Our 1st time in Azores and hopefully not our last. Thomas Place is a very small, very friendly "place"! All staff are friendly, smiley and helpful. From free towels for the pool, to the room cleaned daily and a fresh breakfast with a beautiful view to the sea, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. There is also use of a fridge for water, etc on the top floor.. We were pleasantly surprised and hope to come back soon. Thank you, Team Thomas Place xx
Pros: Good location Nice staff Big rooms Cons: Super small shower Rooms in the front are super noisy with the manhole cover and all the cars passing during the day. No A/C or any sort of ventilation in the room, so if you want some fresh air, you have to open the window, but it gets so noisy outside that you don’t want to open the window. If you’re staying here for more than 3 days, you’ll get bored with the breakfast because there’s absolutely no variety.
We stayed here for 6 nights and had to change rooms after the first night due to the street noise, especially the manhole cover! The back was very quiet. Breakfasts were the usual and unvaried but fine. The real treasure is the staff. All of them were friendly and very helpful. We are staying again on the way home! Easy walking to all of the city.
This hotel (recently changed from a hostel) is basic, but a great option because the price is so reasonable. The location is perfect, easy walk into the centre of the town, along the beautiful cobbled streets. There is lots of free on-street parking on the roads next to the hotel. We were able to park directly in front of the hotel and see our car from our balcony. Alternatively you can use the secure car park behind the hotel, but that costs a few euros a day and you need to give a €50 deposit for the access card. The room was reasonably spacious. Quite basic decor and furniture, but absolutely fine for using a a base. The bathroom was brand new, all very clean and the shower was excellent. Only a general all-purpose-people-wash is provided, so bring your own toiletries. A travel cot, including sheets and a duvet, was provided for us. A simple breakfast (breads, jams, cheese, ham, natural youghurt, muffins, coffee and juice) is provided. The breakfast room and adjacent terrace have lovely views and the small kitchen area (including fridge) is available for guest use anytime. It is forbidden to eat/drink in the bedrooms, so you'll need to use this room if you want to have a snack. We spent 2 nights here and then moved to a beachside hotel with more facilities. Thomas Place is idea for a few days in the city, if you don't need a pool, gym, restaurant, room-service etc. If we are in Ponta Delgada again, we would definitely stay here.…
If staying at this hotel in the next little while call them and ask for a room at the back of the hotel! There is a loose manhole cover just outside the hotel and every time a car passes over it you hear the annoying sound of the loose manhole cover. The road outside the Hostel is a busy one and car traffic is constant till about two in the morning with a break until 5 AM.The Hostel is very clean and neat and the staff are accommodating but had we known this would’ve been an issue we would’ve asked for a room in the back when we booked a few months ago. Don’t let the review turn you off, check to see if you can get a room in the back of the building.
