Some people have given this place bad reviews but I thought it was fantastic. My room was clean, smart and not in any way shabby, I have no idea where some of the others writing reviews stayed but 523 was great. The pool was lovely though I didn't go in it once, much cooler weather than i'd hoped! I didnt...

This hotel is in a great location, perfect for a weekend break in Lisbon. The roof terrace offers amazing views, although we found it constantly busy with limited seating due to the restricted space available. There is also a bar on the terrace although the service was a little slow. Our room/apartment was fine, but was dated and needed some...

We have just returned from a 5 night stay here and things are just as they were the previous six times we stayed. That is excellent! True there are the small niggles but tell me a hotel that dosent have them. We have stayed in a £350 a night hotel in Brussels and it was a nightmare. So all things...

They call this a 4 star????? Filthy, poorly taken care of, surly front desk staff. Checked in - went to the room and immediately left. No way was I sleeping in that hotel, in that bed. They wouldn't give us a refund since we booked through expedia. However, I would rather lose my money than stay in that place! Totally...

I thought this hotel was perfect, location is great, walking distance to all the bars, restuarants, and seconds walk to the Metro, which in 4 stops takes you into Corte Anglese! The staff were really nice, the rooms spacious, clean, with a kitchenette, which we didn't use. The best thing about the hotel is the roof terrace, with the pool,...

I stayed at the VIP Eden for 10 nights with a friend. We rented the one-bedroom apartment, which sleeps up to 4 people. The apartment was big, but awkwardly laid out (lots of space wasted by hallways and weird angles). The kitchenette was nice, including a small dishwasher, and well-supplied with kitchen appliances and utensils. We had an apartment on...

We chose lucky on the flight in and were treated to a superb low-level approach right over the Alfalma and, looking back at the photos, the hotel can clearly be seen - it's that distinctive. The building itself is a gorgoeus old theatre which has been strangely refurbished and now contains the hotel, what looked like a dole office and...

My wife and I stayed at the VIP Eden for 3 days on a leisure mini-break. We selected it based on recommendations found on web-pages such as this. True it is in an excellent position near shops, metro and the (being) refurbished railway terminus. It was also good value (78E/night), but it was NOT 4 star: Public areas (reception and...

My family just spent 3 nights at this hotel which I chose based on reviews on this board as it sounded ideal for our needs. We were a couple travelling with our teenage son and liked the idea of an aparthotel with a separate room for our son to sleep in, the central location also sounded good. We caught the...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
