Set on the absolute waterfront of Cascais’s dramatic Atlantic coastline, Farol Hotel reflects the unique charm of the township. Delightful old-world houses and cobbled streets frame a graceful bay on Portugal’s spectacular Estoril Coast to tell the story of a bygone era. The capital, Lisbon and the international airport are an easy 35-minute drive along excellent roads. A local train also runs between the city and Cascais. Lisbon is served by full service and budget airlines from all the major European hubs, which include Frankfurt, Paris, London and Zurich plus Stockholm, and Moscow. Arrive fuss-free and in style at Lisbon International Airport with a pre-arranged Farol Hotel limousine to meet you and transfer the short scenic trip to Cascais. As a proud member of prestigious Design Hotels, Farol Hotel is a wonderfully eclectic composition of adventurous architecture that embraces a remodeled 19th century private mansion that was once owned by the Count of Cabral, together with unique contemporary additions. The result is an inspire union of the old and the new. The Farol Hotel has a non-smoking policy in all its areas.

My wife and I stayed at the Farol for a couple of days during our trip to Portugal. We decided to stay on the outskirts of Lisbon and the Farol is about 20 minutes out right on the Atlantic in Cascais. The hotel is boutiquey, small and intimate with great art and design throughout the hotel. Most of the rooms have been recently updated as was ours. Our room was beautiful and had an incredible view of the ocean and especially the sunset. The staff were all very nice and accommodating especially Monica at reception. They have two restaurants, The Mix and Sushi Design, both are excellent options. They also have a great bar and pool area. The location was perfect for us. It is close to attractions like Sintra and the town of Cascais is very picturesque and Lisbon is only a short drive. I would visit this property again

If you want to visit Lisbon but don't want to stay in the city, then Cascais is the perfect place. 40 minutes on the train to the city and also close to Sintra. Plus Cascais has so much to offer itself: beautiful beaches, great restaurants and sites to see. We stayed in the autumn half term. The weather was foggy and rainy, but it was warm and we still had a wonderful time and can't wait to revisit. The Farol is an okay hotel. We chose a sea view room, and the views are perfect - looking right over the rocks and sea, you can lie in bed and listen to the waves. The pool closed the day we arrived, which was a surprise, as the website hadn't mentioned this when we booked and it was one of the reasons we had chosen this hotel. Positives: Fantastic comfy bed and powerful, hot shower; nice products; lots of choice for breakfast; friendly staff: they booked taxis for us to Sintra. The pool area (although closed) was lovely - it will be sensational in the summer months. Negatives: The bar and the restaurant are very, very expensive. The mini bar charges were silly and there was also a 1 x Euro charge per coffee in your room - a bit unnecessary when you are paying 'Boutique' rates. The food in The Mix and Sushi restaurant was terrific, but we really couldn't afford to eat there every night. The Farol is in a prime location, I imagine that perhaps it was just not the place for us.

Lovely boutique hotel with beautiful views of the sea. Lovely friendly welcome by staff upon arrival. Always willing to help with any queries. Very good food, however breakfast choice very limited and food tended to run out rather quickly and staff sometimes slow to replace. Had to ask a few times to replace! Also our room was very very small. Space very limited so I never unpacked my bag. Bathroom space also very limited. We used the bidet to put our toiletries as there was simply not enough room to put anywhere else. Also ran out of toilet paper which wasn’t replaced so had to ask for it. I would still be happy to recommend this hotel as location is within walking distance of Cascais. However if booking I would advise to request room with sea view as they appear to be bigger. Also much nicer views. Overall though a very pleasant stay.

Dear Mrs. Brenda Gillian, Your generous comments regarding your stay at Farol Hotel are much appreciated and we thank you for taking the time to share them with us. It is the highest compliment to receive praise from guests in appreciation of our efforts to make every stay truly enjoyable. We regret that you experienced some shortcomings and that your expectations were not fully met. Please be assured that your remarks will be heeded. As for too small rooms on the upper floor: Converting the 19th century historic mansion of the Count of Cabral into today’s Farol Hotel resulted in a charming link to a bygone era, albeit a time when rooms were cosier and windows smaller than we are used to in contemporary times. Currently, we are embarking on a programme to creatively remodel guestrooms and bathrooms, as the structure will allow. We look forward to welcoming you back soon and to creating more special moments and unique experiences. With kind regards, Farol Hotel Management

We decided to go here for lunch after seeing that the Hotel were advertising a €35 per person lunch deal which included 3 courses a glass of wine and coffee. We arrived and were shown to our table and handled an a la carte menu and no drinks menu, we had to ask about the lunch offer and was told there was a set courses and no menu, we had a cheese and strawberry salad , sea bass, and chocolate mousse. Everything was good but not brilliant, the surroundings though were beautiful, I think they could do with promoting the offer and expanding the menu as the restaurant was pretty quiet.

Had dinner in the restaurant. It was EXCEPTIONAL. The barrata was delicious and desserts amazing. You just have to try the creme brulee too. We met the Chef to compliment him and he described where the ingredients were from and why the dishes were created the way they were. The waiters and customer service was five star. The setting quite breathtaking on the Atlantic Ocean. Highly recommend eating here.

Hello Do all Seaview rooms have useable balconies please? Many thanks
No they don't all have usable balconies, some of them are 'Juliette balcony', ring the hotel to ensure you have one of the room above the pool with the balconies that have table and chairs. They are the best.

Best way to get around is by renting a car with GPS if you planing to visit Lisbon. I would not use the train; is my advice. Good luck
