Hotel Mundial strikes a chord with its central location and cleanliness, with travelers frequently commending the spotless rooms and tidy common areas. While the vibrant nightlife is a draw, some guests have called out the disruptive noise that can sometimes accompany it. The modern interiors and inviting bars, along with a rooftop bar boasting breathtaking views, are highlights, although service can be a hit or miss. Guests have mixed opinions on the value, acknowledging the reasonable room prices but pointing out the costliness of drinks.

On arrival, check-in was straightforward, and Thomas was very friendly and helpful. There was a slight delay for our room, to which we had complementary drinks for the inconvenience Our room was on the 5th floor, room 506, overlooking the court yard. It was clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable. There was a drinks bar, but this wasn't free. The bath / shower could be a little slippery and was easy to use, shampoo, shower jel, and hand soap and towels provided. The main bar was lovely, and the rooftop had lovely views of the city. The breakfast buffet was continental, and a wide choice to choose from the only downfall was that the bacon was slightly overcooked on most days. The only disappointment I had found was that there was no tea, coffee supplied, but a kettle and cups was?.

The hotel has a great location. It was easy to walk to the major sights in Lisbon and only a few blocks to the Rossi train station for a quick ride to Sintra. We stayed in a triple room which was set up with 3 twin beds, 2 of which were pushed together as a king and one was separate in an alcove but still within the main room. We had a great view of Saint George Castle from our room. The room was clean and well maintained. The area immediately surrounding the hotel had wonderful Indian/Asian restaurants. We felt safe walking around in the evening. The shower in our room was a problem. The drain cleared very slowly with the water backing up significantly. We asked for maintenance to come clear the drain but the person who came up did not fix the problem. The tub was also very slippery and had a large step to get in. I think it would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. We had been looking forward to trying the roof top bar during our stay, but it was closed for the 4-day length of our stay because of intermittent rain and cool weather.

The Mundial Hotel is a large hotel central to the main attractions of Lisbon. All the staff we encountered were warm, friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic and clean. Our only disappointment was the fact that there was a kettle in the room but no, tea, coffee, milk or even a spoon. We bought tea and milk at the shop next door but we just found it odd that they would supply a kettle but nothing else. The breakfast area had a good selection of cooked and continental breakfasts. It was always busy but the staff worked quickly to clear the tables to make sure no one was waiting. We drank in the lobby bar, all the staff were brilliant and the drinks were not badly priced for a hotel bar. We only drank in the rooftop bar once as one evening it was closed and the other days it was far too cold to sit on the roof but the views are fabulous and again the staff were attentive and helpful. The square where the hotel is based is very run down and if I’m honest felt slightly unsafe but during the day Tram 28 begins its tourist route from here and if you come out do the hotel and turn left you’re literally in the main square and near the main streets. We just avoided the square over the road! There is a little store next door and plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. Great location.

This hotel is in the perfect location, near to the metro stations, tourist buses, trams and restaurants. There is even a supermarket nearby. Our room was spacious and very clean. The buffet breakfast had a wide selection of dishes and the coffee from the machine was excellent! Sadly, the weather prevented us from trying the rooftop bar ( closed due to rain and high wind) but the smaller bar was open to give a nice view of the castle. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. The one downside to this hotel is the noise coming from the other rooms and corridors. It is not soundproofed.

Wes stayed at the Mundial for 2 nights as part of an escorted tour. Excellent central city location, adjacent to the Martim Moniz metro station, across the square from tram 28, easy walking distance to many of the main squares. The room was spacious, clean and modern. The front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooftop bar was special at night with the lights of the castle above. Steet noise and hallway noise is unavoidable so just be prepared for that.

We have been there many times and we will certainly go back. The staff has always been really helpful. As my husband has mobility problems, they always try to give us the best service. The last time we were there, in January, the first floor (where we asked to stay) was apparently being done and the heating in some rooms was not working properly. After a lot of hassle, they upgraded us to a big room in another floor and tried to solve all the problems we had. The manager, Odette and Vanessa were particularly good. Negative facts: They now charge you for the car, which didn't happen before, and the TV set doesn't accept any external wires or pen drive so you can't watch your own stuff. Also, they should sort out the heating in the rooms once and for all. S. Moreno, Spain

We stayed for seven nights. We would not stay again. The good: central to most major Lisbon sights. Rooms are large and clean. The rooftop and lobby bars are a nice place to gather. The bad: the rooms are not quiet. Be prepared to listen to the drunken songs of the homeless folks outside each night, accompanied by a Stomp-like soundtrack of clinking bottles and trash cans. The breakfast, while having sufficient options, is always crowded with large tour groups. It was not a pleasant way to begin the day. We paid for an early check-in, but the front desk assumed we hadn't and was somewhat rude about it. The ugly: our shower (room 728) was not safe. It was difficult to get in and out of and incredibly slippery. Each member of my family slipped in there; and on our final night, I lost my footing getting out. I hit my face on both sides, cut my arm open and have bruises all over my body. The hotel did help us call EMS, but then tried to charge us for the call. This was a truly dangerous situation, and I anticipate others may have had the same experience. When we checked out, the front desk was not very apologetic or concerned.

Great Hotel, excellent position . Rooms were very large beds comfortable, shower and bath were clean and tidy . Towels were replaced when needed. No tea and coffee facilities in the room . Breakfast provided so much choice as it was only advertised as a continental breakfast . Checking staff were really helpful when we asked for help with restaurant choices. Bar area downstairs could have had some music in the background. Drinks were very tasty and made to perfection. Shame the weather was awful to be able to use the rooftop bar . The view would have been amazing. Highly recommend.

I cannot rate this hotel more highly, from the moment the door man greeted us to the end of our weeks holiday was perfect. The first night I didn’t sleep to well as I have chronic arthritis, we asked reception the next morning if they had any mattress toppers and they went above and beyond by putting two toppers so I would be comfortable which for the rest of our stay I slept really well. The chamber maids cleaned our room every day as if it was the first…. At breakfast the first morning I asked the young waiter if they did poached eggs? Unfortunately they didn’t which was not a problem but 10 minutes later the young waiter (I wish I had gotten his name) came out of the kitchen with two perfectly poached eggs…….what wonderful service. The reception staff knew us by name and our room number (801) nothing and I mean nothing was to much trouble even the car park attendant knew my husbands name. On our last morning at breakfast (we was leaving the next morning well before breakfast 3am to catch our flight) the staff wished by husband a happy birthday !!!!!!!!!! How ever did they know. When we came back to the hotel that evening ready to pack our cases for the early departure to find a bottle of bubbly on ice with chocolate’s and a note wishing my husband a happy birthday. We are overwhelmed with the staff and I sincerely hope the hotel manager reads this review because his staff are a credit to the Hotel Mundial and as the saying goes “Look after your staff and they will look after your business” A huge THANK YOU to ALL the staff for making our stay perfect in every way Carlos and Renée Dos Santos
