This hotel has a great location. It is well-maintained and safe, the staff is nice and friendly. The furniture in the room is old-fashioned but it's kind of attractive. The beds are comfortable, the shower is clean. The breakfast is basic, but quite enough. They provide luggage drop-off before the check-in and lend a hair-dryer. Overall, the hotel is great,...

I stayed 4 nights at the Insulana while in Lisbon, solo female traveler in late 50's.I chose this hotel based on its fantastic location (just off Rua Augusta) which is as dead center as you can get ,plus its budget price and of course based on reviews here. I was very happy with my stay there. Yes the rooms are basic...

Here's a very cozy, small B&B with a friendly local staff. great location, close to Alfama and Baixa and main city shore. Owned by family, very kind people. Bacic breakfast though. Old fashioned lift makes an atmosphere! Worth tryin!

Felt like I was back in about 1970. Everything "as new" from that time. Location perfect and the staff nice. Clean and comfortable. My one complaint is the thin walls, thus othr guests started complaining when I turned on the TV (which by the way looked as if from early seventies). And wow! I could open the window! Hope to...

A very nice place to stay, it has a perfect tourist location and feels very safe. The interior is quite old but clean and nice. They serve delicious coffee and every morning, for breakfast, you'll get rolls and jam. The reception is extremelly nice and helpful. Price is very attractive.

Yes. The location is great. That is where it ends. We stayed here thinking it was a "boutique" hotel. It is not. It is run down and dirty. The savings was not worth it. I was afraid to touch anything in the room.

The location is the only thing this place has going for it unfortunately. The only downer on my visit to Lisbon was this place. All I ask for a B&B is somewhere to crash and a good breakfast. The bed was fine, the breakfast however... Terrible 2 bread rolls and tea or coffee... oh and not forgetting the generous addition...

I stayed for 9 nights in Oct 2016. The hotel has an excellent safe / lockbox set-up. Near the reception desk there is a group of heavy-duty boxes and the client is given the only key to a box. The room was exactly what I want in budget accommodation. (I don't care about decor.) It was clean and the maid...

The location of this hotel is excellent. The rooms are small, outdated and not very well kept, but clean and perfectly functional. The bathroom was fine. There is someone at reception 24/7 so you always feel safe. Breakfast was quite bad, not going to lie - bread, butter and jam and terrible coffee. But all in all, good value for...

Stayed here at the end of June for four days and had a great stay. The staff were very friendly and spoke English very well. The location was perfect just off of the Rua Augusta and a three minute walk to the Praca do Comercio and Rossio train station. The rooms are old as everyone else has stated but were...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
