As high-lighted, this hostel is on the 4th floor of a building, without an elevator. There was also no name of the hostel at the entrance - a helpful staff from the neighbouring restaurant confirmed the location. We had booked a Private Twin Ensuite room but have to settle for a double as someone had taken our room. The double...

My sister and I visited Lisboa from late May into June. This was my first hostel stay experience, and if this is what they're about, I'm all in! Karim at Sweet Home hostel is super nice. I reserved the room online, but my card was not charged until I was installed in my room. We chose a private double room,...

My boyfriend and I stayed in the double bed with ensuite room for 4 nights. It was in a perfect location - easy to get to and from the airport, central to all the attractions, restaurants, and cafes. The room was clean and well taken care of. The bathroom was large - although we did find that there wasn't a...

Very affordable hostel, which is fresh and has the necessary facilities. Located very central in the area Baxia. By far the biggest asset is the hostel owner Karim, who gives tips about the city and answer any questions regarding excursions oh restaurants. We had a great weekend, thank Lisbon and Karim. This hostel is very centrally located, walking distance to all the amenities. Rooms are clean and big enough. The hostel is very quiet, ideal for couples not so much for backpackers who want to meet people. It's very good value for money as all the rooms are brand new and very clean. However, the staff is a bit unhelpful as...

The hostel is new, so everything is very clean and nice, can't really complain regarding state of hygiene or anything you usually encounter in hostels.. The rooms were nicely decorated, and although ours was quite small, it was because it had a bathroom en suite. What I lacked was a common room..or at least a bigger kitchen. If more then...

This hostel is located parallel to one of the Lisbon's main streets. In my opinion its location is perfect. Rooms are spacious and luminous, with new furniture. There is kitchen with a fridge that you can use at your convenience. Breakfast also was included in the price. The owners were uber-polite, non intrusive, giving good advice about Lisbon. The bad...

This hostel is a very clean and comfortable place. It has an awesome central location, yet the room was quiet. The owners are very nice people who gives you tips where to go. SImple breakfast is included. A good choice at a good price! Oh, and they have Wi-Fi for free, too!

If Sweet Home hadn't been on the 4th-- or was it 5th--??-floor... if there had been one more shared-bathroom, and if I didn't thinking giving 5 stars might make even the most conscientious proprietors rest on their laurels, then Sweet Home would have gotten 5 stars. The brother and sister team of Anna and Karim were the perfect combination of...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
