This is a wonderful hotel in a great neighborhood. The rooms are spacious, bright and clean. The daily breakfast is a great buffet, with delicious coffee and juices, in a pretty room and garden. The staff is warm, friendly and happy to help with any questions about Lisbon. The neighborhood is pretty, leafy, and a nice respite ftom Lisbon's center. It has some great restaurants, cafes wnd shops. Stay here and you'll have a great experience.

Da Estrella is a good choice for a calm stay in a residential neighborhood near central Lisbon.
POSITIVE : quiet, clean, friendly staff, central.
NEGATIVE : very basic breakfast, relatively weak WiFi, uncomfortable pillows (no alternatives available).

We were very disappointed with this hotel. The first room we were allocated (room 5) had a broken toilet flush so it sounded like we had a waterfall in our room. The receptionist was the only staff member on site (lone working) and had to make a number of calls before she could get this fixed. There were no rooms to transfer to. On top of this, the TV in the room dd not work. We were then moved to room 2 which had a crack in the bath tub so water was stagnating under the tub leaving a damp smell.

The hotel had limited facilities and no atmosphere; I have no idea how they were included in a luxury hotel listing.

However, we should praise the staff at the hotel as they were fantastic and very helpful. Breakfast was very well presented and nothing was too much trouble.

So listed as 4 star, no way is it, I would say 2.5 or 3 at best.
A renovated school, which shows in most areas, the carpets in room were black and white like a blackboard, metal shutters at “window” our view was of a crane.
You have to climb in the bath to have a shower the water leaked all over the floor each time, we reported it on next day it still wasn’t resolved, very dangerous.
No tea/coffee facilities in room. The TV was small and only a few English channels not that we watched much of it.
Also only one mirror in bathroom. No privacy as the glass was see through.
The breakfasts were disappointing as in not much choice.
The area isn’t great either not much around, so either walking or metro.
It’s known as city of hills and it really is everywhere we went was either up or down!
I won’t be returning.

Check in was a disaster, no wait but took almost an hour.. Not clean upon arrival. No greet or help with bags. Rude customer service!! We booked for 3 days, left after 2 hours and ate the cost. Stayed elsewhere. Parking is $15 a day and if you pass upon arrival it will take at least 30 minutes to get back around too.

Really enjoyed or stay, rooms and bed excellent, good shower, staff fantastic from front desk to cleaning staff! but really appreciated the breakfast as it was quite extensive and tasty. on edge of tourist area but still quite walkable once you realize Lisbon has only 2 directions, up and down and cope. Delta coffee machine in room, though first 2 pods should be free daily Fully recommend!

I needed a hotel in the Estrela district. This one was perfect. A spacious and comfortable suite. Excellent personal attention from the staff. Good breakfast. Clean and spotless. A boutique feel but with the comfort of a large 5 star. I had an excellent stay and would certainly return!

We are not the typical tourist in that this is our third visit to Lisbon. Our first visit was all too brief and we stayed at a hotel in the heart of the city. The room was very small and being in the old town the area was full of tourist. Our second visit was longer but here again we did not entirely enjoy that hotel either. Nevertheless we walked everywhere to get to know the city well. We chanced on Hotel Estrela on our last visit as we had friends living in the immediately adjacent neighborhood of Campo D’Ourique.

We like this hotel because it is small and intimate with 19 very spacious rooms and suites. It is quiet and removed from the hustle and bustle of the old town. The hotel was originally a Palace but it has been totally renovated so the rooms and restaurant are thoroughly modern. The rooms on the top floor have great views and one can see the river but we did not like the see through bathroom. As these rooms command a premium we were perfectly happy with our room one floor below which overlook the garden. Beds were very comfortable. The secluded walled in garden is another plus of the hotel. A great place to do morning exercise on the adjoining terrace. Hotel Estrela is within 40 minutes maximum walking distance to most tourist sites with the exception of Alfama (one visit to Alfama was enough for us). There is the Rato subway station, not quite ten minutes away. The taxi’s are not expensive so for those averse to walking this is a good alternative. The taxi’s from the airport are dishonest but we never had a problem with taxi’s in Lisbon and the taxi’s from the Lisbon train station. The preferred mode of transport for Lisboetas is the Uber. Be warned Lisbon is hilly.

There are many local restaurants catering to the residents of Campo d’Ourique as well as restaurants down the hill. The Sea-me seafood restaurant in the old town we liked especially but the hotel has an excellent restaurant. It’s lunch menu of the day represents very good value. We had the same buffet breakfast for one month. While the selection is limited we never tired of it’s high quality. We liked the fresh fruit and the fresh juice although we did not care for the scrambled eggs. The hotel should make this with fresh eggs or cook to order. The hotel trains students and in the restaurant we found António,Tiago and Andrea very attentive and personable; no doubt to set a good example for the students. This was similarly true in housekeeping where Sophia and Patricia were exemplary in their work. The students were very polite but their work varied and all worked slowly. The reception staff were good. The star though was the Hotel Manager, Isabel who seemed to do everything. From greeting guests, planning and marketing special events, supervising renovations to assisting in cleaning the windows. Isabel is very much hands on and was always helpful.

Apart from the eggs two points to note. It would be nice to have two room keys and more often then not we had to sign in to get internet access. This was a nuisance.

Highly recommend this hotel for being close but removed from the main tourist sites. Excellent rooms and the tranquillity.

We stayed one short night at Hotel da Estrela. We can highly recommend it.

Fun design - not one of the standard, cookie-cutter, bland hotels. Loved the architecture. Very helpful staff at reception (including helping bring the luggage down - something that another TA complained about ... very helpful in our case) and at breakfast.

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood. We had a rental car and it was very easy (and necessary) to use their garage.

It’s not a perfect place. But I’ve been traveling extensively, staying in about 60-100 hotels per year. When reading some of the critical comments on TA about Hotel da Estrela, I can’t help but recommend to ignore them. The people who criticize small things around the bathroom design seem to be very infrequent travelers, and I have to wonder how “perfect” their own home is that they complain about minor things while on vacation.

Enjoy your stay at Da Estrela!!

If you use a non Portuguese Mobile phone (Non Portuguese SIM card) you can book via Uber it's super cheap and very safe (more efficient than the City taxi). It will cost 20% to 30% cheaper than a regular cab. You can also get a free free if you use the following code when registering your account with this UBER promo code: mikem9057ue
