The room was very airy with very high ceilings and a view into a commercial street. Bathroom was small but perfectly adequate. It looked over a pleasant restaurant where we ate.
Breakfast was the star feature of the experience. A nice variety of local foods served on a tiered cake stand and scrambled eggs was served. We only had the one night at Casa das Palmeiras en route to Flores. We will be back.
To be honnest, as we walked by to scout a bit prior to our arrival, we had some doubt because of the restaurant beside the house as there is a bit of loud music.
But the house is charming (and we were barely disturbed by the music) and is absolutely worth it.
The staff can not be more helpful (they left us a breakfast bag to go as we needed to flee to the airport at an unholly hour).
Our regret is the we had activities planned early in the morning, hence we could not enjoy the breakfast room as much as we would have liked.
It is true that the bathrooms are a bit cosy, but I am a big man and I managed ;)
Go there, you will not regret it!
The best part of the stay were the staff. Super friendly, patient and very informative. They helped me out huge with figuring out day outings to other parts of the island.
Breakfest had a fairly good assortment of food, and there are also 2 restaurants within 100 feet of the hotel.
The room itself was cozy and the perfect size. Due to the shape of parts of the room I ended up smacking my head 6 or 7 times when standing up from the seat or when shaving in the bathroom, however, the low ceilings in parts of the room/bathroom also add to the charm of this particular hotel. My only recommendation is perhaps adding a small bar fridge to the rooms so if anyone is staying for several days they can keep any food/drinks they've bought cold.
I've stayed in many, many hotels across Europe and this was one of the best ones. Thank-you guys for being so awesome! No doubt i'd give this place a 4.5 out of 5. Cheers!
The service staff were excellent during our 9 night stay. We arrived very early, they stored our bags and invited us to breakfast before we could return to check in later in the day.
Our room was clean, spacious enough and very charming. The daily breakfast varied each morning, featuring various egg dishes, baked goods, cheeses, fruits, yogurt and spreads.
Very good location, a short 5 minute walk to many excellent restaurants and the "proper downtown" area.
Cons:
Unfortunately there aren't enough parking spots for all the rooms, we booked over 4 months in advance and all parking had been reserved already during our stay. We found the best place to park was a 6 minute walk to the Antonio Borges Botanical Garden - there's a free lot adjacent to it.
There's no iron available in the room or hotel, which was surprising. The staff did offer to take my clothing to another hotel location and iron it for me, I declined this service, but would recommend that the hotel have at least one on hand for guests to use.
I would recommend Casa das Palmeiras and would happily stay there again on my next visit.
The private toilet was very very small and we felt the room needed more closets , or at least some drawers.
There is a very noisy restaurant / bar downstairs so during the afternoon and late at night you are disturbed by music and noise. Fortunately, because of Covid restrictions, the music was over at 23h, otherwise it would have been difficult to sleep.
The whole building felt really unique and was spotlessly clean throughout. We loved the outside seating area for a glass of wine and our bedroom was enormous and again, kept immaculate. Special thank you to the housekeeping staff who looked after our family of four’s room…
Staff at the desk were more than helpful.
Centrally located so I had expected some noise but actually heard almost none (we were in the top floor so maybe they helped but it was really quiet and we all slept well)
Beautifully laid out tables at breakfast
We will miss this hotel as much as the beautiful island itself. Couldn’t have chosen better
"I'd advise against room 1 as it is at the top of the stairs (which are very loud) so you hear everyone going up and down!"Read full review
