Hotel Portugal is centrally positioned near Praca da Figueira, ten minutes walk from the waterfront and Rossio station and close to buses and trams. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, good breakfast, nice cellar bar, comfortable bedroom.

This hotel was less than it promised. Our room was not ready on arrival, which was after the official check in time. We were given a drink while we waited. The room was as per the photographs. There are no complimentary tea or coffee facilities. On the first day we were given a bottle of water, some welcome cakes and...

We booked for a two night visit prior to travelling to the Algarve. The staff upgraded our room without us asking and made us very welcome from the moment we arrived. We rebooked for our return to Lisbon and the second visit exceeded the first. The location could not be better if you plan on site seeing. All the city...

The pros are comfortable hotel on centre of Lisbon, just on historic centre so you just need to go out and you're there, outstanding service from most hotel personnel, good rooms renewed and with style. Decent breakfast buffet. Very comfortable bed. Loved the bath stuff from Rituals brand. The cons are you have to choose between noise or bad view...

The location of this hotel is excellent as it is within walking distance to the key sights and also near the Tram 28 pick up point. There are restaurants and shops within walking distance as well. Was given the 2nd floor. Although there is no view, the room itself is very clean and comes with a comfortable bed, rain shower...

We had a really pleasant couple of nights here and it was an ideal location from which to go and explore Lisbon. The staff were really pleasant and helpful answering all our questions and looking after us generally. The only thing I could say on the downside was the rumble of the Metro trains passing underneath, but there's nothing the...

We arrived at the hotel and we were greeted by the amazing front of house staff. We were early for our check in, so we left our luggage and after some helpful local attraction tips we went off for the day. On our arrival back at the hotel, we enquired about getting an upgrade and we were told that they...

We stayed 2 nights, great location a block away from the city tour bus stop. Excellent service, staff very well trained, they gave us good tips and suggestions for nice restaurants and places to visit. Parking included at Hotel Mundial, narrow space but high and wide enough for an overaized van. Delicious buffet breakfast included. The only thing is that...

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend for three nights It was beautiful - surprised it's not five star Such value for money - they upgraded us to the best room on the third floor. I made sure I put in a request after booking the hotel that they give us a quiet room where you cannot hear the...

What a wonderful find this was - a beautiful hotel on a quiet side street, close to everything; restaurants, shops, markets, subway and trains (the Rossio Station is very close by). The room was very comfortable, clean and well appointed. The service was consistently excellent. We ate our breakfast (lots of choice) each morning on the quiet, relaxing patio in...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
