Quinta da Abelheira, is part of The Azorean Bliss Corporation and is located in Faja de Baixo, 4km away from Ponta Delgada, in the Azores. It is surrounded by a huge forest that contains hundreds of unique species. The main building was completely refurnished and has a large porch and several nooks furnished with a cozy surrounding which makes it a perfect location to simply relax or enjoy reading a book. The house is also besides a beautiful garden which has a pool, a place for barbecues and a fresh water fountain built with typical XIX century tiles. Moving along a trail, up the hill, you may enjoy the comforting peace that nature has to offer, along with the singing of different kinds of native birds. At its peak, there is a view that offers a unique sighting of the island and the Atlantic. Those who love the shore, may enjoy the exquisite beaches of dark sand, Populo and Milicias which are less than 2 Km away.

Would definitely recommend this hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and cleaned every day. The breakfast buffet was amazing with lots of variety and the staff helped us to navigate what foods contained nuts to cater for an allergy. One morning we had to leave early for an excursion and so the staff opened up the breakfast buffet earlier. The views at breakfast are beautiful. The pool was lovely and there is an amazing poolside bar serving drinks including delicious cocktails as well as bar snacks such as sandwiches, chips and crisps! One afternoon we had the pool to ourselves and it was a little oasis. Private, secure car parking available on site. A few things that I would mention to improve our experience: there was one day when the pool was green in colour and so we didn’t use it. It was a normal colour the next day and it was clearly cleaned each day. I’m not sure why it turned green one day. The door on our room didn’t close properly unless locked so a small maintenance issue. General amenities in the rooms could be improved. It would be very helpful to have a fridge in the rooms. It is a bed and breakfast so you need to buy lunch and dinner on top. We went to nice restaurants for dinner but wanted to make up some sandwiches for our active days walking and a small fridge would have been amazing. A safe in the room would have been a great addition too to store jewellery and passports etc.

We stayed at Quinta da Abelheira for five days. All in all, it was an excellent experience.
In particular, the staff is really serious about enhancing the stay. They are warm and engaged and full of local knowledge regarding restaurants and activities.
Our first room was small and on the road. I would avoid this if possible. It was booked by our travel agent. The staff graciously found a way to move us to a different, very beautiful room, for which we were particularly grateful. The rooms are all clean and comfortable. There are small inconveniences in the rooms, like no bathrobes, no bar soap, no tissues, and no hand lotion. But these things are minor and outweighed by the really excellent staff.
The pool is beautiful. The breakfast is spectacular. The location is really excellent in that it's close enough to Ponta Delgada for restaurants. But it's far enough away that it's quiet and tranquil. Also, being in the island's center, destinations on the northern, southern, or eastern sides are easily reachable.
We would definitely recommend Quinta da Abelheira and we would stay there again.

Our stay was exceptional at the Quinta da abelheira! We were traveling with two families and ten people spread across a number of rooms. From the time we stepped foot on the property Filipa and Marlene were exceptional and always there if we needed anthing. Filipa helped rearrange rooms to acccomodate proximity to children and made us feel extremely welcome. She also provided tremendous help in planning out our day, helping get a taxi, and answering any questions we had. The property is really nice, swimming pool and pool bar very relaxing and an exception breakfast. Great spot to get into town (~10 min car ride) and out on a days adventure. Would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a place to stay in Sao Miguel.

Just returned from a really relaxing visit to this exceptional property.
Wonderful service from Joanna prior to arrival , with support and recommendations on restaurant bookings . From the moment i left the taxi i was greeted by Marlene with a huge smile and warm welcome. She offered a breakfast because it was only 9am when i arrived from Madrid. She made me feel very welcomed. Rebecca was the chef with the delightful breakfast all three days. A great way to start the day. Filip gave me excellent guidance on where to walk and what to see. She was so very helpful for my first time in Azores. The accommodation is close to city central and 20 minutes to the airport by taxi. A wonderful choice.

Beautiful hotel. Very tranquil. We stayed in the main house. Breakfasts were great & buffet style. You could sit outside & enjoy the lovely views. It’s a bit out of the way so you need taxis to eat in town. The kids loved the swimming pool which was great after a hot day. Weirdly to call reception you had to phone a Portuguese number rather than an internal phone.

Lovely family owned property with a more authentic Portuguese feel than staying in a bigger hotel. Staff were all so friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. Gave great advice on recommended activities. Need a car but great location for getting out and about around the island. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend!

My husband and I have just returned from a week on the Azores. We stayed at this delightful bed and breakfast accommodation about 20 minutes drive from the airport and 10 minutes from Ponta Delgada, the major town on the island.
The bedrooms are furnished simply but comfortably in country style. Bathrooms are a good size. Soaps and towels are provided.
Rooms are located either in the main house or in a small garden block. The house is on a hill and overlooks a minor road with a slighly busier route below. You may wish to request a garden room if you are likely to be disturbed by occasional traffic passing the main house.
The house is spacious and guests may use the lounge area, which has a well stocked honesty bar. There is also a games room with a table tennis table in the basement. There is a small swimming pool in the garden.
A buffet breakfast is provided with a selection of fruit, cold meats and locally produced bread, cheese, jam and tea.
The owners, Ana and her daughter Patricia were exteremely hospitable and attentive to our needs. They also provided us with useful information about the island and restaurants. Their lovely four dogs and goat made quite a fuss of us too!
It is useful to hire a car. I did not notice a bus route near the Quinta. Other parts of the island are easliy accessible and there are a few good restaurants in surrounding towns and villages. We can particularly recommend trying a fish casserole at "Ala bote" in Ribeira Grande and the locally produced pineapples which were delicious. There is a plantation near the guesthouse which is worth a visit. Beaches do not generally hire sunbeds or parasols. However, beach gear can be purchased cheaply from the local hypermarkets.

Nice quiet hotel near Ponta Delgada. Very good breakfast with the beautiful view from the terrace. Comfortable spacious rooms. Friendly staff. The island is small, so You can go around and see every place from this hotel.
