updated in many years as the whicker on the patio table was missing on half the table and the lamp shade was missing trim where only glue was exposed now. The only trash in the room was in teh bathroom and that was broke as well. These things, while small, are not what I expect when paying nearly $500/night for a five star hotel.
Leaving the room we went to the bar to get our free welcome drink, which was limited to items off menu and hardly drinkable. So then we went for a walk. The outdoor area that they use in their promos that looks like a beautiful place to do yoga on a lush green lawn was completely dead. Oh and they don't offer yoga classes either.
We continued our journey to the gym, and while they do offer classes they are sporadic and the facilities are across the street in a weird complex that is also very run down. My wife also tried to go to the gym at 7:15am one day and the gym was inaccessible. If you were trying to work on your golf swing on property as their ads in the lobby suggest you can, that is a no go. The driving range looks like it's been run down for at least several years. Rusted garage door and no semblance of a range anymore.
Food was fine, but significantly overpriced. Service staff was nice as was the breakfast.
If I were to book in Lagos again I would definitely look elsewhere, especially for the money we spent here. Not even a sea view could overcome the mountain of disappointment this property gave us.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The grounds and our apartment were stunning. Housekeeping was excellent and very professional. We loved having a kitchenette and it was a lifesaver to have a washer/dryer. Food was generally very good and one of us eats gluten-free. It was pleasantly surprising how many gluten-free options there were (including pastries at breakfast and what seemed like fresh-baked hamburger buns at lunch).
The shower/water pressure was the best we've ever had at a hotel.
While we were there, the resort hosted a community event with dancing and food stands. It was really cool and made us feel part of the community.
Also Lagos is a great little town. We loved the area.
Suggestions for the resort: * would have loved to have a full-length mirror somewhere in the apartment and/or a small mirror for makeup * it would have been nice if the gym offered group exercise classes maybe in the mornings for a small number of guests

We received a warm welcome and staff were friendly. We upgraded to a sea/pool view room for an extra €43 per night but our room was no different to others in our party, except that the decor was newer. The room was spacious, massive comfy bed, had an excellent balcony and great bathroom, huge soft fluffy towels and bathrobes. The shower was wonderful and we had a turn down service every night. 5 stars for the rooms. The restaurants were good and staff excellent, good choice of food especially the breakfast and dinner buffet. Staff were attentive and helpful. 5 stars for the restaurants and bars. The queue at breakfast was long and there was only one person checking people in, taking them to their table and explaining the set-up, there should be a better process for this. Once seated for breakfast the waiting staff were quick and efficient to bring tea and coffee and clear plates. The queue for freshly cooked eggs was long and tiresome, with one person cooking very slowly, there should be a more efficient way of this offering. Finally the grounds and pools: good to have the two pools, however the pool bar at the sandy pool was closed, not good when you have to walk a long way to get a drink and food. They will do room service if your apartment is near the pool but this is €7.50 There are no pool attendants or life guards on duty and towels get left around all day reserving beds that could be used. The towel process is pointless, you’re given a card for towels, but when you return them there’s often no one there and you don’t get a card back. You can just take towels at the sandy pool so the card process seems pointless. great spa with yet another pool and reasonably priced treatments. The golf is closed due to some building work next door. this doesn’t feel like a 5 star, it’s over priced for what you get and needs improving. The hotels needs some maintenance - broken tiles on the entrance, broken decking around the spa pool and generally needs a tidy up around the grounds. There seems to be a staff shortage hence no pool bar but the ones that are there work very hard. If there were more staff, the grounds tidied and the rooms all the same decor standard it could be a 5 star but I don’t think it is.

Booked hotel as a special treat as was advertised as 5* but sadly this was not the case in our opinion as the decor and furnishings were very dark and dated We had to have lights on all the time which still didn’t make much difference to the brightness of the room A light bulb was broken which we reported several times to reception and were told it would be replaced but still up until check out it was not done as was the blind which fell off its rails when we opened it on arrival and remained on the floor throughout our stay The AC was not able to be adjusted and the room remained in a very cold atmosphere having to sit with towels around us to keep warm and is unacceptable and this we reported several times as well with the the above issues Reception informed us the AC had been adjusted but this was not the case and the only way to turn off the AC was to take the card out but then the room was in darkness with no electricity The take away breakfast was very poor white bread sandwich with thin piece of ham and no butter offered coffe but this was not in the bag The dining room and breakfast selection were excellent with good choice staff worked tirelessly and always pleasant and welcoming The housekeepers were very good and always willing to offer service if required On checkout reception staff never asked if we enjoyed our stay or even a goodbye The hotel needs major investment to do the justice of a 5* hotel with tiredness of the rooms Unfortunately we would never recommend this hotel or return ourselves unless there was major improvements

The location and grounds are spectacular, especially the ease to get onto the boardwalk and walk along the scenic and beautiful coastline. The rooms are spacious, well decorated, and very clean. Service at the restaurants is very slow and the food is over priced compared to most restaurants in the area. Some design flaws included a shower door and rain that resulted in water pooling outside of the shower and right by the toilet ... a big slip and fall risk.

Let me start by saying Cascade was set up to be one of my favourite resorts in Portugal, though this was diminished on our first evening when we found ants crawling throughout the room when we returned from dinner. On calling guest services they offered to send a cleaner to spray the room. ..to which I just asked them to leave the spray and we'd do it ourselves. Over the course of the trip the ants did diminish but were not non existent. How, were we not moved immediately so they could sort this? In retrospect, shocking service and not what you'd expect from 5 star resorts.
The grand finale however came when we returned to our room on our final night after an evening of Fado, to find an enormous cockroach scuttling over the floor. Again, shocking to not have more attention for these issues and absolutely not the experience you'd expect for a premium resort.
