Warning signs should ring up, old part of town, great location, sea view, near the castle, tourist area but there is no need to worry this little place is great. Not an elegant hotel by modern standards but this is an old building. Rooms are arty, beds comfortable, air con works and isn't noisy, shower more than functioning, has a...

As one who travels extensively, I would consider myself a 'comfortable, but not wealthy American' who appreciates the modern, contemporary styling of the finer Hiltons, Marriotts, Westin properties, and upscale boutique hotels. The first hotel I booked in Lisbon was the Avenida Palace, which is exquisitely decorated and has a feel of luxury and history. However... After reading some TripAdvisor...

We stopped on our way down from the castle for a glass of wine and some tapas. The service was very nice, the view is fantastic and the food was really tasty. Highly recommended, even if it was just for a quick stay at the terrace.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Lisbon for less than 24hrs. We were in town just for a concert but wanted to do some sightseeing beforehand. We had to carry our luggage from the metro station to the hotel, and if you know Lisbon, you know that is easier said than done. The second we walked in to the hotel...

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Great views from room and balcony. Downsides are the parking, £20 a day. Bathroom was very small. Staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. Special mention to 'mo mo' excellent service.

The hotel is quite small boutique hotel. Is an old building that bought and change it to a hotel. The room are spacious, and the view are great. The breakfast is only a so-so. At night is very quite since the neighborhood and all the guest ar sleeping but at 8 am the noise start. From our room we can...

The view from the terrace is so beautiful !! And everyone in this hotel was so helpful and kind. It's very near (within steps of) the Castle, and pretty hear the Cathedral, too. A wonderful way to enjoy the Alfama district in Lisbon!

Good welcome , balcony area with a view over the roof tops towards the river, located just below the castle. Our room was spacious, huge bed huge, could have had landing lights up the middle as a runway for Lisbon Airport. Staff were charming, breakfast good, continental buffet. All in all would happily go back, and good wi fi.

I was only stay in the cafe but not at the hotel. the cafe is perfect. modern, unlike most cafes in Lisbon which are antique. It has a beautiful garden with a view of the entire Lisbon. Coffee was perfect and the service excellent. congratulations

We stayed at Solar dos Mouros for a long weekend and our stay could not have been better. The staff were fantastic and really made us feel warm and welcome. We stayed in a RIver View Room and it fit the bill perfectly. Lovely African art work and books in the room . It was immaculately clean. We ate locally...

Dear Eyeonthetarget, We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay with us. The castle hill is indeed one of the biggest and tallest in Lisbon, however our friendly mayor built a couple of public lifts to aid people with the climb. As you pointed out, it's always a good idea to contact the hotel beforehand and ask for taxi instructions, we also...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
