Great hotel for a getaway or business trip. We went as a couple to enjoy Magic Spa and it didn't disappoint. Would prefer a larger shower head in the bathroom but on the other hand, Castelbel toiletries always won me over. Nice breakfast, would love to see some more vegan choices though. On the downside: room felt a little sultry at night and someone in heels on the upper floor woke me up at 2:30 am (this is not the Hotel fault, and not sure what it could do to prevent it - but if you read this and it was you, maybe take the shoes off next time? Thank you.).

Nicely renovated hotel, however, our room could have done with a lick of paint and the rug in the bedroom cleaned as 2 large stains No minibar just an empty fridge. Kettle with 3 flavoured teabags but no coffee or milk. €5 to replenish Spa hotel but no robes or slippers Grouting in the bathroom needed redoing Breakfast was ok but no tomatoes or fried eggs. Indoor swimming pool not very inviting Not very good value for money

The building (and old hospital) is amazing. My room was gigantic. I was traveling with 2 kids. They had a comfortable sofa bed in a separate section of the room. Parking is easy and free. The location is perfect. Very close to the city center without the typical burden of driving through tricky and narrow streets.

We stayed two nights in a superior room so we could visit Viseu The hotel is nice, great position for walking in to the town Room was very clean, large, good bathroom although in a room at this price I would have expected a normal shower not just an above bath shower All the staff we met were lovely particularly the barman who was really nice and very helpful The only real complaint we would have was the dining experience in the restaurant The restaurant lacked an atmosphere and had tables with glass tops like a cafe There was only one waiter with two young helpers who seemed a little stretched and didn’t have time to interact at all. The meal was the most expensive we have had in five years in Portugal and not worth the price Apart from the cost there was a definite style over substance feel, the soup my wife had was cold and lacking any taste. We had a polvo taster that was gratis but before my wife finished the polvo her soup was brought and put on the table. Usually a waiter will only bring the next course when you have finished eating the previous one. The wine was very expensive even for the house wine and the sobremesas didn’t cone up to the descriptions in the menu Our main courses were tasty, robalo and cubed veal but not fine dining. Overall a disappointment and left us feeling we had overpaid for an underwhelming experience. We had a meal the second night at a local restaurant called Araquesa that specialises in beef which was much better with a nice ambience, very friendly and engaging waiters, superb food and reasonably priced. We stayed Sunday and Monday nights which on reflection wasn’t a good choice as a lot of restaurants are closed Sunday nights and all the museums are closed on Monday The cathedral was well worth visiting, we did go Tuesday morning before we left to visit Grao Vasco museum next to the cathedral but it wasn’t our taste just a lot of dark and dreary religious paintings, we also had a look in the Misercordia across the square which has a museum which didn’t excite either. Having said all that we loved Viseu which is a lovely town to walk around and will certainly go back there sometime and stay at the Pousada again

This building is a very impressive restoration of an historic and large hospital from the 19th century. There is a grandeur and beauty to this building when you first come upon it. The main lobby is spacious and contemporary, but it is also austere and has a "cold" feeling to it - the atmosphere is not particularly welcoming. Some color/art and wonderful Portuguese cultural elements would go a long way to bring some life to the entire complex. The rooms are spacious but somewhat bland; the walls are decorated with black and white photos of the restoration of the building, but additional color is needed. We were disappointed to see that the rooms have become run-down (this was a second stay), in our room the dark floors were quite scratched and the shower curtains were moldy on the bottom. This is a great building with immense potential but needs some additional maintenance and care with its rooms. The front desk was friendly and professional. The breakfast room was okay but the less than average coffee from the coffee machines is not on par with the potential of this pousada.
