I reserved this hotel months in advance and read all the reviews so I knew what to expect when arriving at the hotel. We booked a suite and the room is very big, very specious. The mini bar beverages are complimentary and are replaced every day. They had tea kettle as well as an expresso machine in the room. There is a big bathroom with dual vanities, private toilet/bidet area area and a walk in shower, complimentary slippers, robe to wear and they also give you two complimentary straw hats. Nice outdoor balcony overlooking the water, comfortable chairs to sit out at night. The air conditioning in the room was FANTASTIC - it worked wonderfully.
Then a separate tub/shower in front of a window that overlooks a parking lot. The extra lite in the room is nice as the dark black marble bathroom could use more lighting. However I would strongly suggest to the hotel manager that in these suites to please put some sort of curtain you can actually close, the sheer in front of the window still allows anyone in the parking lot to look up and see right into the bathroom/shower area during day and night. The bedroom area is huge there is a nice view of the bay from the side bedroom window. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable and great variety of pillows so 5 STARS there! In the bedroom area the window in front of the TV overlooks a parking lot with graffiti. Unfortunately that is beyond the hotels control as they don't own the property so you can just close the shade to somewhat hide the eye sore. There is a prison on the other side of the parking lot but there is no impact to hotel guests. I heard no loud music at night, I thought the room was very quiet and sound proof for us. I felt safe walking at night time which we did coming back from several dinners.
There was plenty of storage to hang clothes, limited draw space (3) especially if you're staying a week. Nice deep safe with a lite. Every night housekeeping would deliver cookies. Housekeeping the first few days was lacking they wouldn't leave enough towels, or coffee. I brought this up to the front desk staff and once they addressed it the last 3 days were great. The location of the hotel I thought was good, you could walk 1 block to a great restaurant "Michel's" or 3 blocks to a mini mall that had a little grocery store to buy snacks, a souvenir shop, pastry etc. Then is also a small mall you can walk around. We ate at the roof top bar the appetizer fried cod fish balls were excellent! The "Terra" restaurant was ok a bit pricy compared to surrounding restaurants. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent, great variety every morning which was enjoyable. Overall it was a nice stay and if if given the opportunity I would stay again.

Rooms are very accommodating. We were able to do an adjourning room for our family of 5….. (3 beds in one room for the kids) and queen bed for my husband and I. Breakfast is included (buffet) which had a variety of foods (salad, fresh fruit and juices, cheeses, breads, meats, overnight oats, yogurts, smoked salmon. Also had fresh cafe/espresso etc to order as well as pancakes/omelets/eggs freshly made to order. Reception has a variety of activities that they pair with local companies and you are able to book through the hotel (whale watching/dolphin excursions/full or 1/2 day sight seeing tours (which includes pickup and lunch,) farm tours….They have a wine cheese pairing available. They provide a reusable hemp bag and matching hat for free to take home… cookies at night for turn down, fresh water everyday in the room. Laundry service if needed. It’s within walking distance to a huge outdoor pool right on the water) for a small fee ($5 euros for an adult and 2 kids.) There is a rooftop pool at the hotel but it’s on the smaller side. Dinner at their restaurant has fresh seafood dishes… exceptional food!

I stayed at the Octant Ponta Delgada for three nights. After a week-long stay last year, the decision to check in there again was made long in advance. My arrival was warm, I was offered tea and a member of staff took me and my luggage to my room. Last year I had a double room on the fifth floor, but this time I was upgraded to a whale watching room on the sixth floor. The room was more spacious than last year as it didn't have a balcony and I had a perfect sea view from the bed and could even see dolphins. The furnishings were modern and even the curtains were electric, everything was spotlessly clean, including the bathroom with the black tiles. The only thing that could have been a little hotter for my taste was the water for the shower. The selection at breakfast was as good as usual and the staff were friendly, although sometimes very slow and dreamy. I already mentioned in my review from last year that the rooms in the hotel are rather thinly soundproofed, back then I had screaming children in the hallway outside the room. This year, on the last night, I had a room party next door with music and shouting. I felt more like I was in Mallorca than São Miguel. After complaining to reception twice, I would have liked the staff to be a little more helpful. They could have at least knocked and asked for quiet. I had said I would change rooms if it didn't get better, but then decided against it, as I had already stayed in three different hotels in one week - a bad decision on my part, as the party people came back into the next room at around 2 a.m. The experiences of the previous night obviously spoiled the stay, but otherwise I found it very pleasant.

This is a very nice hotel. Located in town close to shopping. Pool area is clean, pool bar is great. Valet parking at front door and out valet was great. A suggestion for those traveling at night from the US, because you arrive early in the morning book the room for the night before because check in time is 3:00 PM and because flights go out late afternoon they do not have the rooms cleaned and vacant for your early arrival. Our travel agent fell short on that note even though we asked numerous times if we would get an early check in.

We were in Ponta Delgada for four nights. There were four of us - two rooms - all adults. The hotel was quite beautiful. The lobby area was very inviting and the rooms were amazing. It was really quite interesting how the doors in the bathrooms either closed in the toilet area or the shower area. Hard to explain but I had never seen that before. Great view of the water and all the boats and nice sunsets. The hotel is located very close to the city center so when you were not touring the island, you could walk anywhere.
As wonderful as the hotel was, I need to give a shout out to the amazing staff at the hotel. Especially Catarina P. My daughter and I do not speak Portuguese and we wanted to order a pizza from a local restaurant one night. Catarina not only helped us order it on the phone, she gave us some suggestions on what to order (great suggestion) and then she sent a staff member in a cab to get the pizza and have it delivered to our room since there was no delivery. That was only one of many great things that she did. She was very customer service oriented. In addition to Catarina, Solange and Rodrigo were also very helpful - always smiling and asking what they could do for us. Everyone else was also helpful but these three stood out for us.
Sao Miguel is a beautiful place and this hotel made it a wonderful experience and I highly recommend staying here.

The Octant Ponta Delgada is an excellent 5-star hotel, located in the heart of Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel. The property enjoys a prime location, overlooking the harbor and offering panoramic ocean views. Its proximity to the city center allows you to easily explore the city. My room is modern, spacious and equipped with high quality comfort, it offers a large balcony with sea view, allowing you to fully enjoy the surrounding panorama. Excellent cleaning of the room. Quiet and well soundproofed. The hotel also has an outdoor pool on the rooftop, ideal for relaxing. The spa offers a variety of treatments, including massage and sauna. The on-site restaurant, "À Terra", serves Portuguese and local cuisine, with vegetarian and vegan options. The Octant, represents for me an excellent choice for a luxurious and comfortable stay in Ponta Delgada, with high quality services and a strategic location for exploring the island of São Miguel. Very attractive lobby with a friendly and efficient staff. Almost all of the employees in every department speak very good English. The buffet breakfast, included at our rate, is excellent and varied enough that you can enjoy it every day. Dinner in the restaurant is also very good . The Whale Watching bar is very comfortable and the servers and bartenders are very helpful should you have any questions about the island. This time of the year the weather changes several times most days going from sunshine to clouds to high winds to rain and back again so be prepared. All in all a wonderful hotel at a very reasonable price.

The team here were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and made our short 24 hour stay wonderful. Nothing was a problem, the concierge worked very hard to help us pack everything in, and the spa team effortlessly accommodated our shower/changing needs before our flight home. They made sure we had towels for our trip to the hot springs as one small example of how our quick trip was accommodated with ease.
Our family room was well set up, clean, large and comfortable.
One never knows what to expect and the hotel exceeded any expectations that I had.

We stayed for 7-nights and enjoyed our time greatly. The hotel itself is very modern inside with contemporary furnishngs and comfortable areas throughout.
We enjoyed our spaciuous standard room with panoramic sea and harbour views. The buffet breakfast was more than enough for anybody. The formal evening restaurant was excellent. The "whale watching" bar on the 7th floor was great. Warm and intimate come evening time.
Staff throughout were polite and efficient and friendly. Special compliments to the efficient house keepers who were nearly always on hand if we needed some extra coffe pods. And the nightly cookie with turn down is a nice touch.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Punta Delgada despite it being on the edge of town, it is still only 10-15 minute walk to the main town areas.

If you want a great view of the harbor and the sea, this is the place for you. The hotel is right on the harbor, in front of which is a busy four-lane road. There are of course other hotels along this road. Design has been given priority over function here. This leads to functional losses that are not necessary. The bathroom, for example, is completely black and very poorly lit, making it pretty much impossible to put on makeup. The lighting in the room itself is also rather indirect. Many things are broken: the illuminated cosmetic mirror, the sink does not drain properly, the toilet push plate is loose, the lock on the balcony door is broken, the phone does not work. There are not enough sockets to charge your cell phone, watch and toothbrush, so you have to keep unplugging them. The room service is negligent, the dishes are not refilled, not put away, not vacuumed, etc. Many small oversights that, taken together, mean that I would not book this hotel again. The breakfast is OK and corresponds to the category. It is very worrying that if you use the stairs instead of the elevator, the emergency exit and all other doors are locked!! To be precise, the stairwell, which is marked as an escape route on the bedroom door in my emergency plan. So in the event of a fire, you are trapped. You would have to walk up the stairs two flights of stairs to the first floor to find an unlocked door. In the event of panic, I think that is impossible.

When I went to Azor hotel the spa was not yet ready but the rooftop pool was open. Depending on what time of year you go will decide whether the pools are swimmable or not. We called to ask if the pools were open and heated in December when we went and they said yes to both. However, when we got there they were not heated and or cleaned, there were worms.
There are more places to choose from in the Ponta Delgada area.
