We stayed here for 7 days in mid September and loved it. It is a labyrinth like beautiful building with courtyards, amazing view of the ocean and the Vila Franca do Campo Islet, simple and tasteful decoration. Rooms are spacious, staff is smiling and kind and ambiance is terrific. It has a big garden and a pool among greens which...

I really can't say more nice things than have already been shared. This is a unique experience with wonderful and thoughtful service. We arrived well before check in (about 8:30 am) and were greeted with a ready room and offered breakfast as we walked in the door before even unloading the car. Parking is easy and the gas station next...

This is an amazing small hotel housed in a convent from the 1700s. It is on the edge of a darling town, right by the sea. Walking down the hallways of the cloister is a real experience of time travel!! We stayed in a suite that had two bedrooms and a small kitchenette and views to the sea. It would...

We loved this accommodation in the lovely town of Vila Franca do Campo- finding it the best location for exploring the whole island. Having read some of the negative reviews, we considered changing our booking as, at 34 weeks pregnant, I was concerned I would need my home comforts. Luckily I trusted the good reviews and found this sanctuary perfect...

It's location is perfect , centre point in the island and the facilities of the second largest town , with restaurants , beaches and marina . You've got to be prepared to the fact it's different however it's so peaceful and chilled . It's...

Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Convento de Sao Francisco. We stayed for one night in June and wish we could have stayed longer! Staying in the convent is like stepping back in time, it has been wonderfully restored and well kept with stunning views of the Atlantic. The owners could not have been more helpful and welcoming...

I cannot understand any of the three or fewer stars reviews. As other people have said, if you want a chain hotel with standard rooms and facilities this really isn't the place for you, but it is clear from the websites that this is not what you will be getting. Yes there are some discoloured patches on the plasterwork but...

What an amazing place to stay. Beautiful old building, with so much charm and character. You can almost feel the monks, quietly going about their work and prayer. A lovely, simple breakfast was provided. Run by a friendly family, who made us very welcome.
