Palacete Chafariz d'el Rei, a member of Unlock Boutique Hotels, is located in the heart of Lisbon, in one of the city's most emblematic neighbourhoods: Alfama.

Palacete do Chafariz D'El Rei is a eclectic buiding with neo-Moorish style, dating from the end of the XIX century. With Art Nouveau Brazilian interiors, which were very usual at the turn of the century.

Palacete Chafariz D’el Rei breathes history in all its architectural features, as well as in the decorative elements, which make it unique in the region. In 2007, it underwent a careful recovery process, where every detail was planned to transform it in line with Charm House concept.

This beautiful hotel started as a private residence built by a successful coffee merchant. Rooms are named after his daughters and nieces and was built above Lisbon’s first public clean water fountain.

The style here is classic elegance. Rooms are large and well appointed. We stayed in the ‘Lola’ Room with high ceilings, separate lounge area and a fantastic view of the river.

This hotel has buckets of charm and is very basic in its services. No room service, bar area and some of the other amenities you would expect from a typical hotel. Think of it more as an upmarket bed and breakfast, with WiFi.

The Alfama area is also full of locals and great Fado Bars as well as lunch spots. About a 15-20 minute walks to Barrio Alto and other more central sights.

Really feel like we have been transported back in time and enjoyed every second of this Alfama Portuguese experience.

This boutique hotel, with just 6 bedrooms, is exquisite! It’s front door is hidden away down a narrow street, as soon as it’s opened you enter into the most magnificent hallway with bright colourful stain glass windows and ornate rooms off the hall. Breakfast is eaten in a very high end dining room, which I found exceptionally relaxing and peaceful. You are severed freshly squeezed fruit juices, pastries, hams & cheeses, yoghurts, freshly cut fruit, eggs & bacon. All of which tastes amazing.
Our bedroom was also incredible, overlooking the river and we were fortunate enough to have a balcony (which other rooms don’t). The staff couldn’t do enough for us, they were so friendly and polite. I can’t wait to return again!

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, unique hotel. It was a bit tricky to find the first time, but if you follow the signs beside Taylor's and trust going thru the alley and up the stairs, you won't be disappointed once you ring the bell and are greeted. The winding staircase up to the suites could be difficult for anyone with mobility issues, but otherwise it's definitely worth the walk. The 'Paula' room on the top floor was very spacious and comfortable, with amenities we weren't expecting, like a bar, stove top and fridge. The room has a nice view overlooking the river (sometimes with cruise ships) and while there is a/c it was lovely to have the windows open and appreciate the breeze from the water. We also really loved the breakfast - super fresh, daily made juices, pastries, meat and cheese - a perfect way to start the day. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful "home" over the weekend. Upon arrival we were greeted by Xavier who provided us with a wonderful description of the history of this home/mansion/hotel and showed us the various communal rooms including a small chapel. We stayed in the "Amaya" suite which was beautiful and spacious and had a balcony where we could sit and enjoy a view of the river. The staff, including Xavier and Isabel, went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable - we truly felt like royalty, for at least a couple of days!

With only 6 spectacular rooms, you will be very lucky if you are able to stay at this amazing place in the Alfama! Although everything is updated and super clean, you feel like you step back in time when you enter this rich, glittering oasis in the midst of the most beautiful and historic neighborhood in all of Lisbon. Every room is unique and special, and the staff is even better - accommodating and exceptionally courteous. This is the only place we would consider when we are lucky enough to return to Lisbon!

I booked the Palacete hoping to feel like Royalty to celebrate a special birthday - I wasn’t disappointed! 👸 We were welcomed wholeheartedly by the warm and genuine staff who can’t do enough to make you feel at home. We treated ourselves to the King Suite which has three floors topped by a balcony with a 360 degree view of Alfama, the oldest part of Lisbon. We were served an astonishingly good breakfast on our terrace on the first morning, but enjoyed the stunning dining room the next couple of mornings as we felt guilty watching the lovely staff patiently (and skilfully!) carrying everything up the winding staircases! (They assured us it was no big deal). Location, location, location - they say. Couldn’t ask for a more perfect position to explore this amazing City. Our Suite was spotless, furnished with beautiful, quirky furniture. The amazing shower was bigger than our entire bathroom at home 😂! What a treat. Don’t hesitate to come here if you have the chance.

The front desk staff, Xavier, Tiago, Bruno and Danilo went out of there way to provide a wonderful experience from our arrival to our departure from carrying our luggage up the stairs, making reservations, and securing taxis. Breakfast was excellent every morning, and we were provided a boxed breakfast with cappuccinos the morning we traveled to Sintra. We had cocktails on the balcony outside reception under a canopy of beautiful flowers with a view of the river. The tower room was lovely with an amazing two level balcony. Emerson and Oziel kept the room extraordinarily well kept. The area around the hotel, Alfama, was so charming and authentic. It was the perfect beginning to our vacation.

We found this hotel and its staff to be incredible. Staying in this gorgeous home built in 1909 feels simultaneously like stepping back in time and a visit through a museum. We stayed in the Amaya suite which has a private balcony over looking the river (note, as some reviewers mentioned, there were cruise ships parked outside for about half the time, but we didn’t mind that and had chances to enjoy the view). The breakfast is delicious and staff tended to our every need.

We love history, antiques, museums and unique experiences so this was perfect for us. That said, if you do not have an appreciation for these types of things, maybe not the best place for you…?

We will be back!

This is one of the most beautiful hotels we’ve stayed in down to the smallest details. The decor, ambiance and level service are tip top! The manager, Xavier, and his team go above and beyond. Breakfast options are plentiful and so tasty. It’s location is perfect to explore the old town or get into the city centre. A hidden gem!

A magical stay in a historic home. Just 6 huge rooms with beautiful views, a luxurious home that will take you back. With stained glass windows and palatial dining rooms. The breakfast was also spectacular. There loads of stairs and access to the hotel is not easy, again many stairs, but it really adds to the charm of this hotel. It was relaxing, no one was in a hurry, you felt warm and welcome. I would keep coming back. Very conveniently located near everything.

It was pointed out to us by Maria of the Palacete. It is just in front of the building along the river. Difficult to explain as the entrance to the Palacete is from the back up some stairs on a little side street. But the facade looks onto the river. The parking is across the street and on the river front. Hope this helps. In any case it is easy to leave the car for a few minutes on a meter and go into the hotel. They will come and get your luggage if you need help.
