My wife and I enjoyed an amazing brunch on our first anniversary. The service and food were both five star. Definitely recommend Chafariz D'el Rei to anyone looking for a beautiful and tranquil place to eat and enjoy great views.

I was tempted not to review this little gem because I wanted to keep it quiet, but the secret is already out. Look, this is not the finest hotel in terms of being plush with all the bells and whistles, but it is seriously breathtaking to stay at if you want a traditional Portuguese building with outstanding personal service, the...

The hotel is lovely, but very difficult to find. We gave our taxi driver the address provided by the hotel, but he was unable to find it and we had to go walking, carrying our luggage up the steep, narrow cobblestone streets to find the front door. We were welcomed warmly by the woman in the reception, but then told...

I loved this luxurious boutique hotel. I was there during the June festival season and at this time of year it will not be quiet, but it will be fun. The rooms were a nice mix of classic and mod, the staff were charming (took excellent care of me when I developed a cold while there), and the location is...

Palacete Chafariz is so beautiful! it's quite magical inside... The stained glass in particular is just stunning. A tiny treed patio with flowers and a fountain, as well as a hidden alcove with all sorts of stonework, awaiting discovery. The breakfast was nice too, inside another wonderful room! The Alfama neighborhood is very historical and you can walk and enjoy...

The charming hotel with its super staff is always a very warm and welcoming place. What a pleasure to return to this oasis of peace after a busy day in the beautiful city of Lisbon. Breakfast is excellent and a good event to prepare you for the day. Overall, just heaven! Many thanks to the excellent team.

A friend and I (both from London) had a great stay here. Breakfast was very generous and was served all day until 4pm. The hotel is within walking distance of some important tourist sights and the staff speak fluent English and were super helpful in helping us plan our day trips - very knowledgeable. It helps that there are only...

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this amazing boutique property! Our suite was spacious, comfortable and charming. A beautifully restored combination of old and new. Our sitting room looked out on the picturesque Tagus River. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was perfect and other snacks and beverages were served throughout the day. Since the front...

One of the most unique and most memorable places I've stayed. The staff is phenomenal. Amazing service just seemed to come natural and always with a smile from everyone we met during our stay. Their recommendations for everything we asked for were also top notch. The house itself was originally built as a family home by Lisbon residents (brothers I...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
